Thats nothing aoc uses the modified ao graphics engine. The dreamworld engine they did a great job updating it and eliminating all the flaws of ao lol.
Don't see what all the fuss is about quite frankly. It's all just algorithms - why can't they re-use aspects of AO; I think the graphics are a development of AO's graphics - great, why not?
I mean, sure it's sloppy in the sense that the AO terms linger on in the code somewhere, but whether the presence of those old terms means automatically that the game must be bad is another question.
AO is a classic MMO whether one likes it or not. It's lasted a good long time, and it has some great gameplay that's kept players entertained fora long time.
It would be no surprise at all if FC reused some of the ideas from their previous MMO.

That's not the point.
The point is if you are using code from a game that actually works now... and have 5 years to mold it to your new project. The crap should more or less work out of the box.
Instead of a company running around like a chicken with its head cut off.
At least from my perspective.. using pre-existing code should be something you do to:
1) shorten development time
2) You already know how it works (goes back to 1) and should cause less issues later.
That to me is the point...
So one has to wonder if this was the way it always was.. or if they tried to do this instead in order to hit a street date.
I didn't buy AoC so that I could be unhappy and crap on it on a forum. I paid the money I did hoping for an enjoyable game. I actually enjoyed AO at launch (yes I might be the only one!!).
It's sort of like Plagiarism. If you get so sloppy on stealing the report that you leave tell tail signs there, you are sure to get a F.
Also how hard would have been to check the code for the tool tip? Wouldn't that be high on your priority list. This is just a sign that not only the debuggers but even the original programmers were sloppy.

Sometimes I wonder if all this game developers actually ever played any MMOs or video games in general.....
Often I wonder if people on forums like this even grasp how hard it is to develop a game in this genre.
And topics like this proof that people will find anything to nitpick at regardless how small it is you will see a topic created for it. Kinda continue's to proof that some people really have nothing better to do.
Nothing new... anybody who played Anarchy Online could see alot of similarities in Age of Conan. Sliding bugs ... the choppy running engine ... etc. etc. ... i say it again.. biggest mistake ever of Funcom was to use their old engine for a new game... any other game with a brand new engine would perform far better then Age of Conan with the same gfx ... Honestly speaking.. the AoC Engine is sadly older then then WoW engine...

well I logged in and did confirm it's in there...no lie from OP.
however... a couple points...
1. hate to tell u guys this...but EVERY company recycles it's code for newer projects... and some don't even build their own graphics engine some buy the engine from another company.
2. This only shows that the Q&A team needs to be coached on how well they do their job, not how bad the total picture of the game is....lol... I'm still playing AoC and having a blast with my girl, we're both lvl 48's....
3. and i want to make one more point... I hear tons of ppl say they have 2 lvl 80's and 3 lvl 70's...bla bla... I've been playing this game EVERY day since launch day, and I find it difficult to believe that those ppl are being truthful or have not somehow exploited something.... ya, I'm questioning the facts on just how fast you ppl lvl up and then declare something no good.

You need to learn abit about the game before you start questioning anything.
Up until recently, the Apprenticing System (an ingame, developer supported feature) allowed characters to temporarily level up to a higher level in order to assist customers wanting to play together, but who might not be the same level as there high level friend.
If apprenticed to a Level 80 character, your own character would effectively become a Level 79, however only certain statistics scale with the apprenticeship, aggro range and skills/abilities remain as they originally were.
During the time they were apprenticed, those characters were able to gain experience at an extremely enhanced rate, and the game would count the xp towards your characters actual xp needed to level (not what a 79 would need to level). This allowed for fast level gains, with many players doing 20-65+ in a single day.
Recently this was changed so the system now has a level restriction mechanic in place, limiting the max level difference the mentor can be from the apprentice.
Also, if you bothered to read patch notes, you would know that until a recent patch a low level character could head to a patch of high level mobs will his high level friend ungrouped, lowbie taps the mob and the high level could kill it netting the low level character a MASSIVE XP gain equal to if he had been equal to the mobs level. When you are able to pull in 4-6k xp per mob at low levels, obviously the xp gain would be rather dramatically increased.
Todays Lesson: ignorance is not bliss, and when you call someone out, you had better have at least half a clue about what you are accusing them of. Lest you appear the fool.

and how is this not an exploit? they nerfed it for that very reason... you make my point.
edited afterthought: Creeping doom, did YOU use this method to go from 20+ - 65+ in one day? Is this why you are defensive?
I guess I'm questioning YOU .
Afterall, isn't the only ignorant question the unasked one?
and how is this not an exploit? they nerfed it for that very reason... you make my point.
No, I don't, I suggest you learn what an exploit actually is.
You are a good example of players who create confusion for other players, by not having any idea about the subjects you are trying to discuss. Exploit is a term used way too often these days, and almost always out of context.
Simple logic proves MY point for me all by itself.
Notice how FC straight up snatched gold back from players that were caught exploiting and then banned there accounts?
Notice how FC straight up caught players for using the ToS leveling exploits and then banned there accounts?
Notice how FC straight up caught and banned accounts that were abusing the pathing bugs to defeat high level PvE content? or any number of other actual exploits, of which they have always made clear as to what is and isn't considered as such.
Now, consider how not a single account has been reprimanded for the use of the App System or the initial mechanic for tapping mobs and xp gain.
Poorly designed mechanics that require adjustments are not exploits, people complained and fixes were rendered, you cant punish players for making use of something that was ingame, when they were never informed of it being wrong or unintended in anyway. Nor was anyone ever punished or warned about making use of the systems while they were in the state they were.

Only funcom is to be blamed since it designed one system without actually thinking about the consequences.
edited: and the reaosn why they changed it was more because allowed people to level to 80 and see for themselfs an almost barren game than just the fact they leveled to 80....

well said guru, of course it makes sense to use some of the same code, most software houses do this
a guess the moot point is the system they described/marketed before game release was not the one they have elbowed in now
I received a survey from Funcom, they seem to need help.
About time they asked to customers, although I cancelled, was too late to stop the first bill though.
Will they listen to their cries? Will they screw up again?
In time we will see.

It now looks like Funcom should of just went ahead and updated AO instead of wasting time with AoC. Then again I guess AoC was good for a quick buck??
