This is an awesome game to me, the best way to describe it as I see it is a grown up WoW the only problem is population, I really wish some of AoC marketing would get hired by Turbine this game is too good to be so unpopulated It may just be me but playing it made me long for the population that wow had where as in WoW I found myself if anything longing for more time to solo.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I agree it is a great game. WoW has made things too easy for players, very few people are willing to put effort into anything. Most players now want super fast paced action instead of depth and strategy. It is a shame, the only thing that keeps LotRO from being exceptionally fun is the lack of players. Everyone is too brainwashed from WoW though, very few games will succede in this market because of it. It needs about double the population it has now.
While I agree a large population is nice, I have no troubles finding people and my server seems very populated. No matter where I go(even out randomly about the land) I run into players. I even have found myself a few times fighting over the resource nodes out in the wilds, or a boss. Don't know about higher levels but I am currently at level 18 almost 19, I just had a group about 2 nights ago of 7 people going through the barrow-downs questing which was a blast. I think the population seems about right, anymore it would just be annoying to me.

-Currently playing FFXIV, and BDO.
I just cancelled my sub due to bad population. I am looking at a character transfer to a more populated realm maybe in the future. But I agree the game is insteresting but the lack of other players and grouping simply got to be too much.
Current Games: WOW, EVE Online
Not sure which server you're on, but it's weird to me. Snowbourn in EU is crammed
DB
Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.
I would like to know in which server are you playing.
I think it has a great sized population just the way it is. A good kinship makes it easy to find groups for those group quests and has a bonus of equipping with some really nice crafted items.
I miss DAoC
As a night-owl, it can be a little sparse in terms of population on Landroval. But during the more reasonable hours it's quite crowded.
That said, it's one of the most crowded servers, so I can see it being a problem on some, especially if you do have weird hours. I guess that's one of the pluses of games with people all over the world - you might lag more, but you have people from all different time zones...
R.I.P. City of Heroes and my 17 characters there
How has LotRO got in depth strategy? It's not more in depth than WoW. I don't know why players peddle this kind of misinformation. LotRO is slower paced, yes, more story oriented. But it's not Eve!
Some people are able to find depth outside Excel I guess?
Playing: AC2
Played: UO, DaoC, Horizons, Ryzom, WAR, LotRO, Eve, VG...
Population wasn't exactly booming when I played, but still a lot better than say EQII these days. At least in my opinion. As for the game being in-depth... I think it's quite the opposite.
AC (retired); EQ (retired); DAoC (retired); Horizons (retired); EQII (retired); CoH (retired); AC II (tested); Lineage II (beta); Neocron (tested); Saga of Ryzom (beta); SWG (retired)...
I tried it but the character models movement and animations were all off to me, just looked really nasty. I also wish'd it was more like WOW where it was the two factions against eachother but all they have is monster play which is lame.
I mean in lord of the rings surely the bad side have lore too?

Talking about SWG much?
Population levels are absolutly fine imo. I have characters on both Landroval and Silverload and have no trouble finding fellowships on either. So i don't know what server you're on but this doesn't seem to be the case for most players.
Also I'm quite happy this game doesn't have the population of WoW (although Turbine might think differently). LoTRO does not need a shit load of nut jobs running around spouting ridiculous crap on OOC and acting like fools.
I would love to see more people play this game, but saying that I think the population is very healthy. I even have seen it increase since I started playing in Feb. I do a census on the US Brandywine server and have seen the avg player number go up dramatically and stay pretty steady. If you want to check it out it is here:

Heh, those numbers are very unimpressive for LoTRO's so-called largest server. A shitty FFXI server has more people on in prime-time.
Agree, play this game for about 1 month just find that it lacks something. No doubt its very smooth, but, meh, just cant point my finger about the problem.
Maybe because of the lack or fraction? or it didn't really bring anything new to the table. just another pve with a Raiding end game....
I think they need to make this game more different than the others, than maybe it will have more sub...
RIP Orc Choppa
I don't think anything is wrong with 2k people on a server at one time. The population is spread out pretty evenly among all levels, with of course the highest being the upper tier. But anyway all areas seem to be relatively populated.

Well, no they don't. At least not when it comes to the actual books. The bad side is there to act as the conflict and catalyst for the good side.
There is no in depth info about Sauron in the books with the exception of the Silmarillion.
And as far as population, I'm on Brandywine and it's fine. OP, join a fellowship.

Agreed. The surroundings look good, but character and most monster models are pretty drab. As I've said before, the game is vanilla. Nothing really wrong with it, but hardly anything to get excited about.

I do agree about the character models themselves (faces, proportions etc.) could use some work but nothing game-breaking. But the armors and items in this game are very finely detailed especially on the hi-res client.

Really i have only managed to find 3 people from wow that were mentally sane and not babies. And these people left wow because they hated the immature crowd.
That said i play on landroval and the population is fine, only to get better with the constant expansions turbine will be throwing in.
Think about it, All of gondor, rohan, mordor(for the creeps maybe)
lots of stuff.
I can't believe people are complaining about LotRO's graphics and character design.
I must be playing a totally different game.
The only game that comes close to the beauty of LotRo is AoC.
Only the WoW players could possibly complain about the characters since they've been playing nothing but stylized cartoon avatars for almost four years.
It's difficult to get used to a different art style once you play WOW that long.
Could Lotro use more subs? of course it could, personally I feel Lotro is easily the best class based fantasy mmo on the market today.
The game does wow better than wow does and has a stronger pve storyline.
the majority of WoW players are first time mmo players and we know what thats like, they don't want to move on cause they invested so much time in the game, even if they aren't 100% happy with the direction of the game.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
i did not like the game my self dont know why as i'm an big fan off LOTR books just dont like the game just me i guess
Those are the average numbers that were reported for Age of Conan also...
AoC populations
Well, LOTRO is a little lower than some of the busy AoC servers.

I guess the comparison has some merit... however, those are EU AoC servers just FYI. I wouldn't be surprised if AoC's US servers were even lower >.>
