All this ... "yes it's a wow-killer" talk really reminds me of why people become misanthropists... it's because of the ignorance and the idiocy....

you're so caught up in your love for wow, that when someone says a game might kill wow you call them ignorant. wow is not a religion maybe a cult but its not a religion. warhammer is going to seriously hurt wow, you can see blizzard are already running scared by introducing siege warfare...warhammer has the backing of the biggest gaming studio in the world, if EA want to kill wow they have the money to do so.

Blizzard isn't scared of WAR, it's the other way around.  WoW dominates the mmo genre, it is the MOST electrifying mmo today in gaming entertainment, and that's a fact.   WAR is like a cheap hooker on a corner in LA, and WoW is like a high priced classy escort from Belize.  Sorry, but WAR has no chance.

Oh and anything you say is unbiased, your name makes me not take you seriously. I have played wow and didn't find it electrifying, and i wouldn't know much about hookers as i have a girlfriend and get laid for free.

    Oh no!

"This is TEH WoW KILLER" posts are always made before games come out, and what happens when the game comes? The disapointment.

Please make this kind of posts AFTER release.

People will leave wow. I am one of them.

    Wow has already killed itself.

love WoW? erm.. No... do I play WoW? erm.. no.. stopped playing years ago...

Do I respect and can take my head out of my a**e to actually awknoledge that it's a good game?... yeah... I can do that... which is more than I say about you..

It's mathematically IMPOSSIBLE to kill WoW right now... WAR is by far NOT the most inspirational game... in fact... it's copied too many things from WoW to even attempt to try and kill WoW :)

Blizzard running scared?... because they announced siege warfare?... erm.. they announced it before AoC was released... and it was a response to AoC having siege wargare... NOT Warhammer ;)

You really need to wake up.... sure WAR might get up to 1... 2 million subscribers?... it will never... ever.. get to the ammount WoW has...

how hard is that to accept it? :)

Well in my oppinion it doesn't have to be a wow killer. We won't see a wow killer imo until wow is really outdated and all those players go searching for a new game. basicaly only time will kill wow.

However, wether a game has 500k, 1M or 10m subs matters more to the company than tothe player. You are not sharing the same world with 10M wow playes, you are spread across the servers, so if wow had 1 server with 10k people on it, it would probably be a very similar expirience for the player. (if we exclude that more subs mean more income which can indirectly translate into more updates)

AOC is not a failure because it has 50k, 100k or 400k players as they claim, it is a failure because the game is full of gaping holes and crap support and no sense of community. It is not fun to play it after a certain point and that is the main reason AOC is failure, at least in my eyes.

War will be a big success if it manages to offer long term fun gameplay, coupled with good support for teh subscribers and good short and long term development strategy, regardless of the number of players after the subs exceed a certain treshold.

Regardless of everything, it won't see me for a couple of months in any case, which Mythic has to thank FC for :P

the only game that will kill WoW is WoW itself ...

now i do expect WAR to take a large chunk of WoW's PvPers + a few PvEr's. im guessing WoW will have to merge servers in about 6 months when they figure out how many will not be coming back.

i predict those DAoC people who also plays WoW will quit and turn to WAR. Those who want to stick to WoW has every reason to do so with the new expansion coming very soon

  • gethmordgethmord Member Posts: 9

WAR will be like AoC. Good concept, but rushed way too much. WAR has already dropped 4 cities and 4 classes to be ready this soon.

To many kids are being babyset with WoW for any one game to kill it. I left WoW after i hit lvl 70 and was like ( i dont want to instance grind again). If you played DAoC , this game is going to be a lot like it. Better Graphs and maybe just maybe more balanced.

WAR is not a WOW killer because is a niche game. Is a game for RVR'rs guys.

  • verndvernd Member Posts: 600

Just pointing out-- if WAR does somehow land 1-2 million subs (personally I think that's really generous..) that's roughly 25-50% of WoW's subs in the US/EU. That would be a sizable dent in Blizzard's domination of the western MMO market and very noticeable in their game.

I don't really expect that to happen though, at least not for a while.

The holy grail of old school MMORPG players: something, anything, that will kill the hated WoW.

CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.

Its possible though. Look at Age of Conan for example. The game launched and had up to about half a million subs total after a few months. The problem was that the game sucked and all those people left right after, but if WAR can keep them, and they tell their friends to join up, then the number will increase even more in the first year.

With the failure that is AoC, players might even be more desperate to play WAR as opposed to any other game, otherwise they will have to go back to WoW.

    walmart could probably kill WoW...

  • qotsaqotsa Member UncommonPosts: 835

WoW will be around for a long time to come. I mean wasn't WoW the EQ killer? Wasn't EQ the UO killer? Both games are still running. A game with 11 million subscriptions will be around for years and years. Hell, people still play Diablo 2 online in all of it's wretched glory. Blizzard could sell their fans turds straight out of the toilet and they'd eat it up for years. Many of these people aren't going anywhere.

Will Warhammer do well is probably the better question. I honesty have to say yes, yes, yes. Ever since I stopped playing EQ I've looked for a game that made me feel like I was part of a living world. Give me that feeling of something different. Where the stuff I do makes me feel like it matters. I came close with DAoC. Sadly that was the last MMO I truly had tons of fun in. I tried WoW, AO, COX, Vanguard, EQ2, AoC, LOTRO...you name it. I'm sure a lot of us have. While they're all decent games in their own rights, they are all missing that something we can't put our fingers on. Having played a certain game in Beta, I have found that feeling again. I am also not the type that normally likes PvP. The only time I've liked it was RvR in DAoC. Mythic is the only company that seems to get it. RvR on a global scale? Sign me up son.

I think WAR will do very well. I will say without a doubt they'll sit in the number 2 slot very comfortably. I think Mythic would be happy to be able to say that. It's all the games below #2 that should worry to be honest. Well that and if you're still playing WoW just for PvP in December, you're gonna miss out. A lot of these people, including myself, are waiting for something new and different to come along. I'm glad too, I almost gave up on MMO's. Haven't really played them outside of trying AoC since last October. But if they offered lifetime subs like LOTRO did (I know they won't, just saying) I would not hesitate one bit.

I don't have to acknowledge that wow is a good game, because i dont think it is. its an addictive game for people who like to prove something in an online world but i dont think it is a good game.

I would say the odds of that happening are extremely unlikely. Server merge is the kiss of death for an MMO. If a drop in players hits a specific set of servers particularly hard, all Blizzard would have to do is open up free transfers. I don't think we'll ever see forced merges in that game, as it will simply be unnecessary when they can just let players redistribute themselves on their own without giving their game a black eye in the process.

free transfers , merges what ever you want to call it . WoW will have less servers open 6 months from now .

also i don't know how many people WAR will pull away from WoW. i do expect the number to be a very large one though .
