read through all previous posts before you reply, its only common sense.
Yes some people seem like they are talking shit because they aren't in a big guild. And I would love to see any 6 man guild try and hold a keep from divinity.
Actually the top guilds in the height of every pvp games time was always a small guild.
EVERYONE thats played DAoC knows who BADLAM is.
That core group was 5 people.
FIVE
My Guild was ranked number one overall. We had nightly zergs of 40 members and ran our alliance... but when we looked at the daily and weekly totals, out 300 man guild was getting out earned in points by bedlam every week.
In WoW the top guilds are now the smaller groups/guilds that have formed as a result of the arena system. but wow isnt a pvp game at all so lets not count it. UO was also about small packs of PK'er teams formed into a "clan" Call of Duty 4 best teams are small... and thats a shooter... but its more of a team based pvp game than WOW is... so I will throw it in as well.
you also have to remember. the main portion of people playing this game will have come from daoc. In DAoC, eventhough the game was based around large groups we all had the mentality of making small elitist groups.
I must first say, that I'm rather surprised by your posts considering you are a staff member here. I will always listen to what other people have to say, and will always respect their opinions and try my best to view any topic from their eyes. However, I feel that your opinions seem rather closed minded, and you don't seem willing to even consider other player's opinions. To me, this is what I forum staff member should be striving to do. Once again, that's just my opinion.
I'm not sure where you are getting your information about DAOC players owning in pvp. If so, that's great! We have close to 50 members who are former DAOC players, including our GM, and a large majority of our core players. I'm not at liberty to talk about the Closed Beta, but I will gladldy do so once NDA is dropped. I will say that we're definately ready for game launch.
As a former WoW player, I must disagree with your claims however, but that is all I can say, due to the fact that I won't break NDA to give examples of my personal experience in game. Once again, I respect your opinion, but speculation is not what I'm here for. As a staff member, I would expect you to refrain from throwing out pure speculative "stats" that could damage a players opinion of a highly anticpated game pre launch. If you had factual evidence, that would be different.
Believe me, I am all for small guilds. Even as a member of a large guild, I have always loved interacting and forming friendships with smaller guilds. Divinity will be helping these smaller guilds any time we can, and we understand that they can be our largest allies in the fight against Destruction. I do find it rather odd that you would include COD 4 as part of your argument. I''ve been in one of the top COD4 core groups since release. I don't see any correlation at all, other than it requires teamwork and high playtime gamers who know their teammate's preferred actions and thoughts just as well as the teammate does.
That being said, I know that you are speaking of large guilds in general. Once again, as a staff member, I would have expected you to post your opinions on a forum that doesn't directly name a guild who's players and officers are working hard to develop a great opportunity for fellow gamers to have fun. It is in poor taste in my opinion. You argue that the only way to be successful is to have a small group of "core players". If you go to our website, read our forum posts, and look at our guild structure, you will see that this is exactly what we will have in place. We will have very small teams, who will interact with, get to know on a very personal basis, and fight with their respective teams on a daily basis. Divinity as a whole will be there for support, and will provide the large numbers that we will need for certain encounters. It will also limit the backlash from a core member leaving.
Anyway, I decided to post on this site with an Open Mind, and all I ask is that you do the same. I would also ask that in the future, if you have something negative to say about our guild, or our guild structure, you put yourself in the shoes of players who are working hard to make this work. We know that we will be successful, and I have no doubts that you will as well. I do however think it's rather pointless to "throw down the gauntlet" and challenge each other to see who will have the most points in two years, when we should all be here to have a good time. By the way, two years is an awfully long time
I will respond to any of your further posts via PM, as I do not feel that this discussion is productive for the game that I am looking forward to more so than any other game I have played.
your recent responses in the previous posts have let me witness the maturity, and sincerity which you and your guild have. I have decided to give divinity a try, and join the legions of your Order army. -See you next week in game.
its common practice for me to never just simply go by what a guild leader is of a guild, while they are a portion its not all of it.
Think of it like a Job (ya i know i didnt want to , but ya kinda have to) your boss if he is a dick is prob 50% of why you hate your job, the rest is co workers and other nonsence.
Guild leaders who speak like they are in politics just dont have the feel of a guild, they are robotic, non down to earth and prob when things happen become a real dick. Im a guild leader and have done it plenty of times, in my experiance the down to earth approach of "im a person and have opinions" and not trying to please everyone works better(politicly correct bs), and gets the people your prob want to play with.
Now if a true large guild is to stay and be good it would have to function much like a military, having squads, that are in battalions that are ran by guy A which is over seen by guy B who looks over all the battallions ect.
The issue with this is you feel disconnected from the rest of the guild or dont have enough say or what not. So why even say, as the Staff guys said, you will simply just break off and make your own guild where you feel like you play a roll.
Now take a look at what i just said, instead of making a large guild, make a large alliance, A guild is this game that is big is only hurting itself, the smart thing to do would be to take this large numbers and divide them into their only little sects, look at the military set up, instead of it being squad A,B,C , make it guild A,B,C then put it under a alliance.
Now being a big alliance is much more beneficial for a few reasons.
1- People are going to have their guild, and do things with their guild, having fun, be with their group of friends ect.
2- NOW you got some more banners on the ground, more guilds = more buffs, since if i remember correctly your alliance benefits or maybe even your side i forget none the less you get more things.
A ALLIANCE is better then a BIG GUILD!
If you took 200 people of the same skill and set up
To add to the alliance comment it is core part of the game design. You build an alliance, you can have alliance chat channels that only certain guild ranked players can speak in (only officers etc)and you can make an alliance based calendar of events etc in game for easy coordination. They have thought of this issue and built the game to remove it as a problem.
i would first off like to appologize if my previous post came across as a little harsh. I put my self in your shoes and realized that you are just doing your job, and I can't fault you for that. You have the job that every gamer would love to have I do hope that you put yourself in my shoes when reading your posts as well.
Once again, I applaud you for getting gamers to come to these forums. I would have never posted on these boards if not for this thread, so here's to a job well done
I hope that we'll actually be on the same server, and that you'll look me up in game. We'll probably get along great. I too am an older gamer, and I've been around the block as well.
If you ever need me to clarify anything, or just want to have "game talk" shoot me an email.

Your basing your experience on EvE?
Mr Spaceman, from my experience of playing a myriad of mmos including Dark Age Of Camelot, I dont beleive big guilds will thrive in WAR....long. They might do well temporarily and thats all Im giving them.
I am a member of Divinity and I have enjoyed reading everyone's opinions thus far. I agree that alliances are beneficial and we have not ruled that option out. To say that an alliance is always better than a large guild than I feel that the statement is not true. It can be, but I've also seen alliances fall due to egos and just simply that players from allied guilds just didn't get along. Not to mention, aren't all Order players in an alliance on Realm vs Realm. Of course my loyalty is Divinity first, but I'm going to help Order players because they are Order. We are all fighting for the same cause.
On the topic of big guilds being destroyed from inside I can agree that it happens. But I've been gaming for years and I've seen 6 man, 40 man, 100 man, and 300 man guilds destroyed from within. It happens to small, medium, and large guilds. Some guilds that have been around for years are larger guilds and multi-gaming guilds with large membership. It depends if you have a strong foundation and organization. I feel we have that at Divinity. You may disagree and that is your right. However, we do not just take whomever applies. We do not have a system where every member can invite to guild. We do have experienced players that can PVP and we have experienced players who love PVE or both and a large number of the guild mates are active on Vent, other games and boards before game has even started.
In my opinion, you should go where you feel comfortable and with a guild that you can make friends. Be it a small guild, a medium guild, or a large guild. I'm actually glad that Divinity was singled out as I get a chance to defend our large guild. However, do I honestly think that Divinity is the end all best choice for you? No. Only you can decide if a large guild like Divinity is right for you. I do think it was right for me and I'll stand by the decision until I feel I was wrong. Do what is right for you. In the end, Divinity will have its quality members and we will be here for along time fighting for Order.
alot of big guilds will be strict on gaming and what is expected of members. It may not happen now but it will happen. This isn't bad because in order for large guilds to be successful they need to have a strong foundation.
I seriously doubt 1 guild could ever control a server. There is a chance that an alliance could but that is as long as pride doesn't get in the way of the goal.

What I don't get is that people don't get that this is WoW. You're going to need a bigger guild or a big alliance to get anything done RvR wise.
Description: Divinity guild has been in many games, but this one specifically is named after the original divinity created on DAoC mordred after Retribution broke up.
Who are you to name the guild after this. I don't like anyone taking credit of something we worked hard to earn such a great name for. I'm sure Keth isn't fond of this. I know Saladon is really annoyed by this. Them being the two Founders of the guild. I'm not to happy about it either. I would really like to know what gave you the right to do so.

Hey Binks!
Trust me, the name had nothing to do with getting members. I used it because it was some of the best times I ever had in a MMORPG, and when I decided to create a guild I wanted to honor that time (and the people I played with during it). Kamil, Crabby, I remember a lot of them (it's been what, 6 or 7 years? sheesh...).. was great times back then! I've gone by many names over the years, but the one you'll prolly remember is Pansern(a fun-loving LA SB hah!), and yes I was one of the original members as well. I even followed with the team for a while to BD (later joined legelds and I was a member with them for sheesh... 4 years or so well into WoW).. It was a close-nit group. Great to see some people are still around from that time!
Divinity sounds great with the order side, and I've always loved the name. Keep in mind i've always said its named after and honored after, i've never claimed to be the original GM(though I did help run BD for a while), but I put just about as much time in there as anyone ever did in the guild (at least the old-school portion of it ).
Sorry, I don't really come to mmorpg much.. I used to frequent it a lot, but over the years i've gotten away from it for one reason or another. Feel free to PM me any time, or stop by the site if you'd like to say hi! Any of you guys planning to head to WAR?
Talk to you all soon!

And there is no such thing as dominant large guilds in competitive games.
I will repeat... NO SUCH THING. it goes against male nature, and these games are made up of mostly males. Being elite means a small group of highly skilled indivituals. YOu cant be elite having open applications and welcome to all classes. THATS NOT ELITE. And any guild that is actually large and has good players? Same thing that happens in every game. the best players.... we ALWAYS find eachother. Then we ALWAYS form the best groups comprised of the classes that have the best synergy and we roll over countless amounts of normal players. this causes people in our guild to resent us because we dont include them in our dominance. But if we included you.... we wouldnt be elite and it would slow down our process. This divide usually causes us to break off into our own guild. Once the elite break off there will always be a group that leaves as copycats to try and do the same thing by themselves. Losing this many quality players makes most guilds fold. Hell, even in the description it says what I just did. "the guild that formed after retribution broke up" Wow was filled with large guilds until making smaller elite teams of 10 people was better for arena and raiding progress.
DAoC was dominated by zerg guilds in the beginng. I was in the #1 ranked guild from opening of the game until the 2nd year. We had 200 ACTIVE members. and everyone of us LOVED to zerg. this guild fell apart when the best players realised we could earn more points/money/respect by playing with better players in smaller groups.
same thing will happen in war, its human nature.
This guy knows what he is talking about without question.
I played with top 10 guilds in Guild Wars back in the day and got pretty into the meta-game. The only group I know of who successfully demonstrated they could be fairly good and have a massive playerbase compared to what most people ran (average guild size would be anywhere from 8, the super hardcore, to 16 or so) was Xen of Onslaught. I am fairly certain they ran their guild like the "elite"/"best" did and so actually had ~16 people dedicated to the PvP while others were in it for PvE.
Massive guilds are filled with massive fail in many many ways and in WAR, particularly on Order, it only seems to be worse due to a major lack of real successful experience from almost all of them (most have no real unarguable achievements like being ranked X on their server).
One reason small groups > large groups is due to everyone really learning how to work as a team.
I remember you pansern. You're a good guy from what I remember. I just don't like the whole zerg feel you're bringing to Divinity. Just the opposite of what we represented back than. But other than that I don't really mind. Patterick and I still play every game together for the most part. We both plan to play War along with Willl if you remember him the troll female zerk. He played a shaman aswell Vertkill i think , I'm not too sure I stoped playing daoc at that point. However we're going to be playing Destruction. Bunch of my friends from my wow guild are headed over their to probally start our own thing or join an already well-established guild. We're not too sure yet.

Hey! Glad you still remember me.. I remember you guys for sure (though after all this time the names are blurry...Hard to forget Will though! hah!).
Take this thread with a grain of salt, and although yes this is a large guild being formed, I think you'd be impressed with the level of skill we're allowing in. Mature, team-oriented players are all we are acepting, and we run at about a 30-50% rejection rate depending on the day.. It's just that we're getting around 20 apps a day (sometimes many more than that), and so many are very good.. it will get weeded out fast, you know I won't put up with non-team players, but I have to go with my gut at this point with applications (this is also WAR and not WoW or Mordred, and organized teams of large forces will have an advantage here and i'm trying to get the structure in place so we'll have that.. ). That being said this is the last week are are taking simply applications, and going into open our application process will take around a month to become a real member so it will be rigorous.
Also, a large portion of the player base is really getting to know one another and are getting tight. We have an incredible structure in place for leadership, and are handling multiple PvP teams that will be separated by skill and time availible (so it's a lot more organized than your traditional zerg guild). You know me though, I always speak through actions and not words, and I'll do that here as well... All I can do is try, anyway!
Anyways, amazing to see you guys are still around, and please stop by and say hi at least! If you guys ever decide order may be right for you instead I hope you'll stop by! Give all the other guys my best! My time on Mordred with you guys was some of the best times i've had on a MMO, and I used this name only to honor that.
