Quick question OP: do you even play the game or are you just getting your material from these ridiculously troll-infested forums? Sorry if I'm wrong, but it just seems like you're an outsider regurgitating the same crap that everyone else has for weeks now... same old wild ranting that'll plague the communities of every MMORPG coming out.
Your predictions and claims are ridiculous. AOC is still very big in europe and despite everything, still very big in NA, and it'll most probably continue to be until the Xbox version is released, even after all the upcoming MMO's have come out. I myself am taking a break from the game and MMO's in general, and I do know what you're talking about with the "I'm quitting" trend of threads, but the servers are still well populated--at least the PVP and RPPVP ones, when I was playing. I haven't played on the PVE ones but the communities seem very active, and alot of my friends still playing say their servers are very well populated.
I enjoyed the game alot during my free month, but I decided to take a break from it for awhile. I was dissapointed by the missing content, but there was enough there to keep me happy. And I was in a guild with over 100 daily-active members in an alliance of guilds each with the same amount of players who are still having fun.
AOC is not an "epic fail", sorry. They've made enough and they will maintain enough subs to keep the dev teams working on overdrive to make due on all the promised content for the PC players, and then make the expansion into the console market. AOC will not drop down to 50k subs, they won't be working with a skeleton crew and turn into another TR.
Move along.
Waiting for Fallen Earth, World of Darkness, Old Republic, FFXIV
I don't think AoC is that bad off, however, it would have benefitted greatly from a 6 month delay.
If you are not going to release with the polish and at least a good fraction of the content WoW has you are wasting your time and money. People are not going to pay to be bored or be bug ridden when they can pay the same price and play something polished with loads of content. It may have been ok to release unfinished games 7-10 years ago, but that is a thing of the past now.
I gave Conan a second month of subscription but it seems they are updating less which with their errors that isn't a good sign to me. I log on now and the guild I am a part of that had quite a few active members is now barren. So that means quite a few quit from there alone and these are veteran gamers. I am not sure where they get their numbers but the second month I have seen almost no one in the leveling zones where as the first month it never happend. I enjoyed the game the first 50 levels but it is getting very boring and unenjoyable. This being said I would tend to agree with OP. I will just wait to see if they get their act together and decide if I rejoin then. I honestly hope they succeed I just don't have the patience to pay someone to learn how to fix their product.
The absolutely ONLY reason I am still occassionaly playing AoC is because my guild is still playing it as their game of choice and I love my guild. Otherwise I would uninstall this POS from my pc immediately.
Even though my guild is still playing, I have noticed many of my guild mates not playing for various reasons. I imagine the main reason many are not playing is because the game is an unfulfilling mess.
Funcom, the company behind the new MMORPG, Age of Conan, has issued a press release stating that more than 700,000 players have created accounts for the game."
On the front page for AoC... Almost a million, you are completely wrong.

This is exactly what I anticipated when I played the AOC beta. They would have strong sales at release, but be unable to keep players in the long run.
My impressions from playing AOC at beta was that it isn't anything new or special at all. The combat system is in fact pretty much the same as in other mmo's (made just so they could market the game for consoles). I don't see any reason to play AOC over wow, for instance. It might have good looking graphics, but in my book that doesn't make a great game.
Never saw a company talk about shipped copies before. It's meaningless. What peoples want to know is how much subs the game have. Funcom is playing with numbers in hope of luring more peoples in.
As much as i hate AOC i won t say it s an epic fail unless you expected the game to have 2 mill subs. I personally think the game failed to deliver alot of things and to me is flat out boring. If AOC get thigns fixed in 6 months it won t really matter IMO, too many things coming out to take away from it. I still do think it did ok but overall it failed but not in a epic scale.

Not on a epic scale, yet. Once WAR is released and (if) it pwns (made by mythic is should) then AoC will be buried alive. If not from WAR then from the next best MMO. Serves the developer right for posting a faggy picture of himself for everyone to look at on the MMO homepage. If i saw im IRL i would rob his ass for my money back. And compensation for my wasted time.
Hype gets people into trouble. Thank funcom for accelerating our nationwide recession.
Hardly a failure, they just brought the game out way before it was ready, it is quite obvious on the lack of content for later levels and all the missing things like itemization.
But it is certainly not the blockbuster they try to portray it as.
Another niche game like lord of the rings, nothing more, nothing less.
If you still enjoy the game, have fun, if not time to move on to something else.
AoC would never have been considered as a failure if the devs didn't talk so much smack about other games, especially WoW.
Look at LOTRO, or EQII, those games will probably have less subscribers than AoC, but will never be seen as failures because the people running those games have been humble from the beggining.

How many people even know a single word that has come from a funcom devs mouth ? Wow is the reason no game becomes a huge blockbuster anymore, That in no way means those games fail . It just shows WOW is the king of MMO's. It shines in the very area most important to an MMO's success. Player retention , The proof is in the fact that no other game is able to draw that rooted playerbase's attention away. Those few who quit wow are of no importance unless it's an astounding amount 1mil+ which won't happen until Blizzard shakes the boat. And how likely is that?

the more i see people posting about how much CONan failed and how funCON sucks the more i smile.
this isn't just about mmo games anymore my friends this is about gaming as a whole. for too long gamers everywhere have let those making the games come out with games like CONan in the state that it is in.
how many bugged out games do you remember coming out in the last year? most i remember as being buggy and not fun not putting anything new into the game. and this is not only with pc games.
look at the xbox 360 the system doesn't work and needs to be sent in to be fixed every 3 months or so. look at how many games have come out on the 360 that micro$oft claims are great but they offer nothing new and are boring. halo 3 and mass effect come to mind. halo 3 offered nothing new and played like halo 2 and mass effect was boring and ugly and used a bad combat system.
the point is we as gamers must now tell those making the games that we are sick of games coming out in this state. i said it when $OE stole the pre-cu from us and turned swg into the nge. all they are doing is telling other devs that it is ok to come out with something that doesn't work and if the player base doesn't like it insult and ban those that tell $OE we don't want this.
you fanbois now can do 2 things. you can help those of us who are fighting for change and to making gaming fun and good again. or you can keep paying funCON for CONan and other games that don't work and that suck.
who in his right mind would join a angry troll demanding his precious pre-cu VIRTUAL world?
its funny to see that everyone who doesnt mark the game as epic fail is being flagged as a fanboi instantly, pretty active hater community here
yea the game really seems epic fail when i go to a mate where aoc is being played and where most servers are full, u think im making this up go check it out yourself
well all the haters post all surveys/patchnotes/news from aoc so i guess they can start aoc up themselves

You believe that BS? Jeez, wanna buy some swampland? I recall, before I quit, the patch that came when they changed to once a week - it was so fouled up it required an emergency 5 hour downtime the next day to fix it - so much for less patches to test better. AoC = Vanguard II, plain and simple.

The gamecard sales , which are the biggest indicator of subscriptions in this its first full paid month ( since Funcom is not releasing actual sub numbers) currently are at #418 on Amazons best seller list, down 158 spots in about 2 weeks, and down 16 since yesterday.
Only time will tell if AOC is an EPIC FAILURE. I dislike the game because FUNCOM lied to me. Some people like the game, others dislike it. I hope Dev teams for future games learn to be 100% honest and put out what they promise when they promise. Paying for a game still in beta in my view is wrong.
