They need to focus on now not late next year. When are they going to give us the things listed on the first bow we bought from them? At this point I would not consider buying anything else ffrom their sorry #$#$^%*&(*((@#(@().
I find this disturbing. They have yet to get the features fixed and implemented listed on the box and they are worried about a expansion over a year from now? They need to focus on their broke assed game and make it stable. And while they are at it adding the content promised on the box and just after release would be a big plus.
Who cares about more fantasy vaporware for next year from the king of vaporware Failcom. Ive been seeing all kinds of stuff they say they are going to relaese for 4 years now and still have not seen most of that materialize in their game.

Most game development company’s start work on an expansion shortly after release. This is nothing new. This has nothing to do and has no impact on its live development and maintenance.

Stop desperately clutching to month old subscriber numbers that have undoubtedly decreased substantially. And don't come back with "Those are August numbers!", because they're not. They're the numbers from the end of June, and include trials, cancelled accounts with time remaining, accounts on first free month, etc. Not to mention only a 50% retention of 800,000 boxes sold and less than 1/3 continuing profit from 1.2 million boxes shipped.
They are just hyping AoC. Remember that WAR and other games are going to be released soon. This expansion buzz is to help the sales of the current game. They need to do some damage control, so an expansion announcement is perfect for them. Pretty much they want people to think that this game is doing great and that's why an expansion is coming.
And what about the Xbox version? I haven't heard nothing about it for awhile.
Edit: I swear I read Funcom say that the expansion was coming early 2009. I guess they have a lot to work with.

Why not? Failcom love to take every little money you got. You dont think ppl will pay $40-50? Hey people paid $3.99 for a FREE trial.
Free one will be call patch (or brokepatch or bugpatch in failcom's term), expension will prob cost $30 for other company but you never know how much Failcom will charge.

Anyway to the point. While sometimes expansions do start before launch, this game was not even through its intial development cycle. Usually after launch there is a drop off of devs since they go into different projects.
Honestly the best PR move they could make is not to announce expansions but rather announce that they pulled the expansion devs back to the main game to fix issues. Sometimes more bodies can be a bad thing but I am sure there was a drop off after launch. Even if they just SAY ( as in spin some news) that they have more people working on the main game it would give the impression that they are doing something right.

I can remember when they talked expansion on the old forums back before 2007 and inital concepts they were coming up with - there were polls asking what races the community would like to see and these polls were recreated every 8 months or so. They also made a statement about expansion idea's at last years E3 and CG. Naturally as these shows happen, of course they will still talk about it. To begin with, remember when everyone was saying the xbox 360 version will come out right after the PC launch? That was forum hype and guesswork. FC always maintained they will release the 360 version around a year or so after the PC version. 10 months ago they said that the 360 version will release with the content for the expansion. So when they have the 360 version down for latter half of 2009 and all we have is 1 picture of concept art for the expansion, 30 + job posting on their website with them asking for 360 programmers for many, many months now, what does that tell us?It would be easy to assume, expansion comes latter half in 2009 when you put 2 and 2 together.
So whats going to happen between now and then? Exactly what they talked about at this years GC. So how someone can come to the conclusion this a bad thing for the game is just crazy imo. They are patching the game up, working on getting new content in working beforehand and delaying some previously mentioned content to make sure it launches in game properly. I'd rather have them take longer adding the new working content when it comes that bust stuff and in the mean time continue to improve on whats in there. So to me that shows a pretty decent roadmap.
So what we have here are lots of people who don't play getting all agitated over 1 piece of concept art, and the announcement that happened a few days before game release that this is what will happen at this show in 3 months time. So here we are having it happen and for some reason its an issue.

What you say is common for those who left the game and come to the forums. Its like you need the support in your decision to leave, and to convince others to do the same. I enjoy the game, its worth my money and I re-evaluate this decision on a monthly basis just like the many, many other people that feel the same way.

Well, I don't. I expected a MMORPG, not a MORPG. The DirectX 10 is a lie and so are the epic 1xxvs1xx battles. The endgame PvE is a failure so this game sucks on both sides. Don't care if games are buggy at release, they promised us they will have those features...but they aren't there.

That's not true, not only the people that post here, or anywhere feel this way. There are plenty of people that doesn't post about this plate of shit that feels the very same way. Kudos to the haters for saving some people money, the final decision is still up to the individual to buy the game or not, no one is holding a plate of sh...uh.. gun to someone's face.
