This video is pitiful - nothing but a bunch of crappy models walking around in a barren landscape one-shotting everything. If you carefully watch the video, you'll notice there is no real combat - no healing, no abilities, no buff or debuff icons, no nothing. Just a few swings of an axe and a force push animation by a caster. Good job guys.
Look at the facts people - this game has been in "development" for 8 years, and not one major publisher has touched it. Why do you think? If it was such a good game, it would be published. Take that at face value.
This game will end up somewhere between Dark and Light and Horizons (and no where near Shadowbane). Good luck with that.

Sadly i have to admit you could be right..i was quite shocked from that video..its horrible..
Dark and Light is still hard to top lol..cant believe someone will manage to screw up a game again like that.
You have no idea if they are using skills or not in melee.
Were you expecting big flashing lights like WOW and AOC? Read about a game before posting drivel like this.
Actually i think he talks about the artwork, the horrible char animations, the total lack of atmosphere and yes the graphics do look sub-par (nobody here asks for flashy wow crap)..the whole thing looks like glued together.
i expected much more for all that dev time they had and i think people will be pretty disappointed..its sad, im totally not happy about that fact.
No. It will not be the next Dark and Light. Main reason being this game will never be lauch. Sad to see it only take a poorly made video to make everyone excited.
Well, luckily, if this falls out, Mortal Online claims that several publishers approached them at the GDC. Maybe MO will be our new beackon of hope if DF fails, which I hope it doesn't, but fear it will.
You prefer massive single player RPG aka WoW or AoC with decent graphics?
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

Darkfall is interesting to me (and others) because of what you can do in it. There's a lot of stuff in this game that is new and exciting. When the game is published it will probably find a niche' market for us old MMO gamers that are more interested in doing something new than we are in making pretty elves with cleavage.
And not that Darkfall looks all that great, because it doesn't, but anybody who claims that WoW is a good looking game deserves to have their eyes ripped out.
There is a very high possiblity that it will be a D&L, but it's worth following it in case it turns out to be what they claim.

This game was hyped as the next TRUE, ruthless pvp game, a la Shadowbane. That was what I was hoping for. But it will never be even close to Shadowbane.
To all the "fans", what is your explanation for the fact that every single publisher has passed on this game. Why do you think that is so?

I think he just prefers to see this game look like it was made to come out in 2008/2009. Not something that looks like it was developed around the time when DaoC and Shadowbane just came out. The game looks dated. People flocking at the video thinking it's the greatest thing since the bible need to look deeper. What will you be doing when you aren't in combat?
On a side note I noticed someone in another post mentioning collision detection being in Darkfall. But I saw no collision detection in that video. Either way, the video in my opinion looks dated.
Err...I'm only going to say this due to the title...
LOL ROFLMAO
Dakr and Light was crap, turned in F2P which stated it as crap. And go sued for using someones engine illegally. You just mocked DFO!
Oh I get it, I thought you were a fanboi...
What the hell are you taking about?? You can clearly see the combat when they try to hit and parry. Then you can see healing done by the Alfar .
And something important for DF: Everything is there to see, if you look for it. Im almost getting tired of people that think they will be served with all information from the devs or something. Look and you will find.

And when we got more women on the team, it was like No, no, no. We need puppies and horses in there.
John Smedley, SOE
actually the game Mourning topped dark and light by alot......
Well I suppose once you weren't able to call it vaporware you have to declare that it'll be a failure. The tunes change with the times. What I really want to know is if you seriously believe this, or if you're doing the obvious, trolling.
For those who may be swayed by a misguided troll, I'll correct you. We saw a bunch of high detail character models (very good facial animations and customization is seems) swinging a bunch of swords around, moving in circles, blocking, and generally taking some time to kill people, sniping with bows, rows of archers crouched infront of another row for maximum fire, and cavalry charges. Only one shot I saw was the lich that caught someone from behind, and the very end of the video.
As for barren landscapes, I really didn't think the rafts floating under a bridge down a river, fishing, was really barren. The ice landscapes, walking through a city, through an underground cave to see a giant tree at the center of a lake, floating platforms above a large canyon, elevators taking people into the tree tops. Port cities, tiny little towns next to a river bank... All so very barren.
We also saw a group of 4 casters healing themselves and doing some sort of ritual spell, at least 10 different spell effects that I could count aside from the ordinary fireball, many of them involving physics, which we haven't seen actually used in a game yet.
Maybe if you hadn't been blind you would have noticed that there was almost NO UI in the video, as is customary with most trailers. They showed the UI a few times when it was relevant, like trading and crafting. So no, you didn't see any debuff icons. So there was no healing, no abilities, so I guess people just flew on their own accord, it wasn't a spell or anything, and I guess those floating + signs were just there for cool factor.
The game has been in development for 5(FIVE) years, not 8, no idea how you came up with that number. And there haven't been any publishers because most mainstream publishers would try to change the game to make it more mainstream. You can see it
EA: "So yeah, looks like a good product there but, I think you should add some levels, you know, less absract. And some safe zones would be good. Yeah, do that and we'll publish ya!"
Show me records saying no publisher has touched it. Seems to me a fairly large European publisher has the rights to it now. Audio Visual is a extremely well established, successful, and old publishing company in Europe and they're making an entire new divison of their company just to publish Darkfall.
Darkfall Travelogues!
wow they still make you? its like finding a brand new atari game in the store.

Hate to rain on your parade but Darkfall IS STILL 100% VAPORWARE.
Until it actually launches that's all it will ever be.
Releasing some outdated mediocre looking video does not change the fact.
I love how the fanboys think they're all "right" now or something based on some shoddy looking video that looks like it was recorded from a game that had about a years worth of development put into it... not 7 years..
Gullibility to the end.
There are a number of reasons why a Publisher might have passed on Darkfall. In the past, games have been passed on by one publisher only to be signed by another and become massive hits. A number of factors that could have contributed to not being able to sign a bigname publisher:
1. Aventure's contract and Publisher's contract offers might have been to far off.
2. Darkfall's graphics, which I admit are not next-gen though they are not bad either, didn't meet what the Publisher wanted (big shame if that was it).
3. Darkfall simply is a bug fest, horrible game and might be the next Dark and Light (something none of us here knows either way).
4. Darkfall's issue with the copyright here in the US of the name (haven't read much into that though).
5. Publishers don't want to publish a sandbox game since they are well aware of how Shadowbane and several other sandbox games ultimately ended up.
6. Aventurine being a new company (could tie into number 1 as well) with unknown developers leading it and thus the Publisher either doesn't trust them or demands way to much ownership/control.
There could be other factors. So just because they haven't landed a major publisher doesn't necessarily mean the game is the next Dark and Light, Mourning, etc. Though there is a possibility it might be and there really is no one here who can say either way.

Let me make it very plain for you, since you obviously skipped this part in my last post.
They.
Have.
A PUBLISHER
And no, its not a "we'll think about it" contract. Its a full fledged division of an old, and wealthy publishing company, who made a press release about developing DARKFALL. I love the Atari analogy, I suppose when the box hits Europe first (if thats the way it goes) then you'll still call it vaporware cause you can't buy it at your Wal Mart.
So, publisher + beta + magazine articles + press releases + stock information + video = ...vaporware? Good god, what more could you possibly want?
Darkfall Travelogues!
In response to number 1...developers have openly stated that they have had discussions with interested publishers, but did not follow through because they want to keep a lot of control of the evolution of the game post release, and that the deals they were hearing did not allow them to do that.
I dont know much about DF's publisher, Audiovisual, but aparently DF liked them enough to sign up with them

Yea the one downside with the awsome video and beta info is that the publisher news has been swept under the rug.
The was a press release from a source different than aventurine that explained how Audiovisual will be publishin DF and everything is good to go.
But guys like tsitluc practice selective recognition and just choose to ignore that fact so they dont have to own up to the fact that its not vaporware.
and dlore glad you liked it lol

What's there to know?
It's some unknown DVD replication company.
Amazing they chose to go with them with all the other offers from major video game publishers they must have gotten.. Eh???
wake up.
I was in the Warhammer Beta preview weekend and i can tell you without a doubt that nobody is going to be playing this over Warhammer. The game has more content than WoW , amazingly fun combat , stable , and on full settings makes Darkfall graphics look like some retarded child made them.

Age of Mourning used the same "publisher." Now, this is getting interesting.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
One thing that I have not seen mentioned in this thread, or in the video, is any type of UI. Aside from other things mentioned by previous posters, this is the other thing points to the possibility of this video being pure hype-booster, and not in any way indicative of the game's quality or chance of launching.
Isn't it possible, since we are not seeing how the characters are being controlled(as in a couple clips of some type of user-interface), that this was all pre-rendered, and therefore not actual in-game footage?
Waiting for:
-Games-
-Re-Launch of Hellgate:London US/EU Servers
-Diablo 3
-A PvE centric MMORPG with-
-Fast paced twitch-action combat that requires hand-eye coordination, where you can manually aim your attacks instead of having to acquire/lock target(s) first.
-FPS-style WASD and mouse control that determine your overall success when attacking or defending.
