The Real Reason AoC has many many bugs

The reason AoC was rushed and has many bugs is because the players, before AoC was released everyone had so much Hype for the game and kept complaining about its release date if no one complained the game might of been tested a bit more and youd have a better game, more content, Drunken Brawling, and other stuff.

i couldn't disagree with you more. funcom doesn't listen to the people now, so i seriously doubt they listened to the people then.

Now I know for a fact that they focused too much on PvE content and not enough on PvP.  Why? Because there should have been more like 45 PvE levels, and Tortage was perfect! ok so that leaves levels 20-45 to concentrate and mush all that content into those levels.  People would be satisfied, the rest should have been fixing bugs, fixing performance issues, and focusing on PvP content, and better concepts than just the highlight which was Guild vs Guild seiging, yeah I can do that in halo 3

So as long as no one plays the game, it has no bugs?

Does a tree falling in the woods make a sound if no one is there to hear it?

Oh, wait, your point is that they released it too early and completely bug-ridden with no features because players wanted it

That's... really not how things work. They likely released it because they needed a return on their investment / were running out of cash / needed a quick buck before folding like a cheap garden chair sat on by John Candy

I seriously hope you're kidding/trolling, otherwise I seriously hope you're sterile. Blaming fans and beta testers for the poor state of the game is about as ignorant an accusation as one can make.

I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.

Im not blaming anyone its just a lot of people were really hyped and wanted the game to come out early, but the new Content can be found here

    http://funcom.cachefly.net/WebFiles/Newsletter/Issue17/#top

Which means theyre improving the game and its not so bad.

"Edit" They really cant be out of money if they added some new things a week after launch

Yeah, it's the players and beta testers that screwed up Age of Conan. Funcom and their investors had nothing to do with it releasing early.

One small step closer to the truth here... players were HYPED (by FC)- not hypING...(the game themselves)... makes a world of difference :)

That's true, they did promise things, Battlekeeps, Drunk Brawling and other content which they did NOT include at launch but they are putting in now like I always say "Better Late Than Never"

    Never better late.

I disagree about pointing the finger at testers. New game releases are on the horizon and as they approach, we'll see if the reaction of the MMO community towards AOC is acknowledged by game developers, management & gaming review writers.

Hopefully, the Funcom/AOC model is studied and the philosophy of this genre's Company practices change.

The reason why AoC was rushed with many bugs is because WAR is coming out soon.

    That all.

  • XenosaiyanXenosaiyan Member Posts: 215

that makes perfect sense, but we will have to check with the future and see what's going to happen to funcom in the first place

LOl this is a funky thread, I wish the community had such an impact on a company, im sure most games would actually not release on their scheduled date, I have been on ALOT of beta tests/ Closed beta and the trend is towards release the players are usually screaming "This is buggy needs more testing!" .

This reason is complete and utter nonsense.

You are suggesting that the directors sat down and said to themselves:

"the game is not ready and has a lot of bugs but people are complaining about the release date so we better release it now"

What would have been the impact if they did not? A few people would get fed up,

and then do what? Go back to their old game, as nothing else was released at the time. It was not as if there was any competition at the time of release!

The reason it has so many bugs is because it has a poor design and implementation. (lazy programers taking short cuts instead of re-designing there code from AO)

Not enough testing. There were so many basic things that were not tested.

And the reason they released when they did was because they wanted to release during a quite time (ie before other major releases this year) and i guess due to financial constraints.

AoC is crap. We got scammed into buying a half finished (i use the trerm lightly) game that only had the first 20 levels mostly complete after being released 2 years late.

On top of that they removed features quietly just before launch and then again just after launch because of the all the stability issues. Add to that the fact they had a p2p beta (had to have a File planet acocunt) that lasted 7 days and was limited to Tortage the only close to complete section of the game.

They knew if people saw what the game was really like they would have never bought the POS.

That might be true but I would say it another way.  There was so much hype that Funcom arrogantly believed they could feed people shit, call it Fois Gras and people would lap it up and smile and ask for more.

Afterall that worked pretty well for a year or so of hype.  Frankly I was amazed at how many people just lapped up obviously flaws or problematic ideas, many of which have been tried before, and funcom just just these things are awesome and will solve whatever problem you have.  And when confonted with history or or argument they just put up another "feature" as the solution rather than actually saying why a particular feature was good.

The whole thing was a house of cards.  Funcom big mistake is that while you can fool people when its a nebulous concept very few people are stupid or neurotic enough to continue in that vein when actually experiencing the real thing.  They may not know exactly what or why but they figure it out, pretty much and turn against it.

Well frankly Funcom is not great at computer development.  AO shows that and they reused the AO engine for AoC.

Maintaining the code of the AO engine is probably a nightmare.
