This is just my personal opinion, based upon involvement as a player and a GM in MMOGs over the last fifteen years... I think them telling us that the cities and the classes aren't ready was excellent communication. I also think that launching without this content, that they have been touting and talking about (along with race/faction balance) for so long, will truly hurt the game in a big way. It won't destroy WAR, but it will absolutely drag all the AoC negativity over here 10x more than it was before. And it will make players that were believers in Mythic and WAR start to question their beliefs. Horrible decision on Mythic's part, in my opinion. Push it back and do it right the FIRST time, while you still can. If you don't, you "released early" when content wasn't finished and the game wasn't ready. That's definitely a Funcom-style move.
and if they push back it will cause even more havok amongst the community. Its been pushed back too much already..
the game doesnt actually *need* these things to be a fully functional game - I hope they have everything else polished. Provided it is a polished game despite these cutbacks, it is not going the funcom route - and if you feel the game really needs the extra classes and cities, then I suppose you wait before purchasing. Theyre being open and honest.
Personally, I wouldnt have dropped the classes though.. just the cities.
give me 1 example of a pushback that ruined a mmo (that was later released)!! Just one..
While you may WANT it to release now a pushback is only healthy. The more pushback the more content you can polish and fit in..
I on the other hand can give you numerous examples of too early releases... Pirates what?? Tabula huh?
While I respect Mythic for the early info, I personally believe it would be better to push WAR into 2009 then drop Four cities and classes. I want WAR to succeed, believe me i do. I'm sorry but i wont be subbing until all 6 cities are functional and four dropped classes are back in. If it takes till Christmas 2009 so be it. I know you guys are dying to play the game but seriously i would rather it stay in beta longer so we get all the content.

I laughed a little at your comment about the game not needing these things to be fully functional. It obviously will NOT be fully functional. It will release with JUST enough stuff to function my friend. Just enough to technically still fulfill its ulterior purpose.
People are going to play and realize how bare bones it really is. They need to push back the game.

No, not more delays.. providing the game itself is polished I do not mind losing 4 cities and 4 classes.
Why dont you pretend the game has not released when it does release and just wait until the content is added later before purchasing the product?
some of you guys make me laugh...seriously they dropped 2 classes per realm and 4 of the 6 cities. its not game breaking by any means. We get 1 city each with double the content of what they originally planned for each city. Also with one major city it will make finding that tank or dps character that much easier.

push back is not needed. their still going to make a very good game and what them great is they were up front about everything. but i see expansion and knowing them some of them will be free which will be nice. honestly . 2 major citys to start is cool. maybe players will play a major part is the other 4 citys being built. the 4 classes being lost is sort of lame but mark said they will work on them post launch which is better then nothing more then likely ea might be pushing them to meet the deadline which sucks but they like well work on the stuff we can and add later hopefully they give us hardcore fan something for the lost. like really cool citys which work flawless i mean every mmo has bugs but from what i heard is the game is looking good and working good in beta they really pushing the tester to bug hunt and offer rewards into game for finding bugs. so at least their putting their best foot forward. amen. beside more content which more to be added. it's a huge win it means they spend even more time on the citys and release them with little or no bugs at all which is a lot better.

How exactly did you come to that conclusion?
If anything Mythic are doing the opposite.
They relised releasing the game with all the classes and cities would proberly be a bad thing to do and cause many problems just like AoCs problems so they had two choices either push back the release date or cut the content and release the game soon.
I think they made a good decision, this way the game will still be WAR and you will still be able to do everything at release bar a few class choices and city choices, Mythic won't be overwhelmed as much and the players can test the content. It may sound pretty sucky due to the fact it sounds like a new beta but it's a lot better than having a completely broken game at launch.
EDIT: To clarify on my point, I do not support decisions like this usually, I just think this is the best choice for Mythic as I don't think they are up to the task of dealing with all the content at once.
Currently Playing: Everything but MMORPGs Cancelled: L2, FFXI, VSoH, LotRO, WAR, WoW Looking Forward To: SW:TOR
I can't help but feel they are not going to push back due to AoC being a big flop. If AoC was any good you would see WAR pushing back.
The longer they wait the longer it gives Funcon to fix AoC.
WAR pushing back 1 more year would be fine with me. The city's dont bother me much. But droping the class is a bit much.
honestly if they could push back it i lay u 10 to 1 they would so they could add the content but it's EA having the final say so their in bind to put out a well made game so overall their making the right choice.
I would personally prefer to see a 3-6 month delay and have all the careers than to have the game "on time". The capital cities I could care less about, to be honest. Two are enough and the fighting will be more intsense now. Perhaps less strategic, though.
Bear in mind, I am a KotBS-lover, through and through, so maybe if my favourite career was not cut I'd be singing a different tune. For all you that still get your favourite career, I envy you.
Now I am stuck either playing a Warrior Priest or, ugh, a Swordmaster.
I first decided on being a KotBS like this, prioritizing from most important to least:
I want to be Order (12 careers remain).
I do not want to be short and fat (8 careers remain).
I do not want to use pets of any sort (6 careers remain).
I do not want to be ranged (3 careers remain).
I do not want to be a High Elf (2 careers remain).
I do not want to be a healer (1 career remains - KotBS).
So, going backwards from that end point, which landed on a career I found visually appealing and just plain awesome, leads me back to Warrior Priest and Swordmaster, as they were two of the last careers I eliminated. It is a shame I now have to play a game i have watched for a couple years as a career I do not really want to be.
Push back is not an option now with WoTLK being relased soon. If they are doing this is because they know WoTLK is going to be quite good, as they knew AoC would fail (that why they pushed back then).
They have made a big mistake by not planning ahead the workload of building 6 cities. I imagine many people will prefer to wait until the game is complete, and since most have WOW, probably play it and buy the expansion and get hooked. The good side is that in 2-3 months they will get bored again and in that time WAR will be finished... hopefully.
If they can afford to, they should delay release as they will not really lose anything for doing so. At worst they will get a bit of flaming as usual, but they are getting that anyway for releasing.
But they are not ignorant to this so their decision must have been made because, they are either out of funds and being forced to or they feel that even with extra time they will not be putting the content in anyway.
If the latter is the reason then you can pretty much eliminate that content being added anywhere near the release date. So the question you have to ask yourself is, will that missing content make the game unplayable for you?
Personally I will base my decision on whether the missing content have an impact on the mechanics of the RvR because that is my reason for playing.

Ok, so we just learned that WAR will be incomplete. Let’s say that Mythic will need something like a year (maybe more) in order to balance, fix and complete WAR. You know what… during that time everyone will expect another new promising MMO, not a patch for WAR! Plz if you can afford it, push WAR into 2009! I don’t want to experience that AoC-thing again.
Honestly, and I am selfish in saying this cause my target classes are still in, I do not care much for the classes but for the cities.
But let's start from the classes. So there are only 2 tanks left per side, one is caster specific and the other is presumably physical focused, so there isn't that much of a problem.
Losing the choppa, however, means that if you want to play an Orc, you play a Black orc, period. I would advise them to lose the racial restriction on shamans and let them be orc or goblin.
As for the cities, now we understand why we saw extensive footage of Altdorf and the inevitable City and not much of the others. Still, losing 4 cities beg the question "what happen to the Tier 4 of those races?"
What is the reason to fight in the whole tier 4 of the elves if you cannot get to siege the Black Ark? None? well, maybe there is a bit.... I suppose fortresses are still in and they still can be claimed by guilds, so if you need an extra fortress you need to push the front until you can fight it over that enemy fortress.
Does not sound like much though, so we can already think that we lost a good 2 Tier 4 areas of content, at least as much as RvR is concerned. The PvE part is supposed to be small in those areas anyhow (from what they said originally, dunno if that is still the case).
In addition it remove a lot of flavor from the other races. So dwarves and elves will have to come to Altdorf and won't see their cities until later on eh? So why not cut off the whole races until they are ready eh?
what is the point of levelling up a dwarf in the dwarven areas if the Tier 4 does not work? I would move to the empire area and suddenly the game is much smaller.
These are my concern, the loss of cities will break the regional RvR balance as many people will not see a purpose in fighting in the dwarf-greenskins and the elven areas.
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
If the only things out of Tier four are the capital cities themselves, this might not change Tier four that much for day-to-day pvp. In DAOC there was constant taking of keeps in the frontiers because it was beneficial for guilds to have them, the goal of this activity was rarely to stage a siege on a relic keep. Guilds will still want to hold keeps, and if all the uber guilds are in the empire/chaos area because they have aspirations of a capital siege, lower level guilds will be in the other areas to stake claim to keeps there.
What AOC thing? This has nothing to do with it. The concept for the 4 classes and 4 CCs is broken, do you really expect them to twiddle their thumbs while making no money?
Also, what MMO do you consider complete? Just curious, since even with 24 classes and 6 CCs they have yet to introduce all the rest of the warhammer universe into the game.
Feel free to either.
1) Give feedback on how you think the devs should implement all these classes and CCs without causing all the troubles mentioned by Mark in the interview. And benefit WAR and it's community.
2) Stop breathing. And benefit the rest of mankind.
Mythic isn't Funcom, I really think Warhammer will be the next big thing and will dent WoW's player base to an extent. Funcom is a joke.
Really these guys I think are doing the right thing. If the classes aren't unique or they just suck don't put them in the game. There are still plenty of classes.
As far as the main cities go, I would just assume learn my wary around one or two big cities then be overwhelmed with 6. Besides, gives ya something to look forward too anyways.
They need to push it back. AoC V2 will not be good for Mythic. All these crack babies whining about wanting the game now will be the same ones whining in some form of global chat or the main forums once the game is released about how zomg i spent 1 hour on my character and now you nerf it!! zomg nerd rage!!! Rawr!!!

Mythic isn't Funcom indeed. DAoC had a great launch and is a critically aclaimed title. They know what they're doing. Funcom... didn't.

Your recollection of Mythic is being done through rose colored glasses. The initial launch was not as rosy as you seem to recall, and while I think DAOC was one of the greatest games ever, Mythic made more than their share of mistakes. We can only hope they learned from them, although as we saw from Funcom, that isn't always what happens.
I'd recommend they push it back rather then drop content. Fact that they aren't means EA has established a deadline, the game must release this year, regardless of content, so if anything else isn't quite ready (say crafting perhaps?) expect it to also fall out of the release.

Funcom... didn't.

What is the release date?

Your recollection of Mythic is being done through rose colored glasses. The initial launch was not as rosy as you seem to recall, and while I think DAOC was one of the greatest games ever, Mythic made more than their share of mistakes. We can only hope they learned from them, although as we saw from Funcom, that isn't always what happens.
I'd recommend they push it back rather then drop content. Fact that they aren't means EA has established a deadline, the game must release this year, regardless of content, so if anything else isn't quite ready (say crafting perhaps?) expect it to also fall out of the release.
