mark my words, half the ppl that play WoW and EQ2 after they are released for a month or 2 will be talkin crap about it just like every other mmo out there.

Novelty is a wonderful thing, until it wears off. image

I've also played EQ, AC2, L2, Planetside, COH, and FFXI, but those aren't even worth listing in a top 5.

    1) Asheron's Call (The best story line, my first and favorite MMORPG of all...that's why I have been playing it for around 5 years)

    2) SWG (I first watched my friend play it, and I wanted to get it but waited for the trial version. The first time I played the trial version, I was a bit disappointed and the game felt dull. But the second time I played the trial, I got a handle on the mechanics and played with my RL friend. Now I really like the game, so I'll be buying it very very soon)

    3) Eve Online (I'm currently playing the trial. First impressions were that it seemed OK at first, but I'm really starting to like it)

UO - first MMorpg, what can I say there will always be a place in my heart for it hahahimage

FFXI - Great game but just couldnt afford to play 3 MMorpgs, and it just happened to be the one that I had to drop image

Ragnarok Online - Beta tested the first one and loved it, and still play it today when I can (only on the free servers though image

AC - the first one not the second one

    1. Asheron's Call 1 - When it first came out (not what it is today). There were no portals to get to your basement in a house, there were no l33t 30-40 dmg daggers. The best swords were 8-16 and there were no al 500 suits of armor - only one special suit of al 200+ armor on each server.

    2. Gemstone III - It's no longer around but was the best MUD out there, and since it had quite a few members, I would have considered it an MMORPG as well. The RPG actually held truth in it.

    3. Planet Side - I've got no complaints with this except that the range in weaponry from medium assault to heavy assualt matters little. Otherwise, it's a decent MMOG and I enjoyed it from its birth.

    4. Dark Age of Camelot - I like this game because of how it sticks with traditional fantasy and has a number of races.

    5. World War II Online - Good game. Only thing is - not enough people or too big of a map being played at the moment. Hard to find a good fight, but once I do it's a pretty awesome game. Hard on newbies too - not very userfriendly at first.

  •   1. RUNESCAPE ........ great for getting computer newbies intrested in checking out MMORPGs. It is free. There is nothing to download. Anyone can play it and get their MMORPG fix no matter how broke they are, how tight their budget is, how old their computer is.

      2. STRIVE FOR POWER ..... the most HARDCORE MMORPG out and ever made (except for UO when it FIRST came out.) Harks back to the old days of RPGs like Ultima, Bard's Tale, Phantasy, Temple of Apshai... the days when players were forced to think, and keep on thinking... as well as read, research, and not easily give up - not just run around without caution, and mindlessly click attack, spam for money (It's hard to give other players gold in SfP heheh! So there's no begging!). Players are FORCED to stop being thoughtless, immature, and mindless... sooner or later because this is the only MMORPG that has - permadeath! More of a thinking person's game.

      3. ANARCHY ONLINE..... soooo many new, improved, and revolutionary game features that all others are now copying. Arguably currently the BEST all around MMORPG. PvP done right. As well as loads of intresting content, features, and the only game with the best ever atmospheric flight.

3b. EVE ONLINE..... Space only. But NICE for gamers who are starved for a different setting other than Swords and Magic. Intresting game features. A refreshing game for Sci-Fi fans in the still untapped Sci-Fi MMORPG market. There are sooo many skills. This is a thinking person's game. (Like Strive for Power is heheh.)

       4. EVER QUEST ....... insane amounts of content. It completly brought alive the world of J.R.R. Tolkien. (from ALL of his books! Lord of the Rings is not even close to the tons of books he wrote about Middle Earth... many do not know this...LOL!) I am still in AWE at how they did the Tree Elf City aka Lothlorian (especially considering the 5+ year old technology of EQ!). Also has the best ever swimming feature, even now.

       5. STAR WARS GALAXIES...... Had incredible potiential during its first 6 months. I'd even say it was near paradise during its first 6 months of release (if only it had PvP for land control like AO does!).

Currently being destroyed by LucasArts (not by SOE) because of LucasArts spaming the internet with new ad banners borderline falsly advertising this game as another Jedi Outcast, Jedi Power Battles, and Knights Of the Old Republic. I still find it fun to play....

Very fun to play as long as one is NOT trying to become a Jedi. But instead check out the 30+ other professions. It being a 100% Skill Based game is very intresting, and allowing each character to be 3 1/2 professions at the same time, and making it so that players are not forced to automatically be any template, add to its freshness.

5b. ASTONIA....(aka Astonia III)... Just my own personal little favorite. Nothing special to see here, unless you are like me - intrested in one day making your own MMORPG. Mostly because it is a NICE study on how anyone can make their own 3-D "mom and pop.... and little kid" modern MMORPG that can legitimatly compeat with the big boys. With just a few bucks too! Now if only they invested in better bandwidth to stop the regular spurts of lag LOL! Also has some intresting game features.

5c. T D Z K. ...... Intresting Sci-Fi MMORPG. Basically EvE Online with far, far, far, less graphics, but different and intresting features - like being able to land on planets, owning planets, storing loot on planets (makes you feel soo much like a pirate and smuggler!), taking over planets, and my favorite.... raiding NPC spacestations for lots of looooot! Also intresting PvP. One is able to loot enemy ships too.

These are my top five of all time.  My choices would be much different if I listed my top five most recent mmorpgs.  I base my opinion by one standard - how much I enjoyed the game while I played.

    1.  Everquest

    2.  Ultima Online

    3.  Dark Age of Camelot

    4.  Star Wars Galaxies

    5.  City of Heroes

The first mmorpg I ever played was UO back when it was first released.  I was already a big PC gamer and I was stuck on Tombraider and Warcraft II at the time.  When UO came out I played around the clock and enjoyed it.

When I first heard that a fully 3D mmorpg was being made I flipped out.  Needless to say I was addicted to EQ for over 2 years and had so much fun playing I will never forget.  I am so anxious to play Everquest II, I hope I get the same feeling when I play that one.

Dark Age of Camelot was an after thought.  I was still playing EQ and having fun, but I was curious about DAoC.  I didn't buy it right away but broke down and got it.  I never looked back.  It was a fun game, but what really kept me hooked was the fine job the developers did and continue to do to improve the game.  DAoC had the best roleplaying community back then and they still have strong roleplaying servers with many great RPers.

Star Wars Galaxies was such a hype.  I Expected great things.  I was accepted to the beta test and was very upset with it.  I tested for a while and finally gave up on it.  I did buy the final release, however.  I am a very big Star Wars fan and I had faith in SOE (still do).  The game had been improving but at a snails pace.  All I can say is that the roleplayers in my server dominated the game for me.  They made it so much fun that I soon forget about the technical and design issues the game has.  I recently cancelled my account, but that's not to say I didn't have a great time in the year I played.

City of Heroes is a nice change.  I have a blast playing my hero in a good group.  There has yet to be many roleplayers who really impress me, but then again, the game is focused on fighting and missions, there is not much opportunity for RP like there is in Star Wars Galaxies.  The two games are almost total opposites, but both have their strong points and both do an excellent job in them.  I love CoH because I can keep my account going while playing another mmorpg and log in to play for an hour or two without the feeling for having to catch up to friends.  It is relxed and fun.

So from this I would like to list my top 5 most anticipated mmorpgs:

    1.  Everquest II

    2.  Dark and Light

    3.  Fallen Earth

    4.  Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

    5. World of Warcraft

    .....the 3 i enjoyed

I only have 3 so here goes:

    1) Asheron's Call--was the very first mmorpg I ever played and introduced me to the new idea of playing with thousands of people in a virtual landscape. Played for about 3 years and was highly addicted to it.

    2) City of Heroes--awesome concept and more or less upped the bar for me on creating and customizing a character endless combinations and designs. Content was lacking and got extremely boring grinding out level after level on the same areas. I understand most games are treadmill laden xp machines but this was just too tedious. Enemies were good, graphics were nice, idea rocked...lacking something tho.

    3) Horizons--a replacement from AC though not a very good one. Really enjpyed this game right off the shelf and played a good 3-4months. Most race selections I had seen on a game that I actually played and the promise of at least 3 more was delightful so cam back for Dryads as a playable race, quit 3 weeks later.

That was about my favorite 3 so far, played Lineage 2, SWG, Earth and Beyond and AO but those were the 3 that I enjoyed the most.

I have to say that I have a favourite game list, but probably none of them are mmorpgs. I must confess that MMOs are quite amusing when playing at first, but them I get fed up with them. On the other hand, the best MMOs (in my opinion) are never free, and since I think that the best game is the free one; I could not give a sincere opinion on my best rated MMORPGs. Probably the most amusing one, which is pretty good for me, even repeating once more time and more its storyline is the "Puzzle Pirates" image, that shall never  let us down, because you know what to expect forever once you've played it.

I think that there shall be a MMO depending on our own mood, (mental) age; and idiosyncrasy, and probably most of you who match that criteria will match the top 5 list.

As this is going as too philosophical... I leave it alone. Cheers!
