Mistakes can happen, I work for my ISP that has a few million people. Mistakes do happen and they are rectified and refunded back to the credit card.
Until there is a response from billing support that the two people who say they got shafted can put up then I find it hard to say its true.
Actually, my 4 other friends got it as well. I wouldn't call something this big a mistake. And if you try to change the date on my account records I have my credit-card billing showing the following day being billed.
i have no interest in "changing dates" when was your billing date, and when did you submit your cancellation notice? Like I said if it was close to it, then you will still be billed, so when you see a charge like you have and your "4" friends did, email funcom to get the transaction reversed.

I love how the more an MMO seemingly tanks, the more threads we see like this of credit card scam. Happens every single time. One guy has a mistake with billing and now here we are, a lame multi-page thread.
Ok everyone we have been very tolerant of this till now. Counting that we have a new MMO just around the corner launching and another that has taken a bad taste for some of our members we are very happy with your continued efforts to follow our RoC (Rules of Conduct) very well. Let's keep it up so this will never need to be done again. Ok people?
i remember when SOE released some news about how gold farmer sites were using other peoples credit cards to purchase accounts and or game time. of course the owners of the original credit cards would request a charge back. the CC companies obviously would get their money back and this was costing SOE alot of money. you see, with funcom they dont have the luxury of paying out all this cash for these over charges they are doing. so when the CC companies or banks do go after them where do you think they will be getting this money from? bad news for funcom.
normally this is something every company wants to make sure doesnt happen. there usually are safeguards in effect to protect them as much as possible from these sort of exploits. the thing is, funcom is like those gold farmer sites. they are basically shooting themselves in the foot so to speak.
this is the way i see it, dont know if you'll agree or not:
game company gives your billing info in advance to the bank. ---> root of the problem, how "in advance" probably depends on the company and i think it is written in the fine prints somewhere. it is ugly but it is the way it is. instead of solving the problem at this stage banks and companies seek solution at the final stage that is after the unjust transaction happens and you file a report. if you are lazy and say "hell its just 15 bucks" they get extra 15, if you do file a report, they give you your money back. im sure they have a legid reasoning behind this which protects the banks&companies.
you cancel subscription but dont delete cc info ---> your bad, you should have known better. good lesson for 15 bucks though.
you get charged. -----> sh.t happens
you call game support, inform them, both bank and company. No responce ----> they are in trouble if you can prove&pursue.
you call game support, inform them, both bank and company. late responce/ slow process ----> you learn who you are dealing with, how much you are valued as a customer, big respected companies try to avoid this because in the long run we all maybe dead but companies and their reputition live.
so to give the title a response yes its a scam, yes do watch out, no its not Funcoms they just a player.

you are a funny character to say the least. these people were being charged a week or so in advance of their sub running out. SOE says not to cancel on the day of and to do so well in advance of the last day which i have done countless times with SOE on the 29th or 30th day depending on the month and never was charged. so please stop trying to protect your family with lie after lie. these people are trying to scam every cent possible and dont you worry every cent is being watched and where it goes is just making things much worse then they even know. they can scam the players for all they want but mark my words gaute is digging a hole that even a helicopter couldnt fly out of.
its only a matter of time. oh and may i suggest you use a proxy or something cause its quite funny being in the position to link different forum accounts to the same IP. just some friendly advice. in a small way yet still an illegal way you are participationg in de-frauding people and so are just as guilty. if i were you i would just find another game and play it. or at least play aoc all you want but stop how you go about lieing and manipulating people. you are just joining gaute and many others in this hole. i dont know how much better i could explain this too you without losing my job. you will not find better advice at this point.
Its obvious you have an agenda of hate towards me, I seriously have no idea what your smoking. If you are insinuating I am doing something wrong then bring it forward - i have reported you as it is against the terms and conditions for this site fyi.
Please dont make baseless threats either. I am happy playing AoC with many thousands of people and no matter your threats or factless acusations can do nothing to change my mind - I do what I want when I want you are not my mother nor my wife.
Just to let you know I work for my ISP too...
Seriously guys. You need to learn to ignore people like this. To me it seems he is trying hes best to start a arguement so it all flares up so this thread can get locked.
And Avery who gives you the right to call people Skitzo? Do you know what a Skitzo is? Google it. Taking the piss out of people is not funny. You need to get a life if you have one. I think it's you that needs to stop telling people what to do because. It's there life they do what they want to do when they want to do it your not there mother, father or wife.
This thread was actually just asking for clarifications and getting more detail on what happened before Avery jumped into it and started a flame war
Your idea that he jumped into the thread to get it locked is interesting, but he's allowed to express any view he likes here, which is the way it should be

No doubt he is allowed to express what his feelings are, but have noticed when others try and do the same he enters the converstion and a flame war starts up.
Just because people have legitimate grievances with Funcom about aspects of the game, that doesn't mean it is valid to extrapolate them into rampant paranoia.
This isn't a 'Credit Card Scam', it is just good old fashioned incompetence. I agree totally that a card shouldn't be billed a week in advance or that an account shouldn't be charged after it has been cancelled well in advance, but these sorts of errors occur everywhere.
Whenever companies make errors in billing, the natural reaction is to accuse them of doing it on purpose because not everyone bothers to claim the money back, but unless you have definite proof of deliberate fraud rather than just shoddy unprofessional account management, it really is just paranoia.
The safest option is to cancel well in advance & always delete your credit card details.
In my opinion of course.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

Just in case anyone missed this.
As to the issue.
Credit card companies are obligated to freeze a disputed charge. The account page supports the folks claim that Funcom charged out of cycle.
No reason to think it wont be rectified. If it's happening at an alarming rate, Funcom could have some issues.

Hey guys,
We have received similar reports like this over the past week and all of these have been investigated. What we discovered during our investigation is that the early payment is in result of a delay in our billing system where it would hold certain accounts due to account inconsistencies before fully processing the actual transaction. The delay to the process was in result of the excessive amount of traffic we had received during the launch of Age of Conan. Now that the system has caught back up, you may notice an early payment on your billing statement as your original transaction that was on hold and never deducted is now being fully processed. So the transaction was actually for the previous month and was processed a few weeks late.
If you feel that this deduction is still incorrect then please contact our customer support team immediately via email at account@ageofconan.com for further assistance and review.
Thank you,
Glen ''Famine'' Swan Senior Assistant Community Manager - Funcom

Maybe , just maybe if stopped talking down to the customers who have obviously been billed incorrectly and quit carrying the flag for FC when you don't work for them ( or do you) people would cut you some slack. Heres an idea....instead oa taking FC side and assuming the customer is always wrong, why dont you actually read what was written about the situation.
Theres still time for you to earn some of your self respect back if you just stop carrying that FC banner even when you know you are wrong.

The OP says he and his bank confirm he was billed for both months. This should be an automated database, since there is no phone support. So billing should occur like most other large organizations use. What you're saying really does seem to apply to this problem.
It isn't only the credit cards they're scamming, the time cards you can buy in stores are messed up as well. I purchased the game and a 2 month time card at my local Best Buy the day of launch, and still haven't played more than the month that came with the game. The time card is listed at Funcom as used, but I never recieved my 2 month game time. Now I've emailed them about 20 times about the problem, emailed them scanned copies of my Best Buy reciepts everything you could think of short of going to Funcom and bashing some skulls, and still nothing.
To make matters worse I have 3 friends on MSN that I've known since we played EQ together. They also have the same problem with thier 2 month game cards being listed as already used. Evidently Funcom is reusing the game cards or something funky is going on. I guess Funcom will be added to peoples banlist like SOE is. At least with SOE it wasn't about scamming money.
They did the same thing to my wife. She went down to the bank, and actually made the bank manager pull up her Funcom account info. He saw she had canceled but was charged shortly before, even though it wasn't due to be charged. He also saw that her account was frozen and she explained it was unplayable, so therefore the charge wasn't legitimate. She ended up getting her money back.
Famine, if this testimonial above is true, then your statement about the charge being "valid but late" is incorrect or she would not have got her money back.
What about those who didn't notice they'd been overcharged, or didn't pursue it, are Funcom just going to keep their money?
Are Funcom releasing a statement that all those who reported the problem been tallied up on their account payments so they had their correct amounts repaid?
Or are you just here blowing smoke again like when you came to "gather feedback"
I still keep hearing of this happening, and people aren't getting answers from the billing department about it, everything's going on behind closed doors.
So what's the deal, where's the public statement about this issue?

This is VERY grave news, Funcom better come out of hiding and sort this out pretty quickly.

i remember when SOE released some news about how gold farmer sites were using other peoples credit cards to purchase accounts and or game time. of course the owners of the original credit cards would request a charge back. the CC companies obviously would get their money back and this was costing SOE alot of money. you see, with funcom they dont have the luxury of paying out all this cash for these over charges they are doing. so when the CC companies or banks do go after them where do you think they will be getting this money from? bad news for funcom.
normally this is something every company wants to make sure doesnt happen. there usually are safeguards in effect to protect them as much as possible from these sort of exploits. the thing is, funcom is like those gold farmer sites. they are basically shooting themselves in the foot so to speak.

hey thanks for the heads-up. my account was set to expire on the 26th, so i cancelled today.
Remember to delete all you CC info too!
this is the way i see it, dont know if you'll agree or not:
game company gives your billing info in advance to the bank.
I need more vespene gas.
Everquest account closure FAQ: help.station.sony.com/cgi-bin/soe.cfg/php/enduser/popup_adp.php states:
"What happens if I attempt to cancel my account on the billing date?
If you try to cancel your account on the date of your billing, the charge has more than likely already gone through.
It is recommended that if you wish to cancel your account, do so well in advance of the last day of your billing cycle."
you are a funny character to say the least. these people were being charged a week or so in advance of their sub running out.
Just my thoughts.
It aways makes for a very entertaining thread when Avery steps in. Havent bothered to read many but this one is a pearler.
So how about some Correspondence mate, got any news on AOC, like what are they fixing next? What is this Christmas box weve heard about etc?
Be better than this trollop fest thats going on, let AOC get back to these guys with a reply. Unless you have some information to share?
Im sure the OP will update us when they do and i cant wait to hear the responce if there ever is one.
Must be something else to correspond here whats the news on AOC fixing their crap!!
Take the Hecatomb? TCG What Is Your Doom? quiz.
I agree, the faulty patching, the random banning, all the things that make AOC and Funcom such hilarious jokes give colour to this billing issue
Funcom is just a joke company that is totally incompetent at pretty much everything, it's all just incompetence
Happened to me as well, I'm going to the bank today and get back my money.
Thank you,

Maybe , just maybe if stopped talking down to the customers who have obviously been billed incorrectly and quit carrying the flag for FC when you don't work for them ( or do you) people would cut you some slack. Heres an idea....instead oa taking FC side and assuming the customer is always wrong, why dont you actually read what was written about the situation.
Theres still time for you to earn some of your self respect back if you just stop carrying that FC banner even when you know you are wrong.
Fungerer som det skal
The OP says he and his bank confirm he was billed for both months. This should be an automated database, since there is no phone support. So billing should occur like most other large organizations use. What you're saying really does seem to apply to this problem.
Tecmo Bowl.
