How is War on vista?

I was thinking of trying vista again. I had problems playing Eq2 and switched back to xp. Has anyone had any problems in Beta? What about direct X 10 ?

EQ2 is the only game I have had a problem with in Vista.

    Oh, and no dx10.

    whats xp ? ;)

y move to Vista .. you wont look back ever as long as you keep your drivers  and OS updated imo.

I don't play the beta, but with other games my frame rate is much less than it was in XP.  DirectX 10 doesn't really add much that is noticable.  Stick with XP if it's working for you now.  I've had too many problems and performance issues with Vista.  I have Vista and SP1 installed, wish I had XP.

    Works fine. 100% no problems.

If anything (at least imo) the game runs better on Vista.

People were complaining about CTDs left and right, however over the last closed beta and preview weekend I barely had 5.

Perhaps different system specs have something to do with it but otherwise, go for Vista. Also, I'm fairly certain in the menu there was a DX10 option, only you couldnt click on it?

Perhaps I'm thinking of another game though.

Vista works great for WAR and EQ2 and every game I have tried on it (with the exception of COH/COV). The big thing is to make sure your hardware is also vista compliant. Those that experience problems most likely have non certified vista hardware. I love vista, I would never go back.

BTW, Directx 10 support is out - but DX10 is not out yet unti October! That is why no one sees any real difference. The shaders are supported now, but-that-is-it! When DX10 hits, graphics are going to rock!

I've had no problems with Vista since I got it on my new rig.

As for DX10, you won't notice it in any game unless it utilizes DX10 specifically.

I found the same thing - lower frame rates. I haven't used Vista in a few months and I see no reason to reinstall it.

If you don't own a copy, I wouldn't suggest going out and purchasing one. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing it can offer that would justify the money it costs.

never had an issue with WAR on vista so far.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

The problem is, people are going to have to move up to Vista eventually. Just delaying the inevitable. As far as Warhammer goes, I didn't have any problems running with everything maxed, just some lag as I crossed into new map areas. I didn't suffer any CTD's or slowdowns.

Most of the problems arising with Vista is associated with the crappy security controls Vista has, in their misguided attempt to take control of the OS away from the ignorant user. The problems I have run into were easily solved by putting the program in compatibility mode and running it in administrator mode. It should be noted I didn't need to do this with Warhammer though, it's usually with older software.

Basically the general rule of thumb is, if you have new equipment, go Vista, and if you're using older equipment, stick with XP. As far as the frame rate loss you suffer, if you're using new equipment, you won't notice it with the naked eye, so it's kind of pointless to go on about it.

From what I can tell from playing through some of the closed beta and the preview weekend, WAR runs great on Vista. In all honesty, I haven't had any trouble with any games I have played using Vista.

Or you can work around the security controls by turning them off and just turning the firewall on if you're concerned about security ;p

all i keep hearing is windows 7, omg windows 7, windows 7 will be so much better, EVERY OS THAT MICROSOFT HAS MADE ALWAYS SUCKS UNTILL IT GETS A SERVICE PACK. Back before they did server packs, same deal, except ME was just crap all around.

We will here the same damn thing come windows 7, omg no support, it takes up so much memory, why does my pc lag, they need updates its the same thing.

Vista made a leap and people wernt ready for it. IF you have a Pc made within the past year or 2 then you can run it fine and see no issue.

as far as i know vista was a complete flop.  Big companies did not upgrade their computers over to Vista because it was and is such a horrible OS.

Just look it up.  XP was selling more than Vista.  They are revamping Windows 7 so its not such a hog like vista.   Hopefully the monopoly microsoft wont flex their power more and give out another garbage product.

A lot of people went from 98 to XP, skipping right over Windows ME.

Vista may simply be the new ME.

Back on topic. I had quite a few crashes during beta in Vista U64 w/ my 8800gt, but since I upgraded my video card drivers to 175.19 I haven't had one.

I'm hoping my next OS is by Google ;)

    PS.  Google Chrome rocks

Alot of companies did not go to vista because it ment having to also purchase all new perephials (printers/scanners etc etc) they would have also needed to upgrade all their other software to vista compliant too.

Vista itself ran 80-85% slower than XP, (vista SP1 made it a bit quicker to 70%) however you still have to hunt for that as it does NOT auto scan in the microsoft auto updates as most PC's are blocked (scans your pc and if it doesnt liek anything it blocks you from seeing vista sp1 download).

Some actual vista stuff is actually better than XP, but most was not. 1 of my main problems was having the - you cannot do that, you must be logged in as the computer administrator to perform that action (christ i was logged in as the damn administrator). I gave up after that and formatted and went back to XP.

I got fed up with compatibility issues with older games and yanked Vista off my system to put XP Pro SP3 back on my system.

The performace difference was night-and-day for almost all of the games I'd bothered to load onto my hard drive while using both OS's.

Games loaded faster, stuttered less, and had far, FAR less 'load lag' (where you're in a game, but the game is still rendering a ton of objects, such as right after logging in or zoning) on XP SP3.  I've no idea how War compares between the two.

Now, my experience obviously won't be the same as everyone else's, but you have to take into consideration that most of the people that reply to these kinds of questions won't have thoroughly tested games on both operating systems.

It's one thing to say, "Yeah, this game runs well in Vista, I have no complaints," and it's another thing entirely to say, "But I'd get 20 more FPS in XP."

It runs great for me using Vista.

So long as you have a relatively new computer it'll work fine.

A lot of the negativity comes from people trying to run it on their 486.

So, to clarify, your solution to people that don't like Vista's performance is to invest hundreds of dollars into new hardware to run Vista, so Vista can run games just as well as they ran on the system and OS they already had?

Umm, no. My solution for those people would be to stick with XP.

I am running Vista 32 bit and game ran fine for me. No FPS issues or anything else. I have a decently updated computer that is built with the demands of Vista in mind however and so dont expect to have any problems.

As for the poster wanting to compare xp to vista and framerates and everything. I only care does the game run good on my system. If it does then whether it might run faster on another OS is irrelevant to me. Right now Vista is the future..XP is the past and you will more and more likely run into compatibility issues with XP with fewer and fewer recourses available as developers stop bothering to support it. For now though XP is still fine and every game still seems to work all right on it...so either way I dont see the OS as being that big a deal.

The real question..do you have the hardware to support it. The graphics I saw on open preview weekend werent all that demanding or looked cutting edge or anything so I imagine even lower end systems will be able to handle the game just fine.
