Edited: the last answer is just supposed to say no! oops
I played the trial just before the game went down, and I liked it alot I plan to play Ryzom when it starts back up and I am already interested in finding a guild too:)
Well if Pheadrea's Tears doesn't come back when the servers come up I'm thinking about restarting it and you are more than welcome to join but it is a Karavan guild.
i played this for a bit about 2 years ago but i stopped coz i got a little frustrated with learning it. Now that i hear its coming back i really want to try it again and put in a good effort
Hey man I'll be in the same boat because I played for like a year and I haven't been able to play now for about that a mount of time! So I'll be almost starting over! But here's a hint for ya get on the uni channel and ask for help. You'd be suprised to see all the help you'll get! The community there is one of the best out there, if not the best.
Should have the options: 1) yes, i am a return player
2) yes, new player
3) yes, if there's a wipe/fresh start server
4) no --
I'd pick 3 - I am not really interested in playing in the mud while a bunch of superhumans do their thing in a used up been-there-done-that world. I know.. boohoo you'd have to start from 0 too. That's the only argument for not doing a wipe, so keep your "oh but the world is already built, a new one would destroy the game" excuses to yourself and admit that you don't want to start from a clean slate.
I simply didn't put that in because as answered in the post directly below yours the vets that will return know all of the best spots for leveling and also all you have to do is ask for a team and vets will help you even if your are attacking mobs over your skill level and you'll level fast enough! I remember meeting up with a couple of players from Kara Via guild and they took me out with them and hooked me up with Exp crystals and let in their hunting party! They were hunting mobs like 10 to 20 lvls above my skill levels and I put on like 20 skill levels that evening in like 3 or 4 hrs! BTW thanks Kali and Nayari you two rock!

You seems not reading the posts at all. I think, wanting to be one of the first means you really don't know the game, or if you played it, you missed the whole point.
There are no superhumans in Ryzom, just homins that can die very fast even with some master in their pocket, if they don't take care.
Ryzom is mainly knowledge and experience, so even with a fresh start, you'll end up in a place full of experienced homins that will outlevel you fast.
Unless you group with them that would be absolutely the same without a wipe, because of the huge skill tree.
But speaking of levels in a skill based sandbox game is totally wrong.
If you had greater knowledge of the community, you would believe most of us don't care of the wipe.
The real point is how the new owners are going to develop Ryzom, not the wipe.

Funny to see that you use the same argument in two different threads, while on the first one Katirel was so nice to post a link to a very adequate answer to your assumptions, I´ll refrain from it here and will just link back to your first post www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/187740/page/6

Ryzom, we dare to be different. Do you dare to adapt?
yes I will be returning to Ryzom, in the last year I have played many mmo's but nothing matches Ryzom, there are no other sandbox games out there with the diversity that this game has.
I am looking foward to once again setting foot upon Atys.

Simple and true, no game I have tried, and I've tried nearly every single game listed here. Has been able to fulfill me in the way ryzom has. Allowing me the freedom to do what I want, when I want, but not being able to be so uber that I don't ever need to join a team. The community is amazing, incredibly helpful and supportive to all new players. Even now so many of the community stay in touch and they are kind to one another. Amazing after so long how many people are looking to just see eachothers avatars again. To me that is the entire point of an online game. To play and have fun with other people. Seems most other games out there are more concerned with, how uber can I get, so I can feel like a big boy. Ryzom was always about community, alliances and working together, something every other game I have tried has severly lacked. That aspect alone will pull me in, and keep me, even if a game was completely horribly designed, as a bonus it's an amazing game .

I sound like a broken record because it appears that no matter how many times I say it, you guys always say something that translates to "stfu and do it our way or go away". So I say thats fine, hang on to your ancient history if you want, and put up a new shard for people who don't care for your history and want a new one. Broken record. If we're lucky the character databases will be toast and everyone will have to start from scratch anyway :]
Especially considering there was only a brief reply to a brief comment I made in that thread you linked to, which says "dude the community is great", to sum up, by devildog1, which did not address my post's point.
Anyway I am not standing there behind you with a charged AMP pointed at your head, now am I? Kindly refrain from replying if you feel that doing so would waste your time, and problem solved :]

I do not really understand the appeal a server wipe would have. Though to each his own . To me a game that has had two near deaths is miracle event. Though as a player looking from the outside on the game I would be very hesitant to play it. Especially if I heard they wiped all character data. People work hard to meet people, level up, form alliances ect. To have that all wiped away, would severly deter me from evening trying a game as a new player. I would feel my work would be pointless. Everyone plays for there own reasons, to meet people, to level up high and try and become the best, to make and develop guilds, PVP. To me a server wipe would really kill all those things. Pvp would be ran by a small group of people who leveled the fastest, and would be like that for months till other more casual players could catch up. People wouldn't have the ability to help one another as well as they do currently, because of the need to improve themselves first to make things better. Alliances would be shattered because as with any game people work to bolster themselves and there friends first before branching out. It just seems like a bad idea all around. Not saying it's a wrong idea, it just seems to carry to many negatives for me.
I only have one gripe about Ryzom, and it's a sticky one, especially with the old timers. The game has come to deaths' door twice already in fairly short timespans of each other, and the biggest reason has been money because of low subs and few new ones.
One thing they need to do is actively promote the damn game this time. Word of mouth just does not cut it. This however is not the sticky part.
The sticky part is, whether the old timers like it or not, changes are going to have to be implemented for Ryzom to have a real chance of success this time. This means the dreaded word: quests.
Ryzom is a sandbox, and a great one at that. But there is also little variety in what you can do in terms of defined content. You can harvest and craft, and kill animals to get parts for crafting and to level your skills. You can team up and just go hunting. But that's about it. Even a sandbox needs to have some sort of direction at times, especially for those who are not used to a sandbox world.
How many times did we watch new people come in and love the trial ( which is heavily quest driven ) , sign up, and be gone the next month because the real gameplay does not match what is in the trial? People play the trial, do quest for their items, armor, fame, and whatnot; then get to the mainland and are told "Go hunting, go explore."
There need to be questlines to get a real population going, and there also needs to be a return to regular ingame events. Now, these quests do not have to give uber stuff. Just a good story line with some fame for completing the quest or maybe a decent piece of armor or a weapon, nothing valuable or taking away from the crafting focus. Maybe some xp for different skill areas depending on the quest. Maybe some little trinkets or house items. Just basically something that adds some variety so that when you tire of hunting or harvesting, you have a viable alternative to keep you playing.
This was touched on when Gameforge was the owner and there was a really good thread about it in the official forums. What I got from it is that generally people were okay with quests, as long as they fit Ryzom and did not give any 'uber' rewards and took away from the crafting economy or have mobs give phat lewt and introduce greed to the economy and also destroying some of the social aspect present in Ryzom.
Other then that I can't say I'd be opposed to the introduction of quests, I kinda thought Gameforge was going to introduce some, there was a welcomer on the mainland in each of the cities I believe. But it's all a bit hazy.. ^_^ If I made a mistake or inferred too much someone can correct me.
There really are a ton of quests, though they only reward you with fame, which doesn't have too many benefits to make questing in ryzom sought after. If you added some light exp, money, or maybe better rewards for having high fame with civilizations or factions, some kind of special items, abilities, or crafting plans (nothing too uber).
There are some quest chains that reward things like this,
but far to few to have people mass questing. I think for a start, finishing implementing all the the encyclopedia quests they had planned for skill, craft plans, perminent hp+50 type things would provide alot of gamers who like questing with something to do. They could give rewards for the quests like the event stuff, the items that let you use run speed, invulerability ect,
(I finally started posting on mmorpg.com, yay for ryzom getting me inspired again lol)
I have a question on the whole "hunting" thing. Is this like "hunting" as in the old EQ style play back when maybe Kunark was the only expansion (thats when I got into EQ) and you did a few quests but most of your experience came from just killing things around you?
MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.
i just heard about this game today, and it sounds amazing. how do i play? i hear the servers are down, is this true? if so when will they be up for DL?
Stay tuned.... I don't think an announcement has been made for when the billing system will come back and the servers are open for the general public, I don't suppose it will really be too long. To be safe I'd check back every 3 days or once a week.

The servers are up but, actually, only the ViP access mentioned by the team in the latest news, is allowed.
It will not be too long when the game will be fully reopened to the general public.
