Do you think they will ever make it?

I mean I think it could be semi secessful espcially if they fixed somethings they did wrong with EQII

Considering how many games SOE ist running at the moment (Planetside,SWG,EQ,EQ2,PotBS,MxO,Vanguard..) and the ones they have in development (Agency,Free Realms,...) and the ones they are going to buy along the way... don't see it happening.

I am  pretty sure that what they are still looking for is something to compete with WOW. With EQ2 they were a bit unlucky - the franchise was not popular enough amongts non-MMO gamers, it was somewhat buggy and unfinished at release etc... I could imagine that their next big project will be something either with a very popular franchise or a new approach to the genre alltogether. Probably the former....

    No,

SOE has already stated they are more interested in going the route of games like Free realms and the agency. Free to play with micro transactions.

  • sfwtboysfwtboy Member Posts: 217

Why the hell would they go microtansaction so they can produce crappy games and say hey there free

How the heck should I know?

Have you been following SOE? Freerealms...a free to play that will have microtransactions.

The Agency, not sure if you will need to buy a box but it will also have microtransactions.

SOE isn't the only company going this route in the future. Traditional monthly sub MMO's will become fewer and fewer. Bioware has even voice support for the model.

Besides. SOE's MMO lineup is completely to the last game sub-par junk, I'm surprised they haven't abandon the genre altogether.

I wouldnt say that I think Vangaurd is a very solid game now

EQII is good but could be better

I think the reason they go microtransaction it because they see these people in f2p games pay 100s a month playing them which is soo dumb and I dont see why people spend so much on those crappy games

Micro transaction games have the potential to make a lot of money, and you partially remove yourself from being direct competition with the likes of WoW, which helps, cause quite frankly competiting directly with the market leader is always going to be expensive and unprofitable.

So does that mean EverQuest fans don't have anything more to expect in the MMO genre? Not at all. Smedley told us that they fully intend to do another EverQuest MMO.

"One day in the future, but not sure what point. No one's actually working on it," he said carefully.

would be interesting to see an Everquest 3 would be like... It would have a problem with Everquest and Everquest 2 being different games that it may possibly alienate one of the crowds.. It would probably not be able to rely on sit 'n' grind which is Everquest 1, as with the trend with every mmo now it probably will have instances.., rehashing the same old classes might be pretty dull..

It could potentially be good but it hope it would take a long look at Everquest 1 and draw some inspiration from it's diverse world and it's dungeons and also hire the right artists. Perhaps part of the original charm of Everquest was it's environments and some of it's character models like it's frogloks, kobalds, orcs, gnolls- they all were distinctive and had character.

If they do it won't be called Everquest 3. They regret using Everquest 2 for the last one apparently.

Maybe it will be 'Everquest Free',  the micro-transaction version where the 'Level Up Ding' is replaced by the sound that cash registers in shops used to make.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

I hope they never make Everquest 3 as the original Everquest was made by the developer of Vanguard in tandem with some people from Sony.  EQ2 was made pretty much by Sony and it wasn't as good IMO.  Everquest 3 would also be made completely by Sony so I think it wouldn't be that great either.

As far as microtransactions goes I will stop playing all games as soon as it cost money to buy something that is fake in a game.  Buying items in game caters to the rich even though people will think it's great at first because it's free.  Yeah it's free until you need an item to compete or advance in the game...  They are just preying on human nature IMO.

I believe they will not use the Everquest name again. But i believe they will definately keep a lookout at Bioware and the next Blizz mmo and try to copy their success ( if they are successful) and may come out with another fantasy mmo in future...

But before that i believe they will start to close down those smaller mmo under their belt now...

The world of EQ is a great IP.  I wish they'd sell it to Blizzard and let some pros turn it into a fantastic game.

Imagine an EQ3 with Blizzard's polish and care.

Ugh, why couldn't an Everquest game be done like that?

They said that an EQ3 is very unlikely because EQ2 was a mistake that split and alienated EQ1s userbase.

Ive seen people drop $30 in one day in those Korean item mall MMOs. And they are item mall MMOs where the best thing you can buy is an exp booster, no gear or weapons or anything of that sort.

Item mall MMOs are the clear evolution of the MMORPG. Cheap people like me can play for free and the over achievers can buy all they want without limit. Everyone wins, especially the game's publisher.

Ive played some of those Item Mall games that are free to play. Honestly, they might be good for a month or so while i work out of frustration. But they always seem to end the same way for me, bored as hell and mad at the Gold Sellers. Give me a monthly subscription with full content anyday. Cash Shops may be good for somepeople...just not my style and i tend to stay away from them

Its people like you that will kill the industry Item malls are not an evolution they are absolute crap. Ceap people can play but they will never be able to compete in pvp or do high level things. And the People that pays the most money gets all the best gear and weapons and such. Because they will buy all these cash shop items sell them to players for big $ and buy the best gear with them. and then still have andvantage with boosts they buy from the item mall

It probably was a mistake but they did take alot of the zones from EQ1 and put them into EQ2...... The bad part was EQ2 was always compared to EQ1 and its just not as good of a game...... ALso I dont mind if they make MMOs F2P with micro transactions because they are no temptation for me....... Id be playing for free while someone else pays 10 bucks for their Sword of Uber Slaying.....As for us cheap players not being able to compete most of us really dont care....We play games to have fun not to brag how great we are because we can buy better gear than someone else........

The only thing microtransactions do is give a developer an excuse to put less content in the game.  Why would a developer spend a bunch of time making loot tables when they can just make an Item mall?  Think about PVP? Not if everyone who is PVPing is using their super overpowered item mall weapons.  Microtransactions suck.

with all the lore and background everquest has it would be great to see another everquest game. though i agree calling it everquest 3 would be stupid. I would love to see it called Legacy of Norrath, and have it made more sandboxy along the lines of EVE, skill based, unlawful zones, city building.

If Bioware decides to go the Microtransaction route, I am OUT! If anyone from Bioware is actually here reading (doubtful, but hey) You will LOSE not only myself as a customer, but a number of customers as well. Microtransactions is a scam and a joke... why? Because of exactly this quote "Why the hell would they go microtansaction so they can produce crappy games and say hey there free" That is exactly the reason why I think SOE is going that route, if you look at their games, a lot of them are crap and MANY people don't consider them worth teh $15 a month fee, so they figure if they go the "free" route, then they'll get more people. Sorry, but I'm no sucker! If there's anything that I've been taught, and taught well in life, is that NOTHING is ever free, and I doubt a good/high quality game will ever be made for "free" and believe me, the microtransaction route doesn't help the quality of the game.

  • Daffid011Daffid011 Member UncommonPosts: 7,945

I doubt SOE will ever make another Everquest titled game seeing the sequal is only 20-30% as succesful as the original was.  It is doubtful that they will make another fantasy based game for a long time coming.  There is just to much competition out right now and they have performed well at all.

John Smedley once said in an article that free to play was their goal, because it didn't force people to make a choice each month of resubscribing or not.  SOE has a hard time pulling people in and a harder time keeping boxes of software on the shelf.  Free to play solves many of those problems.  It is smart on paper, but I doubt the games will come out as worthwhile.  Smedley is totally obsessed with the asian markets revenue models, but I doubt he can change westerners mentality about subscriptions.

SOEs problem has always been the money men making decisions that harm their games and with microtransactions they will have now have a bigger role not only in things like release dates and game models, but also game design decisions.

FYI, Bioware's daddy, EA, announced at E3:  Nucleus, an online account and social networking tool built around the EA games, which also helps with microtransaction. Also Sims 2, Battlefield:Heroes and Spore release with microtransactions capability.

    Just sayin'

"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"

Bye SOE games. I'm not playing any micro transaction games, so SOE just dropped off my radar. If they are successful with this model, then good for them, but I'll be looking elsewhere for MMO's.

Really to bad. I would love to see an EQ3.
