LOL.... WoW is such a copycat

GAWD, I REALLY am  starting to dislike blizzard...

NOW look at what they're doing:

This is 'their' version of a tome of knowledge.

Before we know it, they'll be adding public quests....

This has already been debated. A month or two ago.

WoW *is* a copycat (thankfully since i like achievements).

You're clearly mistaken if you think this is a clearcut copy of the ToK though. This is a copy off the Lotro and Console achievements systems. The ToK isn't *that* unique :)

hehe i hate to admit it but i like the looks of WoW's TOK better then WAR's.  it looks like it is less confusing and easier to use .

You touched right there as to why WoW is so popular IMO. WoW takes the ideas from others, simplifies them, and gives them to their community with almost 0 problems. I like this honestly. I am not a WoW fanboi but I do like the game enough to have played it for 3 years and then get burnt out like so many others. Except I go back to it every 6 months for about 2 months of play before getting burnt out again.

Maybe Blizz got jealous and thought since all those "wow-killers" where stealing from her she might do the same, steal some ideas .. Besides its not that Blizz owns the whole mmo universe, bringing innovative ideas,is it?! -_-

Too little too late. Like everything else from Blizzard.

If they did this 2 years ago I' d say "good job Bliz" even if it were stolen from GW actually.

But now? It took them how many years to bother introducing something as simple and obviously entertaining as this?

And they finally got around to doing it only when backed against the wall by the competition.

    Meh... just meh...

You make it sound like they have been doing nothing all this time ^^

I just hope the achievements system becomes a standard in every mmo from now on, already loved it in other games, especially TF2 ^^

Yep, but in the case of Wow I would leave out words like "too little"  lol

The achievement system started with certain first person shooters(battlefield series) and was continued and harnessed  by xbox live.  Anybody play battlefield: Bad company lately?  That game seriously gives you a medal, trophy, or award everytime you accomplish sometimes ingame as meager as getting three headshots in a row.  The accomplish system is a great way to make players feel like..(wait for it)...they are accomplishing something.  Rewards are grand and get players hooked.  I was hooked to a certain game just because i got to see my name on the top 10 list once a month.

My point is that they've been extremely stingy about adding anything really new into their game. Oh, there's a PvE dungeon now and again and a shiny new reputation to be grinded but that is just about it regarding new content.

It seems that they really don't care about their game being actually fun. For them it is (or was) all about throwing in a new carrot now and then.

If you compare this with GW which was constantly updated with new mini-games and nice "just for fun" features you start to get the picture how Blizzard operates.

I could give you a huge list of simple, easy to implement  features Bliz could have added over time to massively improve the "fun factor" of their game, but I won't be bothered. I couldn't care less about that PoS or the sharks that built it anymore.

    here's just one: Guild Alliances.

Now how long does it take to program a dedicated chat channel with a bit of UI attached? Meh.... I rest my case and turn my back on WoW.

Just because you don't think it's "fun" doesn't mean it isn't.

    Think about it ^^

omg..not again. Havent we already discusse this to death? And seriously, comparing WoW with GW??? You might as well compare a Ferarri to a russion Lada for christ sake. What Blizzard do, is take ideas from all over the place, simplify them, put em into their games and just make it fun to play em out. Sure you have a burnout now and then, but that is entirelly your own fault. Get up from the damn chair once in a while Besides, copying eachother been done with computer games since its early beginnings.

WoW is not fun for you. WoW is fun for 10+ million people. To each his own.

I agree, with Pheace.  What one person does not consider fun doesn't hold true to everybody.  I am burnt out from wow and have been looking at many other game top to bottom.  I was considering the sage of ryzom but i figured i might aswell hold off for WAR.  This doesn't mean WoW players get bored as i did.

Sure it's easier for some people. I acually don't see a difference other than one is a book that records EVERYTHING you do and the other is just a simplified version that has achievements that you can do.

Many people don't like WoW because Blizzard treats it as if a retarted person is playing it. But there are those people that don't mind...it's just me I guess...Ugh!

    Don't patronize me.

There are things that are easy to implement and increase "fun" for everybody. I wasn't talking about changing the direction of the game at all. I'm talking about little improvements that cost next to nothing but make a world of difference in how friendly a game is.

Just think how much easier it would have been to organize raids if there was a Guild Alliance channel? This is just one tiny little example. Oh and guild calendar while we're at it? WAR has it... basically it's on the level of an UI mod. Why isn't it in like... dunno 3 years ago? It's not like we're building pyramids here - little things that show you care about players and their having a good time.

I won't go into other obvious stuff because I really really don't want to talk about that game anymore. RIP.

    Oh lol......

Maybe like a billion of them? Ages ago I bothered on WoW boards but I wont anymore. Meh, just meh. That game lost its chance to get real quality looong ago.

Bliz realized that gear whoring is as good if not better player motivation than actual having fun. This is so obvious on so many levels but I know its hard to see it when you're deep within WoW's maw.

Don't want to waste my time or pixel space on my screen on that exploitative crap anymore. Over and out.

  • slask777slask777 Member Posts: 706

Ok, you're a hater...got it. But if you think about it, all mmo's are exploitative. Its kinda in their nature. They try to hook you in and then milk you for money.

You fail to realise blizzard did public quests a long tim ago with AQ gate opening and more recently with patch 2.4.0 where players had to work for months to build a town, unlock dungeons, vendors and quests.. WoW does Public quests on a massive scale.. WAR just took the idea diluted it and served it up about a 100 times.

Exactly, you are finally starting to think like a mmorpg company.  KEEP the customer playing as long as possible.   I won't say that WoW is the best mmorpg out there because i do not think it is.  But it does one thing very well, and that is keep players playing.
