I've been playing since the relatively early days of UO.
I'm not subscribed to anything atm and if Face of Mankind disappoints me when it goes live, I may well stop playing mmorpgs. I've lost the sense of awe and excitement I had when I first learned about this genre.
To cut a long and detailed story short, these games are made for kids.
Yup, most of the upcoming MMORPGs will be full of l33t h4x0r kiddies. Thanks to EverCrap, it introduced the kids to mmorpgs because of its "Teen rating".
Thanks EverCrap, you stole the glory of mmorpgs and ruined UO
Tish, been playing MUDs since 96. :P Currently I'm not playing anything. Might play WoW or EQ2 when they come out depending on which I like more.
I spent my longest times on UO and AC mainly because they had a storyline to the game. Huzzah! :P When someone comes out with a MMO that has a moving storyline I'll play that. I want more games with storylines that player's can effect rather than a game that you can do whatever you want in that is based on a solid history.

"Your still ignorant if you believe the first thing you see when the blindfold is removed."
Well I have been playing MMORPGs since the first year EQ came out. Since then I always go back to DAoC which I been playing since its release. I played them all and this is my favorite.
I played UO for over three years. I stayed as long as I did because of the community, not so much because of the game itself (which was still a buggy mess three years after release). When the community dried up after UO:R, I left.
I played AC for the free month. I'm still not sure what's supposed to be "fun" about that game (apologies to AC diehards).
DAoC lasted me about 18 months. This game made a PvP convert out of me , but the level grind was horrible and there was no roleplaying.
I just quit SWG two weeks ago after 9 months. It's an innovative game but, after the novelty wears off, it's just a different kind of grind.
I'm not subscribed to anything at the moment. After playing in the WoW stress test, I have decided to wait for that game to go live.

What do you think about mmorpg veterans showing the newbies the "ropes"? Taking the time to introduce them to MMORPGs? Taking the time to help them out, answer their questions, etc?
Or should mmorpg veterans group together, and let the newbies live or die on their own?
been playing mmorpg's since lineage 1 first began, about 7 or 8 years ago.
i remeber looking for a new demo to download and stumbled across it and the description was ''Noone really knows the point of this game, but its becoming extremly popular in asia'
tried everyone since, probably 100 at least some good, most bad.
anyway, if this dont give a hint of the state of mmorpg's(in my mind anyway) im currently playing kid icarus on a NES emulater, going to play the first final fantasy next, then screw around with mike tysons punchout..sandman im coming for you!
Also tried many many of the asian type games like lineage, El-Kardian, Myth of Soma, redmoon.
I must say all had things that were good and I like them all in different ways.
I am currently playing Neocron 2 beta.. And diablo2.. Always diablo 2

I've been playing since UO back in 99 and I'm currenty just trying out games to find something I love as much as I loved EQ back in the old days before the last 2 expansions :P
Haha, i just had to bring this up... I was in my local EB today and i saw Horizons. As i was looking at the box i was literally shocked to see it was selling for only $1.95! I couldnt believe it, i thought it was a misprint. Ive never even seen a bargain bin game for that cheap. I still didnt buy it
I always make my mind very fast about any game I play.
I play EQ for years, way before Kunark come out, and I like it enought to keep playing until GoD which was the worst BS they ever did and left outraged!
I am currently a CoH fan supporter. I may only play the game for a little over 2 weeks, but I loooove it more then ever! Basically the game dont enforce anything on you, you just do what you like, and this is the first game to do this. Yes, the form still lack a lot, super heros is not even in my tastes...I loooove the game nonetheless!
After 2 weeks I know DAoC was not for me and leave it.
After reading EQ2,WoW, Horizons, DnL, Saga and many others, just from reading their FAQ, I know I would HATE their game with a passion.
Vanguard would have fallen into the same category, but, I raise an intriguing eyebrow at their specifics servers section, that may mean I can cut anything I dislike and play with what I like alone, However, can they provide me with interesting upgrades if I cut most of their uninteresting features, if the top players on my servers are not the best groupers and the best soloers in the game worldwide, I will have many issues unless we are beaten fairly by grouping and soloing method only? Anyway, the game is very young in developpment, they may turn extremely nice, or just a EQ2.5 version with nothing interesting to offer.

Many don't like it because it wasn't your typical MMORPG with a star wars paint job. I play it because it's the most open ended MMORPG ever made. It really is less a game and more a complexe virtual world. It's really what MMORPG's were supposed to be by now lol. It's not perfect and SOE pisses me off sometimes with bone headed choises. But IMHO it's better then anything else out there right now. 2: City of Heroes. This game is one of the most shallow MMOG's out there. Might seem odd why I would play both the most deep and one of the shallowest MMORPG's out there. One clear reason.. the combat system breathed fresh air into a stagnating industry. Yea I said stagnating. Hell as evidence look at World of Warcraft. Made by a prestigious company who has never had a failed game and enjoys more success then most would dream of. Yet they make this MMORPG which is a carbon copy of EQ for Christs sake. Nothing new, nothing original. Hell the game isn't even about Warcraft. It's EQ with a new paintjob.. 9 slapped together classes with absolutely NO debth and a solid 2 years worth of polish on it. The fact that its just the same-old same-old is the single biggest reason I don't like it. I strive to play MMORPG's that push the genre, or open new forms of gameplay. WoW offers none of this. It'll be a success for sure.. but hell so is SWG and look at what some people say about that! lol.
Did you beta test world of warcraft? Or this is just you're first thought on it. I kind of have high hopes for WOW because all the mmorpgs on the market now are pretty much crap, and I dont have the Omega Computer XII to play EverQuest II on. So this is pretty much my last bet on an mmorpg.
i play SWG... its the best game out, good combat system (even though people flame on it because they dont know how to use it right) you can put strategy into combat.. its great combat, could be faster but it is still good, Good PvP, people say there is no PVP... get into a guild.. or try to find PvP, it might be the server they were on. The game is tons better than it was the first few months and id suggest people get back into it. its the best MMORPG game ive ever played. open-ended,good community, only bad thing going for it is SOE published it.. thats it, SOE can make people leave in a second, all i say is look past SOE and its the best MMORPG out. sooo many things to do.. people get bored cause they max out a profession from grinding.. this game is not about grinding unless you wanna become a jedi, theres sooo much to explore, PvP, talk smack to rebels/imps depending on what you are so many crafting choices as well. you might get bored after a year.. (A YEAR) if you do get bored because your a uber carebear grinder.. go for jedi. then you can be an uber roleplayer, people respect jedi cause it takes alot to become one. so i advise everyone that quit SWG to play again, try it. join the server Bria, its the most populated and the best to find PvP as well as anything else, so try it, Bria or Ahazi (and Jump to lightspeed coming out as well. gonna step up the game another notch)
SWG is the best MMORPG ever!! dont let people fool you because they dont like SOE!!

I've stress-tested WoW, and yes it's not the second coming, nor is it the holy grail of MMORPGs. Like the previous poster has said, it's more of the same, with additional bells and whistles and plenty of polish. The world is lively, beautiful, and animated, in some respect, with a healthy dose of quests, though they too sometimes border on the ho-hum, and yet they provide a nice push for travelling and exploring.
I"m currently grinding away in CoH with a good company of players, but I'm looking forward to Jump-to-Lightspeed and possibly EQ2. I'm not sure about MxO, but I'm curious about its gameplay and fun factor. Next year, I have my sights on Guild Wars, Tabula Rasa, and City of Villains (oh, yeah), and possibly DnD Online and Auto Assault. I have mixed feelings about Middle Earth Online, but it looks promising.
Age and wisdom (or is it family and a newly bought house) has helped me to come to the conclusion that I rather take it slow and wait for a game that I can see myself spend years of time in, much like I did with DAoC. The rest of the games I have tried after feeling I was "finished" with DAoC hasnt satisfied me for various reasons. Sure I have had good times, SWG, Horizons, CoH and AO...but I haven't found a place to call home.
My RL-crew are getting together and are eager to start our new lives in the world of EQII, even though none of us never played EQ...so that will be my choice, and according to friends in beta + previews/reviews/interviews I have high hopes that this game will satisfy me.

I've been an MMO player since Dragon Realms in 1994 or 95 I can't really remember. As it's 2004 this is probably my ten year aniversery of MMORPGing. Go me. As to the question pertaining to which game I'm currently playing, well lets just say that after a week plus of play in the wow stress test and playing the closed beta at a buddies house, I've closed my COH and Daoc acounts. While WOW might not be currently out there, I am certainly playing it in my head.
