The game and the company

lotharrlotharr Member Posts: 981

Out of interest I wanted an update, to check what are people's opinions about these two articles which would seem to bust out a few rumours.

Rumours:

Aventurine is a fake company. Aventurine exists, but is not working on Darkfall.

http://www.womengamers.com/articles/editorials/passion-behind-darkfall-online/

They seem to visit the company and confirm, that Aventurine is indeed working on Darkfall.

Rumours:

Darkfall doesn't exists. Darkfall exists, but it's a single player game with bots used in the videos.

http://www.lordsofdeath.com/www/?p=12

Asp plays Darkfall personally and meets up with Kjetil in the game.

So, what are you opinions on these articles?

    OUTSTANDING!

Let me give you a link to a game preview on even a much more reputable website...

    www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/darkandlight/news.html

..Just because people post previews of a game that make it "look" good and fantastic, doesn't mean it will actually be great.

I also remember some years back buying a PC GAMER magazine for like $8 or whatever just to read their article on "Ultima Online 2".  Oh man, was that a great article and had me excited as hell for the release of UO2.  ...Ultima Online 2 was later canceled and never was released.  And that wasn't "Women Gamers" or "Lords Of Death" or some gay crap.  That was a very reputable "PC Gamer" magazine!

    Whoa, don't get so defensive!

So, you do agree that those articles at least bust out the rumours I list in the OP?

  • MaximumPvPMaximumPvP Member Posts: 30

lotharr, I admit to nothing.  Have you even read that Women Gamers article? They went and saw the offices, expected to see a couple of computers and were impressed by how big it was, blah blah.  Then they sat down and talked about how great the game IDEAS were.  Because of time constraints (or Adventurine purposely not allowing to see the actual game until after they left perhaps, who knows...), the Women Gamers NEVER saw the game in action nor did they play test it.

The other article is impressive.  But is it true? There really are no other user reviews EVER who have tried this game! And why did this loser get to play it but nobody actually important or nobody that's part of an actual reputable game website has got to play test it yet?!?  Why is that?  Doesn't that seem kindof lame and mysterious?

I think the DF doesnt exist stuff is just as far off base as the claims that DF will be a WoW killer and revolutionize gaming as we know it.

But since you brought it up, what is the deal with Asp?  He is the ONE guy that has apparently played the game and been confirmed by the devs as doing so - and he loved it.  So where is he?  The champion of the DF fans, and he has 5 total posts on the DF boards, none since he made his claim.  Doesnt that seem odd?

And final thought was where was the proof that this actually happened, such as some exclusive screenshots for example or a photo showing Asp shaking a Devs hand in greeting [would at least be some evidence showing someone visited a dev sometime].

To the OP, lol.  Serious, who the frack uses CRT's and old crap PC's to develop a next gen mmo? Oh and 20 people....lol again.  By the  looks of that  office I would hazard a guess and say they were coding pacman 4 or either a jihad flight training center imo.

LMFAO.  Good point.  Never really thought about that until you mentioned it.

Those photos from the Women Gamers article of mighty Adventurine Inc. certainly do show those old beige CRTs and one of those pictures certainly has what looks like one of those ancient beige towers under the table hooked up as well !!

    Yikes!

And what's scarier yet is that all of this old beige computer crap from like 1999 will probably be the servers for the game should it ever actually launch!  LMAO.

I bet even "Risk Your Life" was made with more current technology!  HAHAHA!

    Too funny!

Indeed, they went there proved that the place actually exists and showed pictures where people are obviously working on something.

If it's not Darkfall, then what? They've also got people on the payroll. There's another bunch of pictures from the place, where you can clearly see people manipulating different 3D modules and such.

If you believe all that to be a hoax, what kind of a reasoning would they have behind it all?

Because the reputable game sites haven't went there? You know how Aventurine's PR is, it's not like they'd beg for them to come there.

I mostly agree for most of the part. Anyway, Tasos has stated that they've had a few other tourists popping up to their office this summer, I'm not sure what did they show the tourists, but It'd be great to hear something from them.

We need someone like Surly or Red Morgan to visit the office and play the game. But for now, we shall wait for the video.

Indeed, Aventurine is not a huge company. Exactly how did you come to the conclusion that the computers are all sucky? CRTs are still fairly good compared to some LCDs. Then I must assume that with "old crap PC's" you mean they don't have any flashy LED cases on their computers?

From all the videos I have seen to date, I don't think they will need to worry about older computers running the game.

Just check the LoD forums and the people there, if you've never seen them. They've got thousands of threads on the forums, that should prove something.

Considering the payroll question, where would've they gotten the people to the office or Henning Ludvigsen? Off the street?

If you've got no reason why they would actually try to make a hoax, why would you consciously try to soothsay that they are?

Considering the payroll question, where would've they gotten the people to the office or Henning Ludvigsen? Off the street? Who knows no way of knowing. You people try to make things too complicated. If there is "no way of knowing" why won't you just accept for a while that they are actual workers on payroll? If it is proven otherwise, you're free to believe it, but why force something?

That's indeed saying that they're running a hoax.
The videos could be short and the PR bad, but where do you come to the conclusion that they're manufactured (with this I assume you mean that they're made with a 3D program and not actual shots from the game) or bot driven? Someone told you so on these forums?

Its simple, I don't believe in women gamers, they are a myth, its sort of like being told fairies were invited to play DF. Right...like I'm gonna believe that.

Same with ASP/LOD. Who?  Never heard of them, never ran into them in a dozen games, just one of the many nebulous websites of no name guilds out there.

Goons? Yep, I know them.  Ebonlore.....another one I know... but LOD? Another myth.

Doesn't matter anymore, I don't want videos, I don't want screen shots, I want to see the damn login screen on my PC and then I'll concede it exists.

Niether of those article have been proven fake or even slightly refuted.  Yeh the game could end up not coming out,  but this is no 4 guys in a basements jacking themselves off.

Plus 20-30 people is large enough to create an MMO.  I even saw an EQII dev once state that it is the ideal size of a team due to management and waste issues with a larger team.

Ok,i didnt read the replies but i just read in the greek PC MASTER magazine, august issue, that a fest took place in greece with all the greek game devs.Adventurine presented a breathtaking video and said that although they r not so good informing the press, the game will come out this year.

I find it amazing that you guys talk so much shit about this game, yet here you are posting in the forums. Very cool.

I'm sure I'll get labeled a fanboy for this, but at least I'm actually interested in the game and have a reason to be here. Also, yes, CRTs are still very common to see in developement studios, businesses, etc. Also a lot of artists prefer CRTs to LCD screens. I could easily find you a bunch of pictures of high graphics quality games being developed on CRTs.
