What was hard to understand, i was in the beta since the begining, i enjoyed the game, i liked all the promised features, and decided this game would definatly be worth playing. Then a month or so back, they cut my class along with 3 others and 4 cities, and a lot of other smaller features. And then they made the statement that they will be added again after launch.
So basically in an effort to reacha deadline they cut buggy content instead of fixing it, broken content is broken content, just because they didnt go the route of AoC and release it doesnt change the fac that WAR will be an unfinished game come launch.
Ahh, I see. The original "cut" comment you made didn't fully hit me. You're one of those people. The ones who got so bitter when they cut content.
As far as I'm concerned, nothing is ever official until the retail game is in my hands. Especially in this genre.. where a good MMO gets to the point where there is new content being added and added (hence part of the monthly subscription).
Do you feel that since you have been with the game all along, you already own all the content they have talked about fitting into the release? So basically, they just stole your class away from you and are ransoming it off for your monthly subscription until they can find time to "fit it in".
When you preorder a game, it is nonsense to think you have all the details of the product you are going to receive. If the game wasn't going to change anymore, then you wouldn't be buying such an advanced preorder now would ya?
However that is an entirely different argument. Yours was simply that this MMO was the absolute biggest disappoint of the year for you in MMO's. Keep in mind you did say and I quote, "i dont feel this game will reach the accpetable place that will make buying it at launch worth while."
Then I said that you had told other people it wouldn't be a worthwhile purchase. (Here perhaps you would've liked me to add "AT LAUNCH" for you.)
Then you said, to the T, "Aweosme statement, now what you should od now is go back and re read my statement and tell me where i told anyone not to buy the game."
I am not seeing the correlation here. Your second comment there kinda sh*ts the bed if you know what I mean.
So you don't like my declaring your statement arrogant. They cut your content, made the game non-worthy in your eyes, and now it isn't a worthwhile purchase. Because they promisedto deliver those goodies. You said the amount of cuts they made far OUTWEIGHED the total VALUE of the game?!?! Ouch.
Mythic- don't feel bad. The three years of work put into the REST OF THE GAME, in MY OPINION, have potential to be "worthy".
You must be illeterate, you quoted me, and you quoted my opinion as if i told anyone too not go out and buy this game. I dotn give a fuck if people want to buy warhammer, they are going to buy it regardless, and the statement you quoted, said nowhere that i suggested people not buy it.
And yeah, i am bitter they cut my own draw too play the damn game, Last time i checked buying a game had something to do with the customer finding some enjoyment in it, if i am not going to enjoy it, i am not going to buy it with the hope that i might enjoy it at a later date. No i dont feel like they have relased all the content they intend to release over time, i just know the major draws, the cities battles, the class diversity are promises theyve shown they cant keep, and that is more then enough for me not to to buy the game at release. I dont care what the game will look liek 6 months from now, What matters to me is how it looks like at launch. And the date today is august 23, the games launch is in 30 days, if the game's current state is boring, and unfinished, you must think a miricle is going to happen in the next 30 days, and 30 days is too much credit, lets say 17 days, is when they finalize the client and ship it.
If i preorder a computer, and then 2 days before shipping they tell me the thing is too heavy, so they stripped the video card, the harddrive and the power supply, but dont worry, i will get them in 2 to 3 weeks, i would tell them to shove their system, give me my money back i will buy it froma company that can provide everything as orginally advertised from the start.
Shits the bed, i have no idea what that means, its 3 words too a saying that ive never heard used before in my life.
The problem with your enitre post is, you have no idea what the word opinion means.
And for th record.. i usually have a prety good record for the games i shit on. I said age of conan was going to fail, wa sin the beta for that, said hellgate would fail, i said fury, vanguard, archlord would all fail and they did. Im not here to convince people to save their money, there are hardcore fans that will buy the game regardless of its state, hardcore fans that will defend it regardless of its state.
I was just offering MY opinion on what MY IDEA of teh biggest dissapoint of 2008 would be, and i decided it is Warhammer, and do you know why i decided that, becuase WAR was the ONLY game i was looking forward too in 2008, and the game is boring, and offers nothing that is inspirational. Yeah sure warhammer will pull itself together... but not at launch, it will do it 5 or 6 months down the road. That is acceptable for somepeople to buy an unfinished product and pray for a few months that it is fixed, but id rather just wait for it to be fixed.
I will buy warhammer when they add the 4 classses back in, the 4 cities back in, the level advancement system that actually sounded cool, that whole, everytime you level up different things happen character wise, orcs get bigger, chosen get more menacing etc etc. And once they add all that stuff in, ill concider buying.
So yes i will say it, this game is the biggest, overhyped MMO of 2008, and it will fail the same way Age of Conan did, because it insist on using this "Promise now, impliment" later system like Age of conan and vanguard, and that shit is not going to fly anymore. You can remember this conversation for mid october, and we will see who has done a better job calling this game. I assure you, these forums are going to be rather interesting.

Roll up! Roll up! Place your bets - which MMO is going to be the biggest launch disappointment of 2008? Will it be AoC, with a lot of hype behind it (i.e. boobs and blood) but a pedigree that includes Anarchy Online, or will it be WAR, with a pedigree that includes DAoC, but also graphics and gameplay that seem lifted out of DAoC too? Or is there some other contender launching in 2008 that will set forums ablaze with nerd rage at it's incompleteness and ineptitude?
Hmmm, and here I thought this thread would have been about "What *have been* the biggest MMO disappointments" thus far this year.
It seems a little silly to me -- and premature -- to make predictions about what "will be" a disappointment.
Arguably, AoC sounds like it was a great disappointment for many (but not for me, since I had no interest in that game).
My vote for biggest MMO disappointments thus far this year were the cancellations of Gods and Heroes (which showed promise) and Mythos, although I suppose either MMO could be resuscitated at some point.
I have also been disappointed that nothing seems to be happening with Guild Wars/Guild Wars 2, at least from an information standpoint. ArenaNet makes a great game, but their PR is abysmal.
But ... it's all good. In the gap between my total boredom with WoW these days and my hopeful anticipation of GW2, I have to say LOTRO has been a real delight and the very opposite of a disappointment: an unexpected and very enjoyable surprise.
AOC has already disappointed by almost any measure.War WILL DISSAPOINT(yes I am a beta tester) and prove to be another "flash in the pan".I give the average player 60 days to start asking "where's the beef" ? If they have played DAOC.They will be saying that in less than 60 days.WOW...I cannot make myself play cartoon characters, but I am guessing the majority will be pleased with the new gameplay.

1) Warhammer Online - after trying it, I was rather disappointed
2) Age of Conan - Didn't rush out to get it when it released. Wasn't that interested in it to begin with. Thank god I didn't rush to buy it.
3) Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 - It still needs ALOT of work. It tries hard to capture the fun of the original Red Alert. It succeeds in same ways and fails in others.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
Ah, sadly this is a great question. One that I can answer but wish I couldnt. I really went into these games with optimism.
AoC just didnt grab me. The pvp battlegrounds were too much like WoW with the flags. Where did they get that camp voice which says 'the blue team have captured the flag'. The melee classes didnt seem varied enough for me. Too many instances. Tedious to find your friends. Laggy, especially in battlegrounds.
Warhammer is nice enough but just the same old thing. I am tired of this system, I yearn for something new (or old as in SWG). I think this will replace WoW for my 'this will do for now' game
I love playing mmorpgs inthe evening to relax but I find myself here more than in a game. I play WoW only because theres nothing different. Or play a little xbox, but I prefer to play on the pc.
Maybe earthrise will be my bag. I hope so. What else? I miss the old excitement.
Since I can only go on what's been released this year I can say Age of Conan so far wins the worst of 08.
A game should at least be techinally together.
Spend some time developers and make sure your game doesn't suffer out of memory issues, gray maps, and/or zoning issues for your game. Either that or watch it fail.
It's going to be hard to dissapoint me further this year since I've seen a game incapable of surpassing techinal difficulties.
Love how people are no longer predicting the biggest fail, but calling it done when two of the titles haven't even released yet. I had no idea gamers were so emotionally sensitive, this whole thing of how AoC "duped me" and "took my $50" etc, etc.

Lets see if you hold that frame of mind next month. WoW entry is preemptive, but War is in open beta, any opinions made about it now are valid, because the game is not going to drasitcally change in 1 month.

Man, for me, its a toss up between Warhammer or AoC. With AoC, its obvious, but its even worst that I bought into it. I think that will be the last time I EVER pre-order a game. Mainly because its my first time to pre-order a game so I will always have that bitter taste in my mouth.
Now with Warhammer, I was in the beta sense stage 2. I have always wondered why the other four classes was never in the game but did not give it a thought until stage 3 started and found out about the cuts. That instantly killed it for me. Sure, they can cut whatever but as soon as they cut CLASSES that they have always said was going to be in...sorry, will not give you my money.
Either way, it doesnt matter what I think, make your own decisions. Oh, btw, WotLK, who cares?
MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.
Sure, they can cut whatever but as soon as they cut CLASSES that they have always said was going to be in...sorry, will not give you my money. Blah blah blah blah bitch bitch Blah blah blah blah bitch bitch Blah blah blah blah bitch bitch
Imagine someone saying they were going to do something but in the end figuring that it wouldn't be the best idea.

every MMOG out there cut content.
classes, features, areas and so on.
I frankly do not care what they cut months before release as long as they do not cut it on release day and say "soon tm" like AoC did.
I do not care if there are 100 classes or 15 as long as the game is balanced enough.
right now, whatever class I try, I feel useful. I think class balance is excellent and I am missing nothing.
sometimes less is more and the decision to cut those classes and give some of their abilities to other classes was a sound and far sighted decision.
would I like more classes with the exact same balance? sure, but that was not possible obviously. or they would have needed more time.
I wished AoC had scrapped 4 classes and 2 cities and voice overs and titties and instead gave us good gameplay.
they did not. they focused on the wrong things.
Mythic said: "shit happens, let's move on" and made the game better and more balanced.
if you were so much in love with your class, I feel for you. biut what's the point in playing an overpowered or underpowered class in release?
I play beta and WAR delivers on every feature they promised. I do not consider more classes a feature.
working RvR, looting in RvR (without players losing items),
XP in RvR, public quests, tome of knowledge. these are features. and they are there and work great
I think the first half of 2008 was a disappointment; but 3rd/4th quarter looks like its going to be awesome, although not so much the MMO genre unless you like WoW.
