1. Word of Warcraft , the game that ruined MMO's forever
How did it ruin them if it just combined the previous ones all together? I really think it is a great game, and people just like to hate on it because it's the new "fad".
first of all wow boy. its not a new fad to hate wow its an old one. and i hated it before it was even launched. it didnt combine them all cause it is nothing like the ones before it besides the grind fest. and i really dont want this forum to turn into a wow fight. so go play wow or go back to B.Net
Real mature
Really though, how did you manage to get yourself to hate a game before it was even released? That's some pretty impressive hatred you're packing.
The only game that really goes on my list of "worst" mmo's would be Everquest
Say what you want about it being so innovative or whatever, the fact of the matter was that it was a treadmill that forced you to group to kill anything your level of three below it...and it took so long to gain a level that it felt like you were starting from scratch after you dinged...even WoW's 69-70 grind was nothing compaired to the grinds in the THIRTIES in everquest.
I've played many other MMO's and wouldn't say that any of them were inherently bad, including SWG and NGE SWG...though original SWG was totally buggy and almost unplayable at times, i still had a lot of fun with it, way more fun than I ever had with everquest.
i hated a pre-launched game cause i followed it thru production cause my best friend was interested in it. and i cant stand warcraft. i loved starcraft and diablo 1 and 2 when i was in highschool. until eq1 launched and it revolutionized my gaming life.
so yeah i hated wow cause it sounded awful to me, and i was right. ive played wow cause my friends played it. i got to end game in a week and was so bored with everything it had to offer i quit. my friend that is still sub'd to it doesnt even play. he has a program that plays for him, a few days after he is end level and grinds bg's. real fun game
1) RF online (seriously shallow and 1 big pile of*****)
2) AoConmen (played till lvl 60 thought id hive a fair shot but we have been seriously misled by funcom here)
3) EQ2 (seemed to much kill 15 of them kill 40 of these filler content)
4) WoW ( although it makes it onto my number 2 best game it also has things i hate ,but it has done more for getting people inot mmo,s than anything else)
RF Online - You literally had to leave your computer on all night to mine stuff needed in the game.
Early Vanguard - It really was an embarassment to play. I've never played a released game with so many bugs.
Tabula Rasa - One playable race, one start area and all the character types played virtually the same (at least at launch)
Auto Assault - Just mixed up game that failed as an MMO. Hideous graphics and Vehicles has so little customisation. If had been more like EVE it could have been awesome.
I've stopped playing plenty more, but for me these are the only ones that stand out as awful. I've never played PotBS.

2) Earth & Beyond- So glad they pulled the plug on this one. Boring, boring, boring.
Aww, you should be shot for that one. I would sign up for it again in a heartbeat if someone opened it again. It has a HUGE cult following. It's all taste though.
I agree. I loved E&B. It was my first MMORPG. Many an hour I spent in a zen-like state mining. When I finally reached high enough level to refine all the minerals I mined, I actually gained a level and a half in trading. If there was another game like that (without the FFA PvP that Eve is), I'd sign up for it. I can't forgive EA for pulling the plug.
Just as well EA pulled the plug. City of Heroes was released soon afterwards and I didn't have the time for two games.
You're right. Everything is a matter of taste. I am glad that other people hated RF Online though.
I have to agree with the others that WoW has definately ruined and dumbed down the genre. It gets a spot in my top 5 for that. Though there are some dumbed down games I do enjoy. The effect it has on the genre is disturbing. So.. all that being said AoC gets the all time worst game spot.
1. AoC - horrible game, even more dumbed down than WoW, skills broken, feats broken, stats broken, huge lack of content.. like enough content to keep one busy for a week or 2. Terrible coded terain with exploitable spots everywhere, GMs who ban everyone for exploiting, nazi forum mods, horrible customer service. It is definately the Worst.
2. SWG after the NGE - this was such a great game before this, even with all its flaws... it is still a painful subject for alot of people.
3. WoW for reasons stated above.
4. EQ1 after the Planes of Poop - EQ1 before this would be in my favorite top 5, but that was the beginning of the end (for me) of EQ1.
5. Everquest 2 after their latest expansion Rise of Kunark, they are following EQ1's footsteps. The game is so dumbed down now it is pretty much a solo to 80 game until you raid, and alot of that is forced soloing. The current raids in Kunark suck really bad too, which is the only content that has any rewards worth recieving.
this is just a list of games that I have played, I am sure there are much worse games out there that I was lucky enough to avoid.
Trying to give a reason for each, and could possibly rant on forver, but trying to keep it simple.
World of Warcraft - for having no soul and being just a patchwork of former ideas, combining them into one (commercially successful) package. The good part is that it keeps the communities of other games sort of clean...
Age of Conan - for wasting this great license. There is so much great lore in Howard's world but the game plays like a "checklist" with no challenges at all. Everything is dull and gets repetitive as hell. Graphics aint enough, to make it a good game, still aren't...
All other games I played were fun in one or the other way so for really bad games which totally were no fun to me, personally I only have those two.
I only wanna rate games where I have reached the endgame and experience the high end content, therefore I can't judge a few, as it would be not fair.
Are we talking about the 5 games that I liked the least or the 5 games that I think are the worst MMORPGs? Nobody gives a s*** about my personal 5 because I would probably not like them because my nephew stole my cookie when I was 3, so who cares. Objectively, the 5 worst MMORPGs I've encountered.
Dark and Light
The Matrix Online
Auto Assault
Roma Victor
that's about it, oh yea, and by listing games like WoW or EQ2 you actually make a fool of yourselves. you might not like them, and I concur, I don't like them either, but HELL, they're aeons away from being "teh worst games"... jesus....
hmmm hard choices. There are things I hate about many games, and those things almost make these games land on the list, but after some thought, here goes.
1. Maple Story - I played it about 2 years ago. Little no quest. Grinding adorable mobs for hours and hours. Too many E-peen personality people in the community.
2. Sword of the New world - the ultimate in grind fest. after about level 10 you get 2 - 5 pathetic quest per a level. Then you have to spend about 8+ ingame hours to gain the next level or 2......or you could afk grind all night, but that is disabled now. (I must say the music is awesome.)
3. Perfect World - I'm level 30 and I'm still only using 5 spells? Boring slapped together instances that become even weaker when high levels beg you to let them join your group for items that they should have outgrown.
4. Age of Conan - Buggy game is fine, but horrid customer service, no communication, false advertising, terrible class balance, untested features, faulty untested PvP system, terrible graphics coding, unstable servers, and piss poor patching just made this game worse and worse and worse for me.
5. Anarchy Online - Just like AOC, it started out pretty awesome, then just got worse as I played. The game was out for over 2 years at the time and it still had blatantly obvious bugs, buggy mission keys, no direction, too much changing and upgrading of gear. Once I had an item I liked it was obsolete within a day.
Either people have nto played that many gamesand just don't know better.. or they are whining like spoiled five year olds. There are some amazingly bad games out there... and they complain about "Bwaaaah, this game got too mainstream!" Sick in a really sad and stupid way.
I was dissappointed with D&D Online for it was to hard to do anything Solo and try and get a group without getting a bunch of punks was real hard unless by some chance you had a friend or two playing with you.

LOL, and why are you posting in such a thread if you have tested and played 3 (in words: THREE) MMOs in your gaming career?
A shame people list good games just because they didn't like them or out of pure ignorance. For everyone whos unsure what a broken, laggy, ugly, mindless and funless game looks like----> Dark and Light is for free now!! Just to see HOW low it can get...
LotRO, WoW, EQ2, DaoC are all quality games, whether you might like the content or not...

Yawn, so you're saying you have no opinion?
The "WoW is the reason our game sucks" excuse is getting old.

Not many people are a fan of the -WoW hate because you can- attitude.
There are other -basement dweller- forums for that.

Funny how some people got WoW in the list, with the reason "Because they ruined my Game and dumbed down others".
