Well, maybe you're on to something there, I mean you play MMOs with other people and if you're in a guild you might feel kind of attached to that game. Then if another one comes to threaten it you naturally try to defend it, say it's not as bad or it's better than the new game, etc. Out of all gaming genres, for me personally at least, MMOs keep me playing the longest because if I get bored of the game, I still have the people. /shrug

I don't think WoW can pull itself out of this downhill trend of gear dependancy and PvE, but if they do, I can always check it out again.

A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    "

I won't ever leave PvP Wow for a game with 1/3 of the PVP speeds of Wow.

The PvP videos of Warhammer don't convince me at all."

Not sure how long ago you played WoW but pvp in WoW has been slow paced since 2007 (grats resiliance ruining the game) You also can't base anything off videos. Just watching PvP videos in WoW is very boring (except if they have editing and good music of coarse, but that goes for any game) as well and probably seems just as slow paced if you never played etiher one of them.

    WoW pvp is a joke.

Battlegrounds are lopsided towards whichever side has the most players who are actually trying and aren't going afk. Afk botting in WoW is very frequent because you don't get banned first offensive if you get caught.. you might get suspended for 48-72 hours but you won't get banned. There is only arguably 2 good battlegrounds. (Warsong and Arathi Basin) They also suffer from the same fate as AV (afk botters, people not trying) There are actually GROUPS who que up in WoW specifically to lose to get the marks faster for gear. You also never need to step foot in a battleground again 2-3 weeks after a new pvp season starts.

Arenas are somewhat enjoyable but if you really just wanted to play the game for arenas you could have just about the same experience playing arenas in guild wars. Realistically a lot of people enjoy arenas, but they aren't real pvp. They are just glorified duels with better rewards then any other pvp in the game, that you only need to do for 2-4 hours a week for 2 months to get all the best gear from them, afterwards which from season to season you can take it even slower because the difference between the gear from say seasons 3-4 is very very minor.

World pvp in WoW doesn't exist. It might be there to some small extent (ganked while mining, zergged by 10 people at the towers in terokkar every 6 hours for 10 minutes) Now don't get me wrong, the expansion MIGHT rectify this...for a short period of time. The rewards for world pvp in the expansion are going to be items in the form of drops off bosses from a buff you attain for controlling the pvp zone. So in a month or two after you hit 80 you will have all the gear anyways. It will also make ques longer for the battlegrounds and even if they update the items every PvP season, it will just suffere the same fate as grinding for honor rewards.

The ultimate reason WoW pvp blows is because there is no real reason to do it besides bragging rights and gear. Sure gear is the half of it, but bragging rights shouldn't be the other half. PvP needs to be dynamic and affect everyone in the game world for it to be fun.

WOW PvP is the best there is .

    You see, opinions vary.

World PvP on my PvP server is very much alive and kicking.

Arena is the max and Battlegrounds with premade groups is awesome.

I highly doubt world pvp exists to the extent most of us expect. That being said, Wow's pvp isnt bad but its far from great. And arena's get old fast ....may as well call it macro wars or exploit wars. And most people have no idea how much exploiting goes on in arena's , because most dont even know when it happens.

...maybe Im just tired of a gear treadmill. Dailies and grinding factions just seem like a job more than playing. But the game is good enough to play in spurts, so more than likely Ill eb back when WOTLK comes out If Im not enjoying WAR.

i bought CE for AOC..and the dissapointment whas huge. im buying CE for Warhammer too..

but if war isnt what they have hyped up. than im surly gonna stop playing MMO's, and find some sort of real life alternative.. like playing board games or something..

and im not going back to wow, 3 years of endless Gear grind is more than enough.

  • CynricAlmasyCynricAlmasy Member Posts: 7

completely agree alex, I seem to always get the CE and then am dissappointed but WAR seems to be giving CE an obsurd amount more than other games have to the adopters. As for WoW, games shouldn't last this long - i Know MMOs are their own breed but 4 years is not a short time to be playing one game expansion or not. Course people still play CS.

Ultimately it's up to each individual to decide for themselves when they've had all the fun they can with a system. Then we move onto another system it's that simple I think. (minus the addictions) I've got high hopes for WAR but I know that it's finite too. Still looks like it'll be a blast.

I'm jumping ship for WAR. WoW was good back in its day, but TBC didn't do it any favors and i don't see the new xpack doing any better. Hopefully the younger community will stick with WoW though

Cancelled my WoW sub years ago. Loved the early levels, enjoyed UBRS and the beginnings of MC. Got bored with the nightly raiding.

WAR? Well been in the beta for that for most of this year. Bored with that as well. Why? Quests are just dressed up WoW quests (fedex, kill mobs etc etc). RvR well that was interesting for a bit but soon became boring as well.

Guess MMOs just aren't for me.

Not that this is a bad thing though. There's a ton of games coming out in the next 6-12 months that I'd far rather play than any MMO that's released or in development.

..Stalker: Clear Sky, Tiberium, Spore, Saint's Row 2, Red Alert 3, Fallout 3, Farcry 2, Ghostbusters, CoD5, Left 4 Dead, Mirror's Edge, Prince of Persia, Blood Bowl the list goes on.

Fit in work around that and there's just no time to spend on MMOs.

Love how people always compare anything in new games with WoW... WoW wasn't the first to have quests and wasn't the first to have them in that style. Its these kinda comments that bring up all the crap about clones.

Of course WoW wasn't the first MMO to have quests like this. What comparing it to WoW does is give something that everyone (you'd expect most people here have played WoW) can relate to.

Of course there's similarities between MMOs being developed now and those released in the past. Similarities could be drawn with every other game out there as well. Not to mention books, movies etc..

.... If you don't even play the game anymore since ..... years ago.

And for your info: Wow changed a LOT in these last 12 months. I won't sum up the changes, but you no longer need to raid to get the best gear possible is but one thing.

You CHOOSE now how to play its end game. The long rading itself changed also with the drops of badges and class gear drops. The crafting gives gear up to the later raid instances. The daily quests reduce the grind and the pvp leads up to the best gear possible in pvp combat.

All this WITHOUT ever having to grind for hours on end.

So if you speak out on a game: at least play it.

So your saying that you didnt like WAR because it was just like questing in WoW Id like you to realize what you  said , and look at every MMOG thats come out in the past  8years do you think WoW was the only game that involved questing with killing mobs and  traveling quests If you dont like the questing in WAR I dont know how youve managed to like any MMOG let alone how you stayed to play WoW at all.

War IS a step up from WoW. I get bored with it a lot less quickly... But I still get bored with it. One really fun feature in WAR is the giant group battles you can participate in any time you want.

War is fun, but to me it's not worth the 50$ and the 15$ a month as I get bored with it rather quickly.

Blizzard is one of the best companies in the business and I don't really expect better from an EA subsidiary.

Will it be new and fresh? Probably. Will it be better overall? Probably not.

That is just a little unfair to judge a company based on there parent company. Mythic was making good games before EA picked them up. Mythic isn't on any leashes from EA, if they were the game would have been out before it was delayed..twice.

I might try it if it has a trial later on, but there is no way I'd leave WoW for it - unless it is f'n spectacular, and from what I've seen/read, it is not spectacular (to me that is, some my think it is made of gold, but it is all opinion based)

My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

im not jumping ship....i left a while ago and saw the light that is covered by WoW.....World PVP is WoW is nothing to the extent of daoc was and WAR will be....

THE COMBAT IS NOT SLOW..However it just takes more time to kill a character its not a "3 hits and you are gone game"  it only looks slows because people do not die as fast.

and those who say WAR will get boring because you will be taking keeps and sacking the same city but still raid on WoW....oh please anyone who has played DAoC knows that every keep assult/defense is different and taking a keep with 50 players is a much different experience then with 200 players

I will be War a go....

I have already decided that I will be on the Chaos side,, kind of like the Dark Elves...:)

Whilst playing WOW, I was on the Alliance side,, found the Horde slaying a lot of fun. Alas,, I  play a Night Elf.

Kind of nice to try the Dark side..:)

I will also continue to play WOW in the meantime, for a little while longer, as an insurance if you will,, as many  MMO's not always live up to their expectaions.

But, what am I worrying about,, Thjs is WAR after all,

PVP is for me. and its nice that their is also a PVE side to War too. :)

The Ultimate Failure of WoW PvP

No Massive Objective Based World PvP

The lack of world PvP objectives that actually mean something besides some PvE quest/buff or subpar items in endgame is laughable.  Futhermore, they have packaged all the endgame PvP into 4 BGs and arenas.  This has depleted world PvP together with the lack of world PvP objectives and flying mounts.

Besides ganking and incidental world PvP in the course of levelling or acquiring PvE based objectives, world PvP is a joke.  The main problem was making it item and PvE orientated.

The ONE new PvP zone in WOTLK Lake Wintergrasp will probably be another transient, loot and scoot item grind and has come too little, too late.

Endgame PvP is 4 BGs + Arenas

The lack of expansion of PvP vs PvE is alarming.  All WoW is doing is upgrading items sets without adding any new PvP content.  In so 4 years there are only 4 BGs and Arena as the staple end-game PvP.

Face it, WoW is not a PvP centric game and never will be.  They have made PvP into a casual friendly small circuit, instanced item grindfest.

Arenas were fun when they started but the gladiatorial style of PvP in now way substitutes for true MMO PvP entirely and should not.

WoW makes you play the same 4 BG and arena 2394023948023948240398 times.  The reason being they are too lazy to implement new PvP content and try to draw out their existing content by making people play the same thing a gabazillion times.  This farce continues as more arena seasons roll buy with casual friendly arena gear being handed out like candy.

They have no clue how to tackle or implement good large scale PvP content or add any PvP progression other than item based, and face it WoW isn't built for it either.

    Alas,

Gone are the days of massive keep battles with upwards of 10 guild sieging a castle or keep.

Gone are the days of massive standoffs at takeover points where you see a frontline of massive amounts of people defending and attacking.  Goading each other and trying to find weak spots to charge.

Gone is the realm pride where you coordinated with a ton of other people from different guilds with the same objectives to takeover the enemies key points and achieved it.

Gone is the comraderie that ensues when the horde enemy is nigh and you look at your realm mates next you you as you prepare for the final stand in a small room.

Gone are the tears of joy which erupt when the battle is won versus far superior number by skill, kiting and choke point control.

Bring back the days of ole, where sword over sword and staff over staff ring a hundred man strong along the battlefield.

Where hundreds of arrows whizz overhead as archers line the parapats of the castles and keeps defending them with their bows.

Bring back the days of massive battles, keep sieges and territory control.

Bring back truely massive player versus player combat.

How can you know? how many games have blizzard released after they merged to activision blizzard 3 weeks ago?

EA games isnt more for mythic, than activision blizzard is for blizzard entertainment...
