2 gigs of ram
1.8ghz dual core processor
I have another 2 empty slots for ram and a 775 chipset for processor, if there is anywhere I need to upgrade, suggestions are welcome.

You will be ok with XP
For Vista, 2 more gigs of ram.
...
The processor and graphics card should be fine, but you may wish to upgrade the ram (especially since the prices are pretty low nowadays) if you are running vista. If you have xp, then your setup should be fine with WAR, imo.
Cheers!
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
yeah im on xp
XP will be fine. If you have the $$ though, get the extra 2GB RAM and make sure it matches the existing. You'll see a benefit to all your apps, not just WAR.
I CAN RUN IT!!! All pass!! *does the happy dance*
What good is the extra 2gb of memory going to do in XP?
At best you MAY be able to get it to utilise 3gb with the /3gb switch but i've never seen the benefit in XP or it register the full 3gb.

3gigs is tops for xp. Hell 3 gigs is top for anything but 64bit vista.
Everyone says get 4 gigs with vista but 32 really doesnt fully support more than 3.

Why does everyone forget that there is a 64 bit XP?!
lol please dont give technical advice like that.. 2 gig will be fine with that chip..

Dual Vista 32 and Xp
You could run Windows 2003 server 32bit and switch on DirectX and all the other bits you need for gaming and utilise a full 4gb but its not ideal.
I bought Vista 64 then found out that NVidia decided not to support Vista with AGP cards/chipsets, so im stuck right now without being made to buy a new rig just to run Vista.
This was more annoying as I bought NVidia 7800 GS+ 512mb which overclocks to 550/700 and blows away everything i've thrown at it bar Crysis.
Probably the reason im really swaying towards ATI for my next build.
Driver support for XP 64 bit is poor from recollection and i've read countless reviews by gamers for gamers saying forget it..... unless you can convince me otherwise!?
to adress several issues in this thread.
first: if you can i would upgrade that 1.8 ghz to 3 ghz if you can, its not required but youll be glad you did if you can get an e8400 or whatnot into that board.
second: vista 64 bit is wonderfull with vista era hardware there are no support issues, its old xp era stuff that came from companies too lazy to update to vista drivers that fails to work, agp vid cards sound cards from the 90s ancient printers ect. i have 2 machines (my desktop and my portable laptop that i take to work both have 3 ghz dual cores 4 gigs of 800mhz ram and vista 64 bit and both run great, both running 8800 nvidia cards, the desktop just a single the laptop came with sli gtx hehe)
third: ya if the can you run it meter says youre ok and you get open beta or whatnot and it runs at a level you can stomach youre good to go, otherwise if it seems to chug and what not the bottle necks are definitly a sub 2 ghz dual core and the 8600, as long as you dont try max settings you should run smooth as butter from what i can tell though
Anyone else got anything to say on XP 64 bit? I'm generally reading a lot of conflicting accounts of how worthwhile an upgrade this would be purely for playing a game like Warhammer. The general consensus though seems to lean towards the fact that the game itself probably won't bother utilising more than 2 gigs anyway, and that improvements in upgrading to 64 bit are few and far between.
But as I say, that's just the general consensus and I wondered if anyone else wanted to add anything.

So.... I shouldn't get 4 gigs of ram?? BTW I have xp home edition service pack 2.. ty
friend, your machine is same as mine and I had NO problems in CB, you will be just fine. Or you can upgrade if you got $$ to throw around.
I have 64 bit xp don't bother with it. It still only recognises 3.3 out of 4 gigs of my ram, I tried fiddling once but it wrecked more than fixed. I have done some reading and basicaly with xp its pot luck if you will see more than 3 gigs.
If your going for 64bit get vista, however currently I would not recommend 64 bit to anyone.
32 is the safe option everything works with it and sure you might be slightly limited but nothing needs more than 2 gigs to run efficiently, unless the game is severly broken.
E8500s are about $10 more than the E8400 on Newegg, I've read articles stating these can be OC to 4.3Ghz with just air cooling and still stay stable.

32bit = 4GB RAM limit., no matter how you look at it.. what you can use is something else.. sence about 500MB is use by system resources, and is you have 500MB graphics card, you get 3GB, if you have a higher graphic card you get even less usable RAM..
Want to play: Lego Universe
So.. what should I do ^.^

Remember aswell that if you have more than the allocation of RAM in your system, that the RAM on your Graphics Card will be defunced too
I have the same video card but a faster CPU (AMD X2 5600+) and it's not much faster than your Intel and 2GB RAM on XP. My rig pushed a 24" monitor at 1920 x 1200 in CB just fine. 25-35+ FPS all the time. I noticed that WAR hammers (no pun intended) on the CPU. Had both cores running pretty high most of the time.
Be careful about adding 2 more sticks of 1GB RAM. Some mobos have known issues with 4 sticks (I think ASUS is one of them).
Even if you run XP 32-bit, 3.5 GB > 2 GB and RAM is so cheap... might as well get it.
For electronics, I'm a believer in waiting until you absolutely need it. Upgrading to an E8400 is still pricey now, and you might not see a night-and-day boost in performance. Try out the game on release, and if you want it to run faster, then think about upgrading. Otherwise just wait and I guarantee the same part will be cheaper in 2 months.
The best thing about electronics is it gets cheaper every day. I hate buying the part and seeing the price drop the next day I still have scars from buying the G3 iPod 2 days before the G4 release.
Right, I see a lot of people talking about ram and video cards making each other worse, so please explain this information whilst answering this question ( IF you do ^.^):
I just went to a computer store to find out what would be good to do with my pc, the guy suggested another 1 gig, or maybe 2 gigs, making it 3 or 4, but it didnt really matter, which one would be better?
Also, they sell 3 video cards, he reccomended 2 to me, an 8600gtg but with 512 mb memory, and another 8600gt, but with 1 gig of memory, which one of these would be better since people are saying 1 gig on the card makes your ram bad? :S
One more thing, the last card they sell is a 512mb 8800GT, but he said nothing about this, why ? Can I not have one on my system, is it a bad card, isit a worse card??
Cheers.
The only thing that might be a problem with the 8800GT is a) the size of the card and b) the power requirements.
Personally i'd upgrade to 64bit vista, get 2 more gb of ram and the 8800gt if you can afford all of that.
Make a difference!
Heard bad things about vista tbh. Not too keen.
