The game never had a problem looking pretty - that is something they did well. How about screenshots showing a fun, engaging, working game with a fleshed-out combat system?

I do not think many people care that much about DX10 being added to pretty things up, to be honest.

I feel that's all they have going for them and they know it. Let's throw out screens like we did before launch. It's the same garbage they did before launch and now their trying to use that same technique again.

Honestly, i would love to get excited about a graphic upgrade that was supposed to be done months ago, but i cant.  I will never get the chance to see it. I canceled my accnt. already, due to the game lacking any kind of content whatsoever. I would strongly sugest you quit worring about your screenshots and maybe spend a little time working on the game. This isnt art class, what are we suposed to do ingame?? sit around and stare at the buildings? Because thats about all the content available to your players atm.

     You already failed, go home.

I will honestly say the graphics are very well made. I wish I could say the same about content & PvP. Graphics weren't that big of an issue to me. As for expansion, I won't say a thing, except I'm not buying a Funcom product again.

RIP Blackguard. May a resurrection come.

Good news for those still playing AoC. I wonder how layering in DX10 will affect the much needed tech fixes.

I think it's great they are (finally!) adding DX10, but I have to wonder how many will switch to DX10 and switch back to 9? I hear it was a problem with some LOTRO players who found good performance go to bad after switching to DX10.

EDIT: Very first pic underwater is gorgeous!

  • The game was shown with DX10, but Funcom refused to date the patch it will be coming in

water caustics don't need DX10, are a simple feature, even some Quake 2 engines include

Have to ask why the DX9 images have gamma /contrast  set higher than the DX10 pictures.

This to try make them look more washed out by any chance.

  • mezlabormezlabor Member Posts: 133

Nothing new here. They've been showing off dx10 images from well before launch... when it was promised to us at launch. Even a month before launch they promised dx10 at launch. Too little too late. Screw you Failcom.

The DX10 version look better,   I think you can get this effects in DX8 or even lower versions of DX, with emulation... slighty slower than with DX10.     Anyway I suspect that setting shaders 4 on the engine  will make rendering slower, so.. what is the gain?.     Having this features in DX9 and the ability to enable or disable these individually sould have be a better option.     Also, I have to say that water caustics have zero useage in conan, because monsters don't enter water, players don't enter water. water is unused in conan, no one look inside water.

What I would have love, Is improvements on the character skin rendering, soo looks more natural. There are something IMPORTANT.   Better tits are more important than water caustics, Mr. Tomasz.

LOL - Sornin nails it. +1.

The game already looked great, though DX10 *is* tasty. We want a finished game. We want to stop paying for Beta quailty stuff. We want you to fix the lag spikes that are killing us while fighting. We want you to provide more content that doesn't require grinding or running across 5 zones to drop a letter off...

An expansion? 3 months after release? C'mon guys...fix what you've shipped. Don't try to build on it...

I have been in water in Conan and swam underwater also. So I looked underwater, not sure where you got your ideas from.

I think his point is that you can't fight underwater, so most people don't even go into the water unless they are running away from a mob and jump in to break the aggro. When I played, I only went into the water a handful of times - once being right when you wash up on shore to grab that treasure chest. So who cares how good it looks underwater, I mean are people going to be doing quests in there? Are people going to be socializing in water? They should focus on other areas to improve the graphics, like adding more color so everything isn't so drab-looking.

    Wow, look it's DX10!

Looks like Funcom has to hype the BS that was supposed to be in at launch just to maintain what few subscribers they have left, or possibly pull in a few more saps that don't know any better.

They hyped the hell out of DX10 for a year and a half prior to release only to pull the rug out from under our feet. Shame on you Funcom, and those of you trying to push the Funcom agenda and screw over your fellow gamers.

    Just an observation.

It's interesting that DX10 is still not in the game because a couple of days ago I picked up a retail box here in Australia and it clearly said "DX10" on the box.

In Australia, that means the company is guilty of

I think it's because so much fuss has been made about the lack of DX10 at launch, despite the mentioning of it on the box.

Though, my impression isn't that people felt it *that* important to have in terms of "omg I wanna play in DX10"... I think it's more in line with "One more thing promised and not delivered on".

So... I suppose they're hoping adding the DX10 will bring people back...

If they're betting on that... heh... Graphics are all "ooh ahh" for a little while, but after a while, you get used to them and what you're left with is the gameplay and content... And those are the areas I think AoC's real issues have been.

    /indifferent

The whole DX 10 for AoC was promoted before launch, and wasn't there at launch, despite it saying so on the damn box.

So should we be impressed with FC **finally** implementing something they promised to us on launch?

There was actually a thread about that on here a little while back.

The consensus seemed to be that, were it taken to court, the wording on the box basically could be interpreted as "the game is ready for DX10, but that doesn't mean DX10 is actually implemented"... basically.

In other words... FC even left themselves trap-doors to weasel out of their own BS right on the retail box, full knowing people would take that as meaning they could install it and play in DX10 out of the box.

I wonder what the patch size is going to be for this update and the pvp patch combined?  Seriously, has anyone got a figure on how big the total patch size is from vanilla AoC 1.0 to its current state?  I think a lot of current players who have been patching gradually have no idea just on how big it is.  It was reaching into the GB size just a few weeks into the games release.

Someone argued with me once that its because of the high end graphics etc...thats BS. It's not like they have been adding in complex textures and major content since release...why are the patches so large? well...they are about to get bigger.

I hope they realize that many countries have capped broadband internet usage and the thought of GB downloads instantly turns them off playing the game.

All dx10 will do is cause those folks who have good rigs capable of playing AoC at a decent frame rate to experience  hitching (or more of it......especially when there is lots of activity on the screen)  and those folks who are barely able to play experience lots of hitching (or become completely unplayable) forcing many more to quit.

Sure there will be an option to play using dx9 but for the hardcore gamer who spent thousands on a shiny new rig, complete with the best video card(s), dx9 will not be good enough.   Its my guess most AoC subscribers are hardcore.  AoC looked fine as it was at least until other things could be fixed first.

Anarchy online players will experience the same frustrations when funcom releases the graphic update this year (thats what I was told but could be false).  I believe alot of those folks are using very old rigs.  There is video of this update on youtube.  The graphics look to be near AoC quality.

    Shiny graphics are overrated.

At least they are finally rolling it out. I think this game stinks, but ii'm drooling over what the game will look like...if I upgrade to that 8GB ram system...

Its an option for those that want it. The hardware industry has been screaming out for the software to catch up and now its starting to happen.

If I have an expensive rig, I would like the choice to play in what ever API is on offer, the better, the better for me justfying my hobby and enthusiast hardware.
