every source on this points back to the same portfolio page second hand interview. Why is everyone treating it any different than all the other rumor sources? I'm just curious if i missed something important, a video of this announcement, anything at all directly from Bioware, EA, or lucasarts?
yeah it came form the head of EA. If thats not good enough for ya than just wait I guess. No reason to believe he doesnt know what he is talking about.
As for why this game is not listed on this website? Where to begin...... just read the mmorpg.com FAQ on what games can be listed and why. For starters, this game has no official website and no ingame screenshots yet.

Official sources..ever heard of them? This is big news and logic tells that they mention it on either of those webpages. Its just the rumourtrain, ignore it. Can be true or untrue, who knows?
Oh, and looksie, I can start a rumour too. In the next few years a new mmo based on the Grand Theft Auto series will be started, or atleast be in planning, as I heard it mentioned to me in a trance I had yesterday
...and while I'm at it, offtopic but bleh...wtf is the point in winning a contest over here when you never get the prize??? Won www.mmorpg.com/contests/banshee_promo.cfm and still havent got any stuff sent to me. Just some crappy headset but still...

The difference here being that you aren't the head of EA
I've got a commenter accusing me of breaking NDA and telling me to keep my mouth shut, "FFS". And it's not, as far as I can tell, a BioWare employee. It's just some guy who's apparently really angry about this.
Well, that last part is...odd. Glad to hear about the work part. I like to lurk here and read your (vague and utterly unspecific!) thoughts on work stuff, so I'd hate to see you muzzled.

Your logic fails.
When the head of EA, who owns Bioware, says that Bioware is working on a KOTOR MMO, and every reputable electronic entertainment site from here to china feels that it was reliable enough to report on it without questioning the source validity, I think it's a pretty safe bet that it's true.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

I bet the suits at all those companies are sitting around a conference table laughing their A$$es off reading the forum boards on all the gaming sights. Hell, I think this is f**king hillarious and I'm not even one of them.
I'm with the sceptics on this one, if there was to be a Star Wars-themed MMO projected to be released sometime next year, surely there would be a big official announcment at E3 this past week, not some random off-hand comment from the EA Boss to some blog that no-one's heard of, it just doesn't make sense, no the Bioware MMO is still a secret, and whatever it is it's not Star Wars/KotOR-related, that's my five cents. You can all laugh at me later when I'm proven wrong and they do announce it

E3 is dying, and will probably either not exist next year, or see a triumphant return of the fanfare of years past....name one major announcement by any large developer or hardware maker this year? There weren't any, hell, Blizzard wasn't even there at all. That's because major announcements are being saved for the companies' exclusive and dedicated conventions...This announcement will be made official later this year, perhaps at comic-con, which is in a few days.

It wasn't a blog that posted the article, it was the website of an investment magazine. The person who wrote the article was a journalist for the magazine. This wasn't a case of someone thinking it would be cute to start a rumor. If the author of the article lied about the content of the article, it would have severe financial consequences for his employer. If the CEO of EA lied, he could be facing federal charges for stock manipulation.
This is a official as you can get without LEC issuing a press release. Since the secret is no longer a secret, a press release might be comming within the next week. At this point, trying to ignore it is going to cause more problems than announcing it early.

I can't decide how to feel about this news. I am excited because I LOVE star wars, I loved KotAR, and Bioware makes good games. I'm uneasy because I think Bioware will be aiming at the WoW market, and alas make a spoon fed linear game, which isn't the sand box I am looking for. And after reading the interview with the Bioware MMO devs from which they all said they were playing WoW, I fully expect a World of Star Wars.
Great. And it is likely that they will be successful doing it further show that the trend is for MMO with good content and forget all about that sandbox crap.
Bioware and EA for that mater have a new strategy. Instead announcing the game , and promising, teasing, promising....for few years. They announce the game when it is almost ready for release (around 6 months before) When they finally officially announce Kotor MMO , it will be in almost completely playable state.
This is what i think is going to happen
Yeah it's what I thought too. With the many professional nay sayers in these places, who can blame them.

This is what i think is going to happen
The game has reportedly only been in development for "well over a year"
Now this can mean that it has been in development for five years, or just short of two years...but I don't think that they would start to build the hype train with the thought in peoples' minds that the game is only 6 months out from release or even a year out from release...They'll want to start out slowly and then gain momentum so as to keep the game fresh in peoples' minds. It's the same concept as a presidential campaign.

According to BioWare themselves, they've been developing their MMO starting "a while before" 2006, when they opened the studio in Austin exclusively for that purpose.

Was that when they opened that studio? Ahh okay.

I tend to agree with this, if you look at the announcements of Dragon Age you can see that Bioware has decided to try not to announce games much until they are nearly ready for release.

aka dragon age will be out spring 2008 they say.
Ehh, I don't know about this...If Dragon Age is the only game where this seems to be their strategy then I really don't see how you can make such a huge assumption...I mean, Mass Effect was the game released before Dragon Age by Bioware and we knew about Mass Effect for at least two years before it came out.

I do not really think that http://www.portfolio.com/ , a FINANCIAL magazine would start fabricate news told to them by the EA CEO just for fun, don't you?
Why would they? what do they know of KOTOR in the first place? Not much I guess, just that it was a good financial success and a good product of Lucasarts/Bioware.
There is no way they would do a major announcement at the faire of a society they just left, now would they? Not a chance. As Lucasarts has the SW license, EA cannot announce if Lucasarts says so, I guess Mr. Riccitiello is having some trouble by George right now.
2. Star Wars: Force Unleashed is due to release in couple months. That is a "modern" Era based game and my guess is all the advertisement and efforts are on that game at the moment. (Do not forget the Clone Wars animated movie releasing in theatre soon as well). So they do not want to muddle the waters with a big announcement of KOTOR MMo as that would just confuse people on what is what.

Because LEC and BW are kinda having one of those "OMFGWTFBBQ WE GOT NOTHING READY WHY DID HE SAY THAT??!!!1111" moments. Stay tuned is my best guess.
