WoW is like a matter of public record, and War is like Area 52.

What's even more funny is that most of you have never even played WAR and/or spent 3 years in WoW.

WoW is to google as WAR is to ask.com.

If WoW is like "Brittney" Spears? Than that would make WAR like Amy Winehouse, or worse.

People's ability to jump on bandwagons of hate really amazes me.

WoW is like a steel roller coaster while War is like a wooden roller coaster... Both take you for a ride, give you a small thrill, don't give you any choices, direct you exactly where  you go, and drop you off at the same place as everyone else.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic

    (don't take this offensively :P)

This doesn't make any sense at all either.

First off I just want to say why people are comparing a non-released gamed to the most successful MMO on the market.

" Boosts up in popularity real fast and then is forgotten" WHAT!? Where do you live and what are you reading? Last I checked WoW is about to hit its peak, which it will then have about a 5 year streak with 10 million + subscribers over that lifetime. Over these past years, we obviously haven't been seeing WoW's numbers dwindiling in significant amounts since its been climbing  more and more. Do you not remember the posts saying stuff such as " WoW hit the 8 million mark." Then about 6 months later " WoW hit the 9 million mark" and etc etc.  And if your refering to Tupac as the rap artist that got shot, your gravely mistaken in saying hes forgotton.  WAR hasn't even been released, so its really not safe to make any judgement at all about how long it plans to last or take over the MMO giant for that matter.

    Wrong.

Everything Warcraft is a knock-off of Warhammer. In fact, the only reason that the Warcraft games aren't actually Warhammer games is b/c they couldn't get the Warhammer license, but already had all the work done so they just switched out the name and changed a few bits of art and the story. And, yes, I realize you said MMO-wise...see below

And as for WAR not being out, and to the guy that keeps saying that WAR is just like WoW, even the PvP w/ capture the flag and such...you couldn't be more wrong and it seems like you never actually played the game, and if you are in the beta and have participated in testing recently, then you must be blind, or extremely dense. The ONLY thing in WAR that is even remotely like WoW is the art-style, and even that is apples to oranges b/c WAR is MUCH, MUCH darker, grittier, and not quite as cartoonish.

Warhammer Online is probably the least derivative (of other MMO's) MMO I have ever played. The best way I can think of to describe it is as a mix of DAoC, and the actual table-top Warhammer, w/ a tiny, TINY touch of EQ/WoW thrown in.

And I am not a fanboi in any way, shape or form of any game, that is just my honest take on my experiences in WAR so far (Elder tester)

  • sokkyusokkyu Member Posts: 92

I totally will agree with everyone who supports WAR after several years of equal or more sucess compared to WoW. I don't even like WoW but I can face the fact that it makes big bucks in comparison the games I play.

Tabletop and MMOs are two VERY different things. Yes sure they both have orcs and warcraft wanted the warhammer lisence, and  blah blah blah. In the end, their not so different, ones PVP focus'ed and ones not. Warhammer might have more sopisticated graphics however that because they have newer technology. However, that doesn't go to say that WoW isn't capable of redoing their graphics..  But I still stick to my words of saying if anything, Warhammer Online is a knock off of World of Warcraft. Believe what you wish however, your entitled to your opinion.

To imply that something is a "knock off" means that it is somehow not as good as the original.

WAR is not a knock off of WoW. WAR has a similar UI, because if it didn't then the masses would cry that the UI is clunky and uncustomizable. WAR has an auto-attack system, with extra layers added to make combat more about strategy, not 0 IQ button spamming and screaming, "I R 133754UC3!!" The lore point is obvious to anyone with half a brain because Blizzard just about ripped off Warhammer. They did the same with Warhammer 40K and Starcraft, they just put a different background story and art. Honestly, that's all the similarities that WAR and WoW share.

To be a knock-off it'd have to have 90% of things in common with WoW, only it'd have to do them worse.

    --------------------------------------
A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"

    Order of the White Border.

For all of those that hate WoW, the fact what it has done for MMOs can not be desputed. However to say that War is a rip off of WoW is a rather uninformed statement. If we look at Games Workshop, the company behind the concept of War, and then look at WoW, you can see that artisticly and in a way conceptually WoW did borrow heavily from GW. If we are talking about the UI and gameplay, of course there are going to be similarities as a certain standard has been set, yes by WoW but also from the games that come before.

WoW is like an old pair of sneakers that are comfortable to wear.

War is like the new pair that look damn good and in time may become comfortable.

You obviously do not understand what i was getting at. More people like Call of Duty than Medal of Honor, you can see that in sales. Same thing applys to WoW and WAR. First off, WAR isn't even out, so i do not understand how you are comparing it to anything since you haven't played it yet.
