I want this game more, but I dont want to spend $50 on WAR in September if this ends up coming out in October or November even (just guessing at release dates). What are other people in this situation doing?
First, Darkfall is not releasing this year, there is no chance at all. Second, the american version will release maybe 6 months- 1 year after the european version, maybe in september 2009 january 2010.
I'm probably going to buy war and play for at least a few months. If I like war, then I'll probably play it contentedly for a few months while watching what darkfall does. If it releases and releases in good shape, I'll buy it. If not, probably keep playing war. If I don't like war, then same deal minus the war
When it comes down to a choice of having sure fun now, or holding off for possible fun in the future (there is no garuntee DF will release in the next 12 months), 9 times out of 10 I would say take the sure thing.
so many idiots have posted on this thread, honestly, if Darkfall gomes out with the video this month then yes, wait for DF, if they really do release this year then they might release shortly after warhammer (perhaps holiday season)...if you honestly want darkfall just wait for the video before you make a decision. and DONT buy warhammer at launch, or even pre-order...why? well, look at AoC...
I want this game more, but I dont want to spend $50 on WAR in September if this ends up coming out in October or November even (just guessing at release dates). What are other people in this situation doing?
I gave up on darkfall ever coming out around 2003. You could wait for darkfall but it could be a long long time. Its almost a certainity to say it will not be out this decade regardless of whether you believ the next decade starts in the year 2010 or 2011 (2010 if you believe a new decadse starts in the year zero as now recognized by the US or 2011 if you believe the decade starts in the year 1 as recognized by the rest of the world).
I, too, was looking forward to Darkfall, but slowly lost intrest in 05/06. From what I've seen, I think people will be pleasantly suprised with Warhammer. AOC had major warning signs before it came out, and those warnings turned out to be true. I believe warhammer will be different, although I do not think it will be a perferct, be-all, end-all game, rather that it will be better then the negative nay-sayers would have you believe.
If Darkfall (finnaly) comes out, and delivers what it promises, I will buy it without a second thought, but in my opinion, and from the information that is out on the web, or rather lack of, I don't think there is any way DF will release this year. I think late Q1-Q2 of '09 would be a bit more believable, and even then, the developers have alot of work to do to gain the publics confindence in a game with soooo little available information that has been in development for so long. Even though they are a small, independent studio, I won't be excited about DarkFalls release until the developers prove to me that it is worth being excited about. Great ideas, and inovative systems are great on paper, but I'll believe they "hype" when I see it.
Yes, WAR will tide you over until the awesomely awesome epic release of the most epic game to ever be released, Darkfall.
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
Buy WAR, because it'll be out first, but then try out Darkfall when it comes along later this year. The video will hopefully shed some light. As for the morons that still believe this game is vaporware, check out the distributer's stock page. You can ignore evidence all you want.
According to people who've visited the studio, the game is as they say it is. The worst that can happen is the game will be buggy and poor when it launches, but it exists, contrary to what the trolls will have you believe. The people from Womens Gamers who interviewed the company said the developers were perfectionists and they thought the game would never launch cause the devs would never be satisfied with it, so one can assume the game won't launch unfinished.
WAR definitely, that $50 will be well worth it. You'll get more productive features for your money. Choose wisely, and reseach and compare features between the two MMOs as possible. As for me, I'm going for WAR, been following it forever, waiting for the Open Beta to begin now. Which is not to mention right around the corner.
Buy WAR, First, Darkfall is not releasing this year, there is no chance at all. Second, the american version will release maybe 6 months- 1 year after the european version, maybe in september 2009 january 2010.

There is nobody in your situation. This is like a thirty year-old man asking whether he should buy himself a new car or wait for Santa to bring him one. If he actually wants a car, there's not really much of an option.
Seeing as Warhammer will DEFINATELY be live on september 18th, and Darkfall still has yet to release any real tangible information in ages (other then the promise of a video that might release this month) I think the choice is pretty easy to make. You could always pre-order, get into the open beta, and if the game is no good, cancel the preorder without losing a dime. Darkfall still has not released a definite release date, and are notorious for pushing back their speculated release date. They have not showed any playable content to the gaming industry, nor released anything with some substance to it for years.
Every game company, small developer or large, start up the "hype machine" the year they release, as in videos, press-releases, previews to the press and peers in the industry, and so far the developers have kept everything very tight lipped. Logic would suffice to suggest that if everything was as polished, and close to release as they said, they would be pimping their game to anyone and everyone they could. In the end, game developers do not make games to please themselves, nor their fans, but to make a profit. Ignoring the community and industy alike does nothing but raise questions and doubt. If you had the best thing since sliced bread (well best thing in a ffa pvp mmorpg) you wouldnt hide it from your potential customers.
I would have asked for a buddy key to make sure WAR really is the game for you. As for DF you'll get the chance to try before buy. As for the waiting part - don't. Aventurine isn't about to release a game before it is finished. If that is 2009, that is fine although they are aiming for 2008.

The sad thing is people have been asking should I get game x, y or z or wait for Darkfall every year, for years.
And yet again another game that started development after Darkfall did, is again releasing before Darkfall probably will.
Every year the skeptics (Troll haters) say don’t wait for Darkfall because game x, y or z is almost definitely going to release before Darkfall, and they have always been right so far.
And every year the supporters have said wait for Darkfall because its definitely coming out this year or sometime “soon“, and they have always been wrong so far.
And of course the supporters have always maintained that Darkfall will definitely be so much better then every game that has launched or probably will launch before it, and of course that remains to be proven.
But its nice to see how the preemptive excuses and justifications have already started just incase Darkfall does not successfully start public beta and launch sometime this year over the next 5 months, as the Darkfall developers have officially committed themselves to doing.
It clearly demonstrates how even some of the supporters have so very little faith left in their own developers word.

Buy WAR. However, if it's a choice between WAR II and Darkfall, buy Darkfall. They should be coming out at around the same time.

Buy WAR - it actually exists. If you want to wait for DF, hope you have a lot of patience.
