Just in time for WAR's release.
Read more here.
I found this to be so ridiculous (and coming from a BIG WoW fan) that I'm really hoping that WAR blows my socks off so I don't become inclined to come back to WoW.
I never thought I'd live to see the day that Blizzard would react in such a way because of a MMO's upcoming release and they're doing so by allowing a referral based 'powerlevelling bonus' for new and old (new/alt) characters alike. The zhevra? Pffhhhh! They'll be a few riding them around and then they'll be long forgotten like the Hyppogryph and a few of the other rep/honor based mounts.
I think this move is blatant and a clear indication that a MMO is on the horizon and it carries with it a threat that cannot be ignored.
If anyone is wanting to start and wants to take up on this offer, drop me a line at pad472@gmail.com.
(EU Realms)
I am thinking we will be seeing new "speed leveling" records.
except it will be "Fastest time to level TWO characters to 60, and one alt to 30"
probably end up around 3 days.
3x quest exp is rediculous
we are going to see thousands of people buying 2nd accounts just so they can get a zhevra on their main. it doesn't say the new acct needs BC, so it'll only cost what? orignal + 2months? thats $100? people pay far more for in game items all the time.
yep... I'd almost bet money that more zhevras will be obtained this way than actually getting a new person to start the game... almost.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
Less than that actually....

and you're right..they'll be drowning in Zhevras....I'm just glad I won't be there when the herd pulls in.

Actually, this was announced YESTERDAY. You know, before the WAR beta was announced.
Sadly, I wouldn't be surpised if they decide to announce the release date of WotLK right around Sept 18th.
Yet another sad attempt by Blizzard to resurrect its dying cartoon er I mean game....This announcement just proves further that WOW's subscriber base has been dwindling away and drying up like a desert.
lol are you serious? WoW recently launched in several Latin American countries and they even need to launch officially in Russia. They also currently got 10.9 million players, so they're close the 11 million milestone.
And to be honest, all those people that think WAR is going to crush WoW are stupid. Sure WAR will have some success(I really hope it does) but WoW will still has a large subscribers base. People said the same with AoC, that it would defeat WoW and look what's happening.... lots of people are already returning and that game was supposed to hurt WoW. It hardly made a dent! And that wasn't some newbie company, but a developer with previous experiences.
Everybody is so fixated on WoW numbers, i mean if WAR was going bad and it would get 300-500k subscribers, it would still be a money making game. before WoW MMORPGs only reach 100-200k at most and they where successfull. Now everyone thinks you need to get at least a million players to survive

HAHA! I don't know what server YOU are on (mine has new subscribers still EVERY day), or even if you've ever even PLAYED WoW, or if you're just some bitter EX-WoW player that got bored because they lacked the creativity in their own mind to carve out a place for themselves in the game world.....BUT......WoW's subscriber base is NOT "dwindling away." Yes, they have had rises and falls in subscribers. Name ONE game that hasn't had THAT and while you're at it.....name another MMO with that many paying subscribers PERIOD. Activision Blizzard is STILL owning the MMO market. So....whatever. LOL
I too hope WAR will be the "Savior of the MMO Genre" like some fan boys seem to think, but I remember all the recent hype about AoC too (just as another poster stated), and frankly.....it failed to deliver.
I will never understand WHY it is, that some people just REFUSE to accept that WoW is a history-making, amazing game of our time, and that it may very well continue along those lines for a long time yet to come. How EXACTLY does that threaten so many of the naysayers? You'd think the way you all wish doom and disaster on the game, that you were private investors in some other game company. But I doubt that. I think most of the "doomsayers" are just kids that like to sound like they know something and are ever so tech-savvy and pretending to be "gaming experts" of all sorts. I mean...you don't want anyone to think you're a n00b....ROFL.
Just grow up. Good grief. Play whatever game you like. No one is handcuffing you to WoW.....so why all the ridiculous sounding bitterness??
LOL

Im not a WAR supporter either. Actually WAR is WOW with slightly better graphics. My point is about "Recruit a Friend" if their sub base is so high there would be no need to do this, its just a desperate attempt to recover the loss they are now suffering...
Ok from a Warcraft fan , after almost 4 years . This is for me the last bad news i will ever take from Blizz /warcraft . Wow in the past 2 years .. destroy the game for me . Faster leveling again and super transportation so it all become easyer . You want a new mount ? buy it ? its fast no need try for it .
Your wow world use to be a place you want to defend , and to do so gear up . now you gear-up in 2 weeks losing bgs ( alliances side ) with 40 players you will never see again .
There is no atmosphere left in game . From the errors in Burning crusade and from drums of war patch .
If you feel like bashing ? dont worry i was just like you , I was going to the guns for Wow . But now all is left of one of the greatess game of all time , Is a pathetic feeling of the selling tv channel when i log in . I have one sentence rolling in my head .
* Mom i want it now! not later * i guest the crying kids got what they wanted , somebody need a super Nanny .

@woody1974:
There's a new intending-to-be-heavyweight contender about to stomp its way into the MMO scene and you expect any less from any business-savvy company? If so, you have no idea how the whole "business thing" works. They're in it to make money, they're exceptionally good at it and that's really all there is to it. They're not attempting to "cover losses;" they're "covering their bases." There's nothing desperate about it.
In short: it's called "intelligent marketing and business-sense." Blizz has a proven track-record of building up its player-base numbers on a continuous basis - there's a reason WoW is the scale that everything else aspires towards or measures itself by and that's the whole "almost 11 million subscribers and a globally expanding market" thing. This is just another step on the way to keeping their game racking in copious amounts of revenue in the face of opposition (and by opposition, I mean WAR - in the short-term, anyway; AoC managed to royally screw their own pooch with all their underhanded nonsense and is nowhere even remotely close to a threat, any more). For a business, that's the bottom line, though, isn't it? Profit - and plenty of it.
As for the triple-xp thing: I can't say I'm surprised by it nor do I think I'll mind it (to each their own, yadda yadda). From a far-too-frequently server-hopped-to-follow-friends point of view, there is nothing I find more mind-numbing than joining friends on another server just to have to slog through those first 60+ levels again, if I have to do it on my own, even with - if I'm lucky - an occasional instance boost/powerlevel-run for shiny new equipment (that beats the frequently badly itemised quest rewards) and that all-important extra xp. I altaholically capped my character-limits on both sides of the Pond, long ago, and have more 70s (that I now don't play because people moved on) than I'd like to admit to.... but just because I know how to level a character to 70 in a couple of weeks, or so, doesn't mean I want to do it (really quick way to burn yourself out, for one), nor would I want my friends-who-want-to-join-me-at-endgame-right-now to have to do it, either (if they didn't want to).
For a "recruit-a-friend" drive, the x3 bonus makes perfect sense... and even if I do think people will "abuse" the system to gain the new mounts, it's their money, right? If they want to spend that much on Virtual Shinies, who are we to be bothered or offended by it? You spend your shinies on beer or TCGs; someone else spends their parents' shinies on temporary, whimsical abilities for their Korean grindfest of choice; I spend mine on games, munchies and my SO; these new people will spend it on a zhevra mount. Who cares?
Besides, I think a zhevra mount sounds kinda cool. :P Now... back under that bridge of yours...
Ah, what sensationally bad timing.
Let's hope that Wow's subscriber figures take a huge dip on release of WAR. And stay that way.
Down with easy mode!
Proud Master CH -
Sorry,
Proud FORMER Master CH...
my toon was untimely converted into something more Star Warsy
Yet another of the many embittered gamers wishing doom and gloom on a gaming company. WoW isn't going away ANY time soon. As a matter of fact, they keep expanding their worldwide market and at least the two servers I play on....have new subscribers DAILY.
Incidentally, some people actually have LIVES and don't mind "easy mode" on some things. If you're an adult with a full time JOB (yeah...I said that dirty word "job") perhaps you don't have TIME to do everything on "hard mode." That certainly doesn't mean you don't have the right to enjoy gaming as your hobby, just as much as the 12 year old next door, or the 30 year old that lives in Mommy and Daddy's basement. Please. You probably have MORE of a right to enjoy your hobby being that YOU are the one working to PAY for it.
There will always BE multiple games for multiple types of personalities and lifestyles. WoW has carved out a very SIZEABLE niche for itself. If you want, for some obscure reason, to see Activision Blizzard and the Warcraft franchise "wiped off the gaming map"....it's going to take a LOT more than yet another MMO release, regardless of how "uber" that new game IS.
I find it hysterically funny how before each new potentially "WoW-stomping" game is released, people come on the boards and proclaim how much "such and so" game is going to "kick WoW's ass." Then months later people come back bemoaning how crappy the new game REALLY is.
Now....I DO think Warhammer will be a wonderful game, unlike some of the newer games that have been released spouting off promises they cannot keep. Everything about WAR sounds almost perfect. That being said...only TIME will tell. And if Warhammer does happen to be hugely successful, that also DOESN'T mean it's going to kick WoW out of the market. ROFL People act like there can only be ONE successful MMO at a time. That's terribly naive. I wish children wouldn't post on these threads as though they're some sort of gaming experts proclaiming the imminent demise of all but their "flavor of the month" games. It makes you appear really ignorant, and frankly, quite "n00bish."

Sorry you guys feel the way you do, but I feel sad for you. This scenario reminds me of people who have been in prison too many years, they forget what it is like on the outside because they have been on the inside too long. The game is dead and the expansion will proove it even more on top of the "Recruit a Friend" which is a desperate attempt to recover from the low sub numbers...You can twist it however you want, you can call it intelligent marketing, but intelligent businesses who make millions of dollars don't change their success formula if there isn't a problem.
Now on to the expansion. The WOTLK will be yet another race to lvl 80, which most will be within a week if that. Then you will have nothing but DK's running around the server, and it will be right back PVP grinding and waiting another 3 years for an expansion to come, funny thing is EQ did the same thing, just kept releasing little expansion packs every so many years and they still have subscibers to this day.
I never said I wasn't going to TRY Warhammer, now did I? You're accusing me and another poster, in particular, I think, with your "people who have been in prison too many years, they forget what it is like on the outside" theory. Well, Mr. Pius Proclaimer of the Death of WoW, I bet you wish you were making as much money as Blizzard is. LOL
I've never stated, in ANY post, that WoW was the best game ever and always would be. I HAVE stated, however, that there can be more than ONE successful MMO, as there are MANY different personalities of people and YOU, nor anyone else, is the Great Game God that determines that all must FLOCK to only ONE MMO.
I have active subscriptions, by the way, to not only WoW, but EQ2, EVE, and several F2P games, such as Perfect World. I have not "been in prison" at ALL. I play what I enjoy. I have no imagined "loyalty" to any game company. I am not a fanboy or fangirl of Blizzard. I'm merely stating a FACT.
FACT: There are many different personalities of gamers. There does not have to be just ONE hugely successful MMO. There are PLENTY of gamers to make NUMEROUS companies vastly successful.
I HOPE that Warhammer will prove to be all it's hyped up to be. That will only mean I have one more GREAT game to play. But it certainly doesn't mean "the death of WoW." And if WoW is "dead", as you say, then why are there STILL new subscribers every day?? A dip in the subscriber base is NOT the death of a game. NOR is millions of people STARTING a new game, a guarantee of success for said new game. Games have to stand the test of TIME. WAR hasn't been able to do that yet....it's not even released. So I am unwilling to proclaim it as "The Game to End All Games."
Frankly, I feel sorry for YOU. Don't feel sorry for me. I'm open-minded enough to try any game. I'm intelligent enough to not pretend to know the success cycles of games before they're released, or even AFTER the fact. Time is the ONLY thing to prove a game's "durability."

1st. LOL uhhh what? Anyways its ok to feel the way you do.
2nd. Whos Frank?
3rd. What does anything you said above have anything to do with WOW's Recruit A Friend Thread.
Im not comparing WOW to anything, but you are. I stated that the Recruit a Friend theme is merely a desperate attempt to recover from WOW's subscriber decline. I won't re-type what I said.
It's ok I understand some of us live in denial, cept me of course.
@woody1974:
Oh yes....everyone in the gaming world is in denial but you. /rollseyes
The point I was trying to make, is that you are not the Game God. YOU do not determine what games are "dying" and which ones get to "live." You're making ignorant generalizations about not only World of Warcraft, but making assumptions about Warhammer, which is a completely unknown denominator at this time.
What my post has to do with the "Recruit-A-Friend" thread, is that it was a response to YOUR post proclaiming the "death of WoW" and that the "recruit a friend" promo is "a desperate attempt to save a dying game," or some crap like that. LMAO That's what you DO in threads, you know, each post is generally a response to another post, usually about the same topic..... O.o Hello?
Anyway, you're entitled to your opinion, even if it's skewed and not based on a solid foundation of fact.
Personally, (yeah, I didn't say "frankly" this time) I think there's plenty of room for more than one great MMO. I'd really like to see.....oh....maybe TEN great MMOs so that there was something suitable for everyone's unique personality to enjoy and we'd all have more CHOICES. But apparently, you and many others, seem to think that there's only room in the gaming world for ONE successful MMO.
/slaps forehead
Nevermind....YOU don't understand what I'm saying, obviously, so there's no use in repeating it all again and again.
Suffice it to say....I think you're wrong. WoW will continue on and perhaps we'll get lucky and Warhammer WILL actually be awesome and then I'll have even MORE games to give my subscription dollars to. That would be a win/win situation.
President of The Marvelously Meowhead Fan Club
Imho, this is a cheap asian-mall type 'upgrade' to the recruit a friend program.
I never thought Blizzard would add something to their game that could be classed as 'unfair' to other players. It really isn't that unfair but the premise is still there.
As a WoW player, I think this decision is a cheap way of getting more people playing, cheap because it's going to work and it's going to work well.
I for one do not want to see Blizzard reign the MMO scene for too much longer, they never innovate and they love to milk people for cash (including me of course).
If WAR fails, I will be left with no choice but to play WoW some more with my friends and I really am going to hate doing that for another year or so. You might think if I hate it, why do it? Well it's really simple, I enjoy MMO's, but I hate the way WoW has been handled like a cash cow.
WoW fans should in all honesty be hoping for WARs success (like I am), think of how good it would be if Blizzard got knocked off their title (at least in the US/AUS), they would immediately start adding things to the game, maybe some good NEW things for players to do. If WoW had competition the MMO scene would be a hell lot greater imo.

O M G. Obviously none of you have ever played a Sony Online Entertainment game. You think Blizzard has handled WoW like a cash cow? You think they're milking money from the players? ROFL I suggest you subscribe to Everquest 2 and play that for a while and see what MILKING really is.
I think everyone has been SPOILED by Blizzard, to be honest. You have a complaint? A GM is with you within no time. Try that over in EQ2. Takes days or weeks to get a GM to address any problems. You complain WoW doesn't have enough new stuff added? Try playing EQ2 and having a new freaking expansion every few months that you have to PAY for, that is really no more than what Blizzard puts in a PATCH that you get for free. Not only do you get these constant "expansions" there are also "adventure packs" that are tiny little additions of a few new quests in certain isolated areas. You have to buy THOSE too! How would you like to have to PAY for every patch? How would you like to have to have PAID for the few extra quests in that tiny little town in Dustwallow Marsh that was added? If you like that....you can surely go play EQ2. LOTS of "new" content that you have to pay for....EVERY.....SINGLE....TIME.
I think the "let's bitch about WoW brigade" comes running and whining in forums EVERY time a new MMO is about to be released. Here's a fix to your problems: STOP PAYING BLIZZARD if you don't like what they're doing. JUST CANCEL YOUR SUBSCRIPTION. There ya go. Problem solved. If people would whine and complain less and talk with their pocketbooks.....eventually....changes would occur. But ALMOST every time I hear someone complaining about WoW, it's followed by, "Well I still play it. I'm just waiting for such and so game to be released." O.O The voice of addiction, I guess, but to me....it really doesn't make any sense.
Just an FYI....I pre-ordered Warhammer from GoGamer yesterday. Why? Well...it's not because I have stopped enjoying WoW. If I didn't enjoy WoW, I would stop paying for it. It's because I want to see what WAR is like. I want to give it a real chance to shine. I don't think the games sound like they're much of anything LIKE each other, with the exception that they're both MMOs. And what on EARTH is wrong with.....wait for it.....
Playing TWO MMOs! ZOMG!!! Why does everyone act like you have to side with one or the other? Why not have TWO games that you can play and enjoy? Sure sure....that would mean you'd have to divide your spare time between two virtual universes, two guilds, two unique adventures. THAT sounds like gamer heaven to ME. I mean seriously. Is 15 dollars a month SO cost prohibitive that most gamers can't EASILY subscribe to more than one? O.o
I guess with all my posts on here, I'm basically making the SAME point....
The games are likely VERY different "animals," so to speak. Is there some REASON that gamers feel like there can only be ONE "MMO God of the VIrtual World?" Why are we strapping ourselves into such a LACK of freedom? Most of us act like we have to make some definitive and permanent CHOICE that will alter the face of gaming. I think it would alter the face of gaming MORE if we have MORE than one amazing MMO to enjoy. But....apparently I'm alone in thinking this way.
