But yeah, you probably got hacked and were used to spam gold selling in an public channel or broker some gold selling deal, according to that message.  I would send an email and ask.
I wonder about this type of hacking though.  If you don't have an active sub, then the hacker would have had to make it active to use your account, requiring a credit card (with someone else's name and address presumably) or a game card.  If the credit card had a different address and name or the game card was purchased in some foreign land, that should be pretty easy to find out.

Yes, its very strange. They'd have to hack my account, then change the billing info to have my account be payed for by their credit card? It seems improbably. and I cannot even check due to not being able to access the information page.

This is getting annoying. I only mentioned the whole 3rd party answer due to the second post who suspected that might be the reason, there is no other reason why i mentioned that there.

Looks like somebody bought gold and Blizzard finally caught the person they got it from.  Blizzard sometimes collects information for a long time before they issue bans.  I've known people that were banned for things they stopped doing 6 months earlier.  Just because you haven't logged in a long time doesn't mean you weren't already on the list.

First off, I don't appreciate your accusation.

no actually. There isn't anything else to my story. Sorry if I sounded a bit hotheaded but I cannot stand when things like this happen to people who don't deserve it. Especially when it inolves myself. No I have never done anything illegal with my account.

I have not had an active subscription since the free return of the burning crusade which I only played 14 days and had some fun leveling my char a bit. then my time ran out. Now 5 months later when I don't even have an active subscription I get thrown a random ban. There is absolutelly no explaining this.

And no, no one knows my account pass or username...so this is completely bogus.

I don't believe it for a second.  Even it if was true, posting here is just creating drama.  If it is not true, then it's drama^2.

How can anyone know, beyond shadow of any doubt, that Blizzard doesn't do random bannings? When you get banned, they don't reply to emails or phone inquiries about your account. If you make an account to complain on their forums, they close it. Blizzard isn't the squeaky clean top dog everyone thinks it is. Google the name Zarborough sometime and you might see a shady thing or two.

It's possible, but very unlikely.  Over the years I've seen tons of stories like this where the poster starts out by claiming they are completely innocent.  When the full story is heard the person is almost never innocent and they start making excuses.  It's hard to misinterpret logs that show somebody transferring 100K gold to various random players, and things like that.

    1.  Well, I stopped doing that a long time ago...

    2.  I only bought gold once, and it was only because I wanted my mount...

    3.  I only played with the bot for a day...

    4.  My brother bots on his account and logged into mine from his computer...

    5.  I let my friends borrow my account sometimes...

    6.   I only downloaded the macro, I never got it to work correctly...

    7.  etc., etc., etc.

BTW: I've heard rumors of a mini-ban wave going around during the past couple of days for users of one of the bots...

Experience has made me a cynic.

You want the email suport team at Blizzard Tigress.

The phone support won't discuss anything relating to you account closure, only generic PC tech support.

I hope you get a satisfactory resolution from them, but I wouldn't get your hopes up too high.People in your predicament don't usually.

Someone mentioned earlier that they think i Bought gold. When you're playing an MMO, you're already paying the 15$ per month, there is no way as a college student I would ever consider spending more money on fake ingame crap, so no I never bought gold.

These types of things seem to happen to me. 2 years ago I had somone hack into a neopets account I had and spam on the forums. Got my account "Frozen" and I tried everything to get it back, even called, but nothing worked. I have a collection of 12 e-mails from their different staff employees all tell me that "I" broke the rules when I had done absolutely nothing, so I'm not optomistic about getting my WoW account back.

At the moment I'm depressed that this happened mainly because there is no reason for it. I could handle this better if I knew I had done atleast something to deserve it but there is nothing. There are some that do not believe me but I can't blame them because I am a skeptical person too, Heck whenever people tell me their "Ghost stories", 90% of the time I don't believe a word of it. So anyway, in conclusion, I won't ever be comming back to WoW, this is too much of a blow to me with this  unjust action.

    Tigris,

We all pretty much agree that it is unlikely some gold farmer hacked your account, payed for it and then exploited.

You might have been banned for being associated with accounts that have been banned.  If your account used the same credit card as someone elses, same family name, IP address, etc.  If enough of that information adds up and shows a valid association with someone else who was banned, because it looks like it is operated/owned/accessed by someone else who was banned.

I'm not saying Blizzard banned your account because you have the same last name as someone else or simply have the same IP address, but if enough of that information is the same then that would make for a reason to ban your account also.

I would start asking family members and friends if they were banned/hacked recently.

Tigris I would email Blizzard support.

I have a friend in my guild who got that email last week when he hasnt been on his account (or had it active) in nearly 2 years.  He emailed them and they reinstated it.  Funny thing is it prompted him to reactivate it and play again.

I haven't asked him if his account was hacked, I will try and follow up with him on our guild forums.

You do happen to remember a few months or so ago when this very site ( among many others at the time ) was exploited by Chinese hackers looking to obtain WoW accounts via keylogging, do you not? There was also a "virus" attack here a week or two ago which had the same characteristics of the one the hackers used back then ( where a drop down bar would appear at the home page asking you to download a microsoft plugin if you were using IE ). Don't be surprised if Tigris is not the only one finding their account hacked.

So it is indeed possible that the account was hacked, and I would contact Blizzard.

As for everybody coming down on Tigris, he's not some random 1 post wonder coming here to rant, so some common courtesy could be nice.

Wtf?! I havn't logged onto my WoW account since the burning crusade Launched and I've never done ANYTHING illegal with this game. I mean, I don't play anymore so its not a huge blow to me but what if I wanted to come back one day? this is bullsh*t! How do I get accused of hacking without even playing the game? Can I get my account back?

This is why it might seem fishy to some folks, in your 1st post you said "

a few pages over you said "I seriously came here for answers and support. Not ridicule. Please do not twist my words or put words into my mouth. I stated "Somone else used my account and used third party software. Yes THATS what I said. I never said "I" used any. No I have not ever used anything 3rd or 2nd or w/e party thats not part of the WoW client. Please stop putting words in my mouth just to justify this.

Your original post never stated anything about 3rd party software and now out the blue you include it in another post.

So your account getting banned was justified. It doesn't matter if you, your grandma, your sister, your uncle 3 states over put the 3rd party software on your account, its your account your respondsibility. There really is no way you can proove you didn't put 3rd party software on.

A similair thing happened to a close friend, he quit playing WOW almost a year ago but got a notice like yours, in his case it turned out that the notice was fake, it was just a phishing email used to try and get him to click the link and give his account information which like an idiot he did. It took a long time but he eventually got his account back.

Also I want to mention that if you ever used a Guild forums or any kind of forums and your account informations the same as your game account, or you ever sent a Private message to a friend giving your account information then it could be that your account was jacked. It's not difficult to hack a forums site and steal that kind of information.

I once got a 3 day ban because I forgot I told my cousin across the country my pw. He logged in at the same time I did. Ever since then I NEVER let anyone know my pw for anything.

ofcourse Blizzard is never 100% right, no company is it's impossible. This is the reason why EULA's are made so that they can be right even if they are wrong.

OMG you are right!  I can't believe I overlooked that as I got two of those similar emails in my box the other day.  If you look at the link they try to get you to click on it goes to worldofwarcraft.oxsomething.com which is fake.  The email account I post here has been getting lots of WoW spam all of a sudden, even though it is not associated with any of my gaming accounts anywhere.

    Good call 08030.

It doesn't need to be brought here at all. The solution can only be in communication with blizzard. It's just that obvious.

I find it hard to believe your story OP, sorry.  The main reason I say this is because if you were wrongfully banned you'd be taking it up with Blizzard not the forums of MMORPG.com.  You may of done something a long time ago and are now suprised to find that they just now caught up to you, but I don't see them accidentally banning you.  If so then why not write them an appeal?  Hmmm interesting.

To be honest, the only possibility I see here is that your account was hacked.  Either that, or you somehow got caught in a dragnet for other banned activities.  A lot of things can land you in hot water that you might not realize.  Here are a few questions to ask yourself.

Do you use the same account name or password for WoW as other stuff?  Perhaps this site or other MMO sites, many of which have been compromised over the years?  That's one of the big ways that accounts get compromised.

Did you ever visit sites that purported to offer RMT/botting software, for any reason, for any length of time?  For the most part, actual RMT and bot sites are clean, but there are many fakes out there that have no other purpose but to deliver trojans and keyloggers.  That's another big way that accounts get compromised.

Did you ever have any shady sites open while logging into WoW shortly before you stopped playing?  There have been exploits in the past that essentially let sites operate as keyloggers while they're open, simply by you running the flash or activex content on that site.

Did you share your account with anybody else, perhaps members of your family, who may have done something warranting a ban?  I've heard tons of stories of Joe Shmoe being banned because Joe Jr. was botting when he was off at work.

Did you play your account from multiple IP's?  Blizzard really doesn't like it when accounts are shared.  If you routinely login from IP's registered to ISP's from very different geographical locations, it sets off red flags.  This is often a thorn in the side of military personnel who move around a lot or live in Asia.  If that's you, this may be why you were banned.

There are other things that raise red flags for Blizzard.  Did you ever transfer large sums of gold via mail to a character that wasn't part of your own account?  Did you ever do something like buying out dummy auctions on neutral AH for large amounts of gold, to help out a friend's alt on the other faction?

I want to ask the OP a serious question.. what do you expect to come from this thread?

Why would you ask this question on mmorpg.com, these guys arent blizzard tech support. If you feel you were wrongfully banned then open a ticket with blizzard, you can still do that even with an inactive account, unless of course you were doing something illegal, or you gave the account to someone else.

All of that is besides teh point, no one here can help you, so this thread is pointless, it just seems like a blatent attempt to bash blizzard.

I once received an in-game letter from blizz stating that my account may have done something bad (not using those word of course ) and that i would receive an email going more in-depth about my situation.  Well, i never got a ban or even an email.  So, i do think blizz makes mistakes.  Not to worry

For those who missed it, this was most likely a SCAM EMAIL trying to phish for account names and passwords.

Tigris, log onto the worldofwarcraft.com website and log into the account management screen there.  Check your status and your account should be Frozen awaiting a payment option.  If that is the case then everything is fine.
