You know the SWG crazies were easy to ignore before but they are actually out in the daylight and very annoying I might say. Where did this sense of "The world owes me because I was dissapointed by an MMO" come from? I mean get a god damn life, we've all been burned before and we are all a little jaded, get over yourselves.
On tghe other hand, Bioware is, in my opinion the best gaming company in the business atm and should produce an excellent product.
number 1!!!! Bioware doesnt need to have a main mind set on swg vets. That is not there game. KOTOR is there game.
number 2!!!! BIoware are known for being innovative, so you can be sure there will be things in this game you have never seen before, it wont be like WOW.
I'm still wondering why alot of pre-nge swg fans seem to think any Star Wars MMO has to be a sandbox. I like others wouldnt mind a sandbox thats good, but no one says Bioware is going to make it.

i agree. i think those guys are kinda crazy. they are really clinging on to much! the bioware game will be nothing like SWG, any of the versions. You guys gotta let go.

I also agree. It's almost sounds like they're incapable of enjoying any games now because of SWG pre-cu. It's really kind of sad. I really enjoyed pre-cu once they added mounts, vehicles, space, dropped wait times on shuttles etc etc. It was improving. But I've enjoyed other MMOs even more since then.
BioWare is the greatest maker of single player CRPGs ever – period.
No one has any idea if they can translate what they do into a MMO.
Dragon Age looks fantastic, we can always play that.
Instead of spending 3-7 years discussing (on forums) why the next big company’s MMO is going to suck, why don’t you spend all that time and energy designing one. Just write it all out. A design is a thing, even if it doesn’t go anywhere after that, you still have made a thing, and making things is good.

First time I heard about SWG I dreamt about a game that combined DarkForces I and Tie Fighter.
I was disappointed by the queued combat style at launch. I adapted and understood it was a need as it let players chat (type) and combat at the same time.
Pre-CU socialisation, crafting and templating was great, combat system medium at best. Everything was worse after that.
When I left SWG, some time after NGE I tryed and loved Battelfront, that was StarWarsy.
With in game voice chat feature available now I look forward an FPS SW MMO with console melee combos. Sandbox... not sure,.
I've been reading a lot on SWG and Bioware MMO rumors.
So far there where no hints about a complex crafting system, and we know the crafted items put a huge load on SWG databases. So we can guess bioware would avoid this issue.
It's been written there would be around 9 professions with smuggler and BH. Once again Bioware seems to avoid the troublesome issues to balance 32 professions and infinite templates. I agree there where way too many professions in SWG.
In SWG there where no instances nor quests to do at launch and for some time. So you could log in and sat clueless about what to do. Knowing Bioware and regarding their announcements we know players will interact with NPCs. It seems there will be many many dialogues. I fear there will be too much of them and we'll loose the freeness feeling we had in SWG.
The biggest concern I have is about socialisation. I read player would follow a storyline going from a planet/location to another. It seems to put a huge constraint on socialising with others players. If it's true I hope they have put a high emphasis on this and found ways to enhance socialisation.
Contrary to many players I was never fond of JTL as it was a pale copy of Origin Wing Commander (poor) UI and (bad) flight dynamics. X-wing series had far superior UI, ship management and flight dynamics. In Bioware MMO we are supposed to get fully customisable player ships, sounds good for that part. I hope the ship management will be great. I'm pretty sure we'll get capital ships and space stations as it was really high in demand in SWG.
About the Jedi stuff, maybe it's just me but I was and I'm still not looking forward being this Jedi hero. I'd rather them be rare and played by NPC (or GM). When it's become common it looses the preciousness.
I am slowly but surely beginning to see why BioWare/LucasArts have kept this secret for so long and probably wanted to keep it under wraps for much longer if EA's Head-Honcho hadn't spilled the beans.
The reactions this "announcement" caused are quite frankly hilarious.
Bioware is great at making nromal Computer RPGs, they are good at working with stories. So my current guess is that the game will be very quest oriented with a underlying storyline (maybe a bit like Lotro in this aspect).
anyway i am not getting too excited about this game now since we know near to nothing about the game they are making besides that it is a kotro mmo. Will it have pve as mainfocus, or try to do both pve and pvp? will there be a good crafting system and a good market for playermade products or will everyone just use looted items or questrewards? How will combat system work classic mmo or more action based? ...
there is just so many aspects we have absolutely no idea about that i personally think it is far too early to even think about starting to hype a game. and i have had enough of overhyped games in the last years so i will follow this game over the next few years and decide later when we have more infos if it will really be a a mmo for me or just another game that doesn't meet its hype.
I just hope that Bioware has been making a mmo that dwells into the massive SW universe and lore, and not one that has sprinklle's of SW in it, like SWG was from the beginning. I loved the open feeling SWG had but it never captured the full scope of SW.
here are the problems that I see coming to Bioware: - they underestimate what SOE has done to the Star Wars Galaxies Veterans - they underestimate what will happen if their kotor mmo will become another wow clone beside all of these unfinished cookie cutter causal player games we have seen during the last few years (vanguard, dark & light, age of conan) - they think that the IP "star wars" will be a guarantee success, even more than word of warcraft, only because its star wars - many players like the "original" star wars galaxies beause of the sandbox style gameplay and because the players where the content, not stupid "get 7 of X and bring it to Y" quests like in word of warcraft
but of course I could be all wrong and bioware is about to develop one of the biggest sandbox style games the world has ever seen, right after ultima online and pre-cu star wars galaxies, we will see
Bioware is not SOE. Also, what is it with people thinking Bioware has to appease ex SWG fans? I am an ex vet of SWG-preNGE(played it for 3+ years). I loved SWG back then. However Bioware had nothing to do with SWG. So how is it they owe is anything?
You know what Ireally hope happens? I hope Bioware delivers a game based on the KoToR time period that is fun to play. It is a wait sand see game right now because we still know nothing. They might surprise us all and make an awesome MMORPG. KoToR was awesome...one of the best SPRPG's I ever have played. If anyone can bring KoToR to life as an MMO I think Bioware can.
I agree. The ex-SWG fans are not a factor.
Yes, I understand they were screwed over, but most people didn't play SWG in the first place, so really it's a non-issue.
If the game is good, it's good, and I'll play it, regardless fo what happened to SWG. If it's bad, I won't paly it. Simple as that.
KOTOR is a great IP, I just hope it doesn't get turned into a piece of crap.
Imho listening to the community is exactly what they DON'T want to do. Bioware knows how to make games, and they do a great job. Wow is the result of devs listening to the players. when EQ and FF11 were the juggernaunts, everyone bitched about the difficulty, inability to solo, and the grind. Blizzard went and changed all of that. (of course now people don't want that) People saw the results and were disgusted. well guess what people? you asked for it
This is exactly the problem. Developers need to learn when to listen to the people and when not to. The masses are who they will listen to. Its when a developer tries to cater to all of the people is when they lose their direction and end up creating a confusing mess. If they could stick to their guns and make what THEY want to make is when the game will be great.

I agree. You don't simply listen to the masses. They don't know what they want, and they will ask for things they THINK they want, but then realize they don't want once you give it to them.
However, you SHOULD listen to yoru beta testers. If they say something isn't working, or something isn't fun, you should pay attention, and see what you can do to fix it.

And what do you mean not evryone has alienhardware thats just a made up lie!!!
Also please deliver bug ridden glitches and a sandbox full of exploteable holes to abuse!
And a huuuuuuuuge galaxy/world so that when i explore i feel soOOoO alone that the only thing that comforts me is the chat box *sniffle*
Please dont make it easy to use so thats it a fun game that anyone can play, im a nerd with no life with a nuclair physic degree! evrything needs to be completed! toilet skill 50 please!! make it so!!

On the same page as you guys, look at Cliffy B when he made Gears of War, hes been quoted as saying "I didnt make a game for fans, I made a game for me, something I wanted to play." Alot of people gave him shit for that, but that is the same thing I would do.
Gears of War is one of my favorite games, Cliffy B is a gamer, and he knows what gamers want because he knows what he wants.

Some of you really don't get it. Lucas Arts is involved heavily, so much for Bioware making it the way they want. You can bet LA will be insisting it be done THEIR way and since they own the IP guess who has final say?
This will not be your normal Bioware game. Actually if the IP were not so popular, I don't think Bioware would have touched it primarily because of LA interference.

Oh, and your WoW-bashing is tiresome, misguided and ridiculous. If you think WoW was THE ONLY one that came up with that kind of questing system, then you need to get your head examined or play more MMO's because the whole "kill this bring it to that person" quest system has been in online games since WAY before WoW, so do yourself a favor and stop making ridiculous accusations against WoW without first knowing the facts.
I disagree for 1 simple reason... The length at which Bioware goes to put depth and originality in their games are second to none. I love the company and played nearly everygame they have made. I doubt they would release a simplistic wow style game that so many others are trying to do.
Well, a successful MMO needs more than just Jedi and Bounty Hunter. Moreover, we need something other than "set-in-stone" classes that have a level 70-80 cap. We need superb crafting, land housing, and ability to mix and match professions to be successful. I'm hoping they don't go with the typical questing approach like every single WoW competitor has done. It's not going to work.
I'm just hoping that they know what a sandbox game is. They make some truly great console games, however, those have no place at all in the MMO realm.

It's Bioware. Bioware hasn't let anyone down so far.
But this will be their first MMO. So I'm pretty sure it's going to be done correctly. It might even be canned due to not being what they envision.
And regarding SWG. I'll admit, the skill system was cool and the crafting was nice. But it had the most horrible questing system I've ever seen.
