Considering it takes half the time now to level to 70

Yep, but it's more of a solo journey now.  The days of pick-up groups to go into lower level instances are almost gone.  Just a solo grind over old ground.

If I were Blizzard, I'd revamp the 1 - 60 game in a big way; give folks a reason to go back into Deadmines and Gnomeragen and such.

The worst thing that can happen to WOW is for it to become a retirement home for high level characters.

Yea, i do have to say it doesnt feel worth it to go into the lower level instance. I mean sure there are a few last hopes of players who still do but most high levels tend to just continue their raid and gold farming/AH lives.

Even if people stop playing there are still more than plenty of people that do play. I think WoW could go on forever if they keep the content flowing and do a graphics upgrade.  Seriously people still play UO it was released 10 years ago.

I just recently started playing again and im sure there will be more new players to join and old players to come back.

I dont see where its going but into a good and better market.

WoW has been out for so long, and yea some players may leave and some may come back one day. But WoW really isnt going to fall. Even with your "chart" like stated above not every player has that program added to play. Myself starting off with WoW didnt have a single add-on since i didnt know what they were.

And i WoW itself gives enough content for someone to continue to play and there really isnt anything to do it then that.

It makes me chuckle every time I see people linking that site as reliable numbers. The only 3rd party site I right now consider a somewhat fair indication of the changes (not the total numbers) of any MMOG's activity is XFire.

True.  But some of these same people may come back for WOTLK then quit again which seems to be the neverending cycle every time. Although less come back there seem to be more introductees to the game as well who just started threadmilling.

Or maybe you are seeing the 'summer slump'?

I like how turbine handles updates.  they give out content patches every 2-3 months instead of waiting an entire 1-2 farkin years for an expansion that's not even worth the title.

Have you ever played WoW that long? They surely do give out content every so often...and an expansion is just to expand into the higher levels of endgame play.

  • dromardromar Member Posts: 34

Just wait, when the expansion comes out more players than ever there will be.

They are just  waiting for Wrath!

Its true. while I dont play as much as I used to I do log on a few times a week to do some arena and dailies. Im sure once the expansion comes out tons of people will come back.

after bc came out over 1 mil new accounts were made, i think those who took a break will be back and more people will make new accounts and join and 6 months into it you will see numbers drop again until another exspansion

  • severiusseverius Member UncommonPosts: 1,516

For myself, personally, I left shortly before BC came out.  Was a bit bored of the whole raiding thing and the whole focus of the game being around loot and more loot until everyone was dressed and looking the exact same.  Came back a week or two after BC was released and started on teh path to 70.  By around 65 on my hunter and 64 on my shammie I was done.  Cancelled my account and uninstalled for the last time.

Just not the kind of mmo I want to spend time in.

Population is rebounding, I think.  For some reason, maybe because it's summer or returning players from new games that didn't measure up, the low level population is thriving.  The high level pop was always there, but I have seen lots of folks either being new or re-rolling toons.

And this is good.  If new games fail to deliver, there is always WOW, even though the game is getting a bit long in the tooth.

    "Player Activity EU & US"

So there were over 900.000 players in the EU/US? -.^  *cough* bullshit *cough*

Now that all the players have vanished from the game, the elite of the elite of MMO-genre can return once again to claim e-fame for being original.

    /sarcasm

Don't really know does this reflect anything but the amount of sunshine when you glance through the window. Yet, who knows, it might be that the doom is looming for WoW and everyone is moving on to AoC and WAR. Time will tell, but hardly these charts are summoning any foreseeable end for the triumphant march that is WoW: even with these charts WoW has more players logging in in EU/US alone than AoC has sold in toto.

WoW is still the MMORPG king.  It's not dead.  it's not dying.

But WoW is showing signs of age.  It just is.  The fact of the matter is that even some of the most loyal of WoW customers/players have 'seen/done it all'.  While there is some level of comfort and appeal to the fact that they play in a world where everything is familiar to them... there is also a level of 'yawn'.

The guilds I've belonged to have all but stopped raiding.  Sure, it's summer and people are out and about, but the other side of it is that they don't want to spend days/weeks raiding with such a short window before WotLK launches.

I think the new expansion will take WoW numbers well off of the chart.  Any modest % of growth in WoW would probably = sub total numbers for some of the other  'successful' MMORPG's out there have.

WOW took a hit when AOC launched; folks were ready for a new game.  My opinion is folks are leaving AOC and coming back to WOW.

A week ago, the pops on my server in WOW seemed low, especially the lower level folks.  I thought the game was dying.  But yesterday, things were thriving like I had not seen since the expansion came out.  I think people are returning.

That's not what the chart is saying.  The chart is saying that there are about 900,000 active primetime players on the EU/US servers according to their data.  The total number of players on EU/US servers is a lot higher than this.  More like around 4 to 5 million give or take.  Many just don't log in at primetime and most not every night.  If everyone logged in at the exact same time that number would jump about 5 times.  I know, pretty incredible isn't it?

What exactly happened is the Following

Check that chart again  on April WOW started to lose players  why ? ask your self what happened in April ?

2.4 came out , Alot of players and the majority of hardcore wow players Droped the game the same day 2.4 came out , I my self did the same thing i checked the new area , didnt like the changes done to the game and simply Cancelled my account.

3 Major Fails happened on 2.4

1- Killing Guilds progress by opining raid dungens to all players (to the player who put time , gold and effort to unlock dungens that was not fair) .

2- intreducing season 4 PVP gear that  was more powerfull than alot of raid Loot

3- Offering Badge loot that is more powerful than raid loot

As a result players who used to raid weekly droped the game and looked for something else because Blizzard doesn't respect progress in it's own game ( maybe because they are working on a new game ).

    As a matter of fact .... :))))

Wow regained audiance in the last 14 days.

While this site only shows a trend (because the maker's program Census plus needs to be installed),...

it shows the last 14 days that played characters are again up... by at leats 5% again.

It was 5.8 million charaters played ... now above 6.0 million (last summer of 07 it was even to 5.5 million).

This trend is being confirmed by Xfire stats btw.

Warcraft is again on the rise people. Wheter you like it or not. :)))

I'll predict more than 12 million by December this year after WotLK hits the market
