I found this on one of the EQ2 sites: EverQuest II aims to be a well balanced game in almost every aspect. This includes curbing extreme power leveling and especially ways to exploit the game illegally. Two major ways they intend to do this is through the closed-combat system and item level restrictions.
The closed-combat system essentially allows you to fight monsters without interruption from outside players. It also aims to reduce kill stealers and ninja looters. This system can be a good thing and a bad thing. I'll let you point out the positive and negative aspects.
Item level restrictions put a cap on how high or low you can equip a particular piece of equipment. You will be able to equip anything below your level, although the effectiveness will decrease the farther the base level of the item gets from your experience level. For the upper range you will be able to equip anything up to five levels higher than you.
The question I bring about in this weeks TotW is this:
How do you intend to support your alternate characters as well as guild member characters with these restrictions? Will guilds play a bigger role because of these elements?"

I think the closed-combat system is very very good. At least you're not going to see a Lineage ][ style of gameplay.
Also, I welcome the level restrictions on the mmorpg. Frankly, the majority of all the mmorpgs I currently play has these rstrictions. Why could a lvl 4 Mage put on a lvl 40 cloak?
So, in my eyes, good job to the DEVs on this development. For me, I have no desire for alternate characters so I really dont know.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
If they make a fame system that only punish the powerlevellers and those that just want freebies (Freebie superequipment and freebie PLing with help of some highlevel) And try to make it more fun for those that actually PLAY the game...
Then I salute them. Good work! Hopefully the beggars can go to another game now and scream for help for four weeks, then sit and brag how big they are and how fast it went. And us normal people can enjoy the game without their constant whine/empty bragging.
Devs are learning.. Now its up to the players to use the noodle as well.

wow you cant heal anyopne unless grouped, or is it just while they are fighting.
anyways good job soe, maybe they got rid of powergaming finally. lvl 50+ newbs on eq that didnt know how to play thier character got pretty lame.
The only way a healer can heal you outside of the group is if its in a raid type encounter.
Raid type encounters in EQ2 where more than 6 people are required, if allowable by the encounter players are allowed to form a raid of upto a set amount of people stated by that encounter. Note that the actual game limits any encounter of upto a max of 24 players.
Obviously your not going to want to PL from raid type encounters because the quantity of XP-over-time will be crap, slow.
You can only initiate raid formation if the encounter allow's it. The way i understand/read you can do this is by going upto the entrance of an encounter zone/area or mob, clicking on it and it apparantly show's you how many people are required or allowed to participate - as a raid.

They wont be able to do that, playing each character will be much more involved than in EQ. There will be too much to keep up with for one person. If a person wants a buffbot, they will have to group with the buffbot because you cant buff people outside of the group. That means that you cant get high level buffs without actually being grouped with the high lvl, which would kill your xp. This makes me happy because in DAoC my druid was useless at high levels because every f'n body had a lvl 50 druid bot following them around, it was impossible to get a group. You could still have a tank/healer group run by one person, but it would not be very efficient. I think EQ2 has done a great job with discouraging powerleveling, even if it isnt entirely bullet-proof, its pretty close.
Some of the new games already have these in place, *Points to City of Heros*, I really don't think that this will have a big impact on game play. I've played L2 and the system they had in place opened up a door for a lot of wrong doings that players could do on each other.

You've got to be shittin' me?! Can't heal or buff people not in youor raid/group. That's got to be the stupidest thing they've ever come up with. That's even worse than staring at the bloody spellbook for 35 levels.
I can understand them wanting to stop powergamers, or whatever, but why give everyone else the shaft at the same time? I don't see this system staying around, as it will cause more problems in the long run than it will fix. Say you get jumped by a mob, and get beat up and poisoned, while traveling from A to B. Sorry, you're gonna die, unless you can find a that healer to leave his group to heal you. No more being nice, and doing runby heals/buffs, etc.
While I don't feel the devs should cater to the whims of powergamers, they're just as foolish for catering to every whiney little shit that has a hissy fit because they can't or won't put the same effort into the game as the powergamers, but expect the same returns.
