I think people with extra accounts should be nice and offer to share them with the 4star and up members of this site. Why? Well, yes, I do want one, but here's my thought. Everyone's selling them on ebay so the price is dropping anyways. Secondly, those who are 4 stars and up tend to be serious gamers who want to TEST the product before it comes out and help find the bugs in it. Anyways, i doubt it'll happen, but I'd be a nice gesture from those who got extra accounts.

I already told Blizzard of 2 different sites running emulators for WoW. They'll be getting closed very soon. As for thoth, I'm glad you did. I'm glad not EVERYONE testing WoW is so greedy as to put their accounts for sale. Even if I had several hundred dollars to sink into an account, I wouldn't. Why? Because the beta accounts are being WIPED. In anycase, I'd like to see more people offering their second accounts up on here if they haven't done so. And not to be greedy myself, but if anyone could PM me on here if you're giving away a spare account, let me know.
(PS- Found someone on ebay quite literally selling his soul for a beta account. Just search WoW on ebay to see the pathetic person)

They back them up on machines and media that are stored in the SAME building... So people at most reserve a seperate room on maybe a different floor for backups......
Actually it is usually only differential backups that are stored in the same building. Full backups (usually weekly or monthly) are (or at least should be) stored in a vault off location. I work at a college and that is how I do it here.

It appears to me that the current testers are getting to pick the next round of beta people.
Due to an error on WOW's part they mailed new invites and keys to the testers that were already in and instead of fixing that mistake they have decided to just let all the testers friends and family have them. While this seems a generous gesture I certainly hope it doesnt mean that they are not going to invite "new" testers as well.
Here is the mail I found it posted on the beta boards at WOW.

From: worldofwarcraftbeta@blizzard.com T worldofwarcraftbeta@blizzard.com Sent: Thursday, September 23, 2004 8:07 PM Subject: Instructions for second authentication key
As you know, Blizzard is conducting a new phase of the World of Warcraft closed beta test. As a part of this phase, over 10,000 new beta account authentication keys were emailed to prospective testers.
Unfortunately, an error was made during the issuing of these keys and a number of current beta testers accidentally received a second authentication key.
Although it was never our intention to send additional keys to current testers, we feel it would be counterproductive to disable these keys when the opportunity presents itself to widen the beta test pool. Thus, we encourage you to distribute this second key to a friend. Please do not create a second account with your new key as this would be in violation of the Terms of Use agreement.
This email authorizes you to deliver the second authentication key, along with the original email instructions, to a friend whom you believe would make a valuable addition to the closed beta test. This person can then create an account to play World of Warcraft by visiting www.worldofwarcraft.com.
After creating a World of Warcraft account, your friend will need to contact Billing and Account Services at Billing@blizzard.com to change the email address associated with this second key. If your friend does not change the email address, then any future emails related to that account, including technical support information and instructions on downloading subsequent patches, will go to the original email attached to the second authentication key and not to your friend.
For quick access to each individual tester, and to comply with the Beta Test Terms of Use agreement, please ensure that whomever you give the second authentication key to immediately associates their email address to the second key.
Thank you for your continued support, and we hope to see both you and your friend in the World of Warcraft soon.

Originally posted by Tombs Two things over the past week are bugging me about Blizzard. The first is the tornado. I don't mind that the servers came down due to a natural disaster type event. That is something nobody can control and could hit servers anywhere. However, this is the part that bugs me... Posted on the wow server status section of the boards: Blizzard network engineers are currently testing server hardware for any indications of damage. We hope to have a thorough test completed within the next 24 hours and by then provide a more extensive update of when we can bring the servers back online. Initial reports indicate that all vital data is still intact, meaning players should be able to pick up where they left off. So there was a possibility if the storm were a little more powerful that there would have been an enormous character/item wipe? I am not in the IT field but big game companies like this don't, umm, back up data? I hope they learned a valuable lesson from this and do some of the basics for maintaining data integrity from here forward. Had this happened 4 months after release and been a little worse, what do you tell half a million people when their characters and items are gone LOL? The second thing is the beta invites... Word is that a good 70 percent of the invites they sent out were to people who got into the beta the first time around. As any good red blooded capitalistic American would do these people aren't emailing back, "Hey I am already in!" they are posting the second account on Ebay. Anyway, not a good week for Bliz or for my confidence in them.
No, game companies don't normally backup during beta phases, unless they are specifically testing the backup systems. Wipes are good, because then they get a whole new load of characters that hopefully do things different the second time; this way, more "areas" can be tested.
As for getting in, I wish... Ever since I went professional, I can't seem to get into free betas anymore. Oh well, not like I have the time for them anyways.

Keeping backups off-site is kinda costly when dealing with bigass servers like i hope they have
But i wouldnt interpret that message like they didnt have a backup, more likely they dont want to use the backup because it would probably mean a roll-back for a day or so, which is never popular. They were just concerned that the servers were'nt hurt, thats all....
Oh, and if you throw any wow beta accs my way id certainly be glad to try it out ^^ *wonders if he has 5 stars now or was downgraded*

Such a sad day, as Blizzard made a mistake. I suppose this was there way of resolving an unfortunate mistake. Thus meaning those that did sign up along time ago, really had no shot at getting into this phase of beta. Unfortunately, alot of those people in beta will not give to a friend, if one looks at ebay. So many dishonest people out there trying to make a quick dollar, and alot of good testers that will probably never see WOW beta.
A mistake is a gross understatement...for anyone to think that Blizzard deserves slack are idiots. . .and Hercules, take a powder. . .these forums are only dumbed down with your childish cries about a transaction that is completely acceptable now especially in light of Blizzards ignorance.
