Ah, but at least it is in good spirit and reasonable.  The information on the website is at least credible as far as assuming how the game will go.

No, actually some of us research dev journals and other official information. Anything else?

It's a shame, this decent thread is starting to spiral down a dark path.  Can't this one little thread be left well enough alone to it's purpose?  I see little reason not to let it live in harmony, after all it is much more constructive than Darkfall threads generally are.

Just something for everyone to consider.

good thread but i would just like to add that this Q&A thread  http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?t=57229     has a ton of info.

also another reward that i havent seen mentioned yet for killin off a guild or group is to control that land which has resources that you can mine for crafting and such.Ive read that if your guild controls that land and someone else mines it your guild will get a message with that persons name.

I read that as well. I know that you can also hire NPCs to farm resources for you and that someone can take them out but will you get a notification for that, anyone know? It would be nice to know who offed your employees lol.

How about mount? Can you get a mount from the word go? Is there different speeds depending which mount you use? Do they also have different abilities, like a horse can carry your load? Or even mount that can swim?

    Thx

Good info, thank you. Hope they will add rare mount in future, or even flying mounts

Just a personal view. I do hope they add a pve server. Im 1 of those carebears that you guys call. Would like to explore the world in peace and do my own crafting in finding rare mods etc...

I'm not sure their engine is set up for flying mounts but possibly hovering.

I read that they have no plans on creating separate servers with different rule sets so don't get your hopes up too much. But you can always get into a good guild (possibly a crafting guild) for protection. Plus, if you get a reputation as a fair and honest crafter, people will take care of you.

I do understand though, UO was a rough place, I got dropped a few times myself hehe.

Aye no flying mounts as far as I know.

I think overall it's a good thing to only have one rule set. Once you start having different rule sets it takes programmers more time to set things up and I'd rather they focus on what they already have in place. I'm not real sure how a PvE Darkfall server would do anyway, the entire game is designed around PvP so...

The PvE that's already in place looks enticing anyway.

Yep great thread that recently got moved to the newcommer's forum.

Here it is in link for for the truly lazy with us =)

    forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php

The community staff there is really great.  I even sent a PM to Brannoc today and was not expecting a response for awhile if at all with the stuff he must have to sift through.  To my surprise I got a message back within 2 hours that answered my question perfectly.

They are very limited with their manpower.  It is more than enough to produce a dynamic game, but they have never had the manpower or time to hype this game up during development.  And you know what, who cares really.  The game will speak for itself, and those who demand info or give up on the game will obviously give in and play it if they here that it is fun to play.

My point is that if any new players want to find out more info, the main site is a great place to do it.  Just be sure to make your posts in the correct section and use the search function if posting in the advanced section.  The forumfallers can be rough but I assure you there are very few communities that are more supportive of a game.

Question from me too. Will there be any encumbrance system? Like a limit of how much stuff a character can carry?

Yes there will be limits that will be derived from skills.  I am on my way out the door or I would track down a quote for you, but hopefully someone else can get to it in the mean time.

    Thanks for the question though!

    Acknowledge who?

I'm fairly certain that I read there are completely no instances in the game, just an occasional brief pause for loading when entering dungeons. I could be wrong but I'm fairly certain, please link me if I'm wrong.

This game has me so fired up, can't wait to get in there and start digging!

The dungeons are just an area you zone into , but there will only ever be one copy of said dungeon. Very much the same as it was in AC(Asherons Call)

"Well about encumbrance, that's one of the departments we will totally disregard realism. So you can carry around all kinds of junk in your backpack. There will be a limit though (based on str and some skills + race.. dwarves and Orks aren't too bothered with encumbrance), but it wont be a realistic limit - it will be a limit that's good for game play, without making it realistically dull."

I think I also read somewhere that it will slow you down but I'm not sure on that.

Aye, and same as it were on Ultima Online. All players will always be in the same gameworld. No twin dungeons in Darkfall as in WoW or Warhammer which is two very instanced games.

If that stupid site would not require stupid actions like registering and having a 5/100 rank then DF would be at 10 at the hype level ffs

  • daarcodaarco Member UncommonPosts: 4,276

hmm, i dont understand why DF cant have a ten in hype? The hype is not about how good the game will be, just how much fun you think it wil be to pay it.

And who wouldent think example naval combat and mounted combat is fun?? I mean,  AoC didnt sound that fun......you will do quests and level up a character the same way as everyone else! The mounted combat sounded a bit fun, but there were no real weight to it.

Question: If there is an encumberance system will there be player housing, to offload your stuff?

And one more question if you have big ship will require your whole guild to sail/gun it? I plan on questing/exploring at  sea as well as land.

Player housing, as well as guild cities are in game.  You can build guild cities only at clan stones that are found throughout the world, but player housing is a little more open to where you can build.  You can put a house on some island or in a remote spot on the mainland as long as it isnt in a zone specifically designed to not have housing (think swg where you couldnt build with in a certain distance of npc cities and other things).
There will also be npc banks to keep your valuables in, as well as guild banks that appear to be in guild cities.

I couldn't gauge from this post if you have seen the latest gameplay video, so if you havent i highly suggest you check it out.
But if you have...remember during the naval combat you saw multiple characters on the boat.  One was controlling it while you saw others on each individual cannon.  So as of right now it appears that a large ship will require a lot of your guild to use to its fullest abilities.  You may be able to simply navigate it by yourself, but that wouldnt be very smart as a single player could board your ship and kill you and take it off your hands.
However there are smaller ships that will allow you to explore solo if you wish.  There are even rafts in game for very basic movement on water.

    What's known about crafting?

Will crafting be grinding? Will crafting be an involved task of many steps per item, or one or two clicks to make a batch of items? Will crafting be a single skill, or broken into smaller skills (i.e. blacksmithing, weaving, sewing)? Will it be a branching skill tree? Will crafting be based on experience points or attribute points? Will it be, at least in theory, possible to max all crafting skills? Will resources be spawn points and be limited. If so, how rare will resource spawns be? If not, how hard will it be to find resources? Will resources be protected by PvE creatures? Will it be possible to make unique items? Will it be easier or harder to craft an item rather than recieve it from a drop? Will crafting be tied to attributes (i.e. magic skill to enchant items, etc.)?  If so, will crafting be tied to combat skills (i.e. strength to chop wood)? Will crafting be tied to combat skills (i.e. an axe skill applying to wood axes and battle axes)? Will it be helpful/necissary to cooperatively craft? How many different crafting activities (meaning methods or processes) will there be? How many crafting skills will there be? Will it be possible to "buy" crafting skills (by just purchasing the materials and quickly grinding it up)?

    What is known about POHs?

Will there be a construction skill? Will houses be purchased or constructed? Will house designs be templates, player designed, or player customizable? Will there be interior POH items (i.e. furniture)? If so, will these items be tied to other crafting skills? And if so, will furniture be tradable? Can houses be destroyed? Can houses be looted? If so, what ways are there to protect your house? What functions will houses serve?

Well, keep in mind that the devs seem to be intent on not giving too much away so the players have to discover it themselves ingame. They also seem to be firmly against grinding in any form:
"After a brief introduction to the game, John drove the interview on by asking what the 3 things that they disliked the most about current MMO's and how they handled those elements in Darkfall. They answered immediately that they were grinding, combat systems and PvP.
Grinding was explained as completely boring and a waste of time. It wasn't any fun in games to have to hunt down and kill specific MOBs over and over again just to gain a level. To solve this they removed levels altogether from characters. They said a skill based system replaced character levels, however did not go into great detail about it. Perhaps they are hoping to hide the 13 year old twitch factor until beta."    www.tentonhammer.com/index.php

Not enough info at the moment(I believe).
Will it be, at least in theory, possible to max all crafting skills?
"Fan Question: How much is player involved in crafting? Is it the collect items and automatic transform when you have enough skill, is it something with success %, is it something completely different?
Tasos Flambouras: Crafting is pretty involved...you have to collect, or trade to acquire the raw materials, then the crafting of complex items is broken down into crafting sessions and you have to craft the building blocks first. There's a crafting time of a few seconds to several minutes. You have a success probability based on your skill, and the quality of the finished item will also vary from crafter to crafter. There are different considerations in enchantment and advanced crafting as well, which we'll leave for another time.
Fan Question: Can a single character max out/top end multiple fields in crafting. IE My dwarf is an armor smith, weapon smith and enchanter maxed.
Tasos Flambouras: You can max out multiple crafting skills assuming you're using them a lot, but it will take a long time to achieve."    www.warcry.com/articles/view/devjournals/darkfalljournals/2868-Darkfall-Dev-Journal-23-Tasos-Answers-29-Fan-Questions
Will resources be spawn points and be limited. If so, how rare will resource spawns be? If not, how hard will it be to find resources? Will resources be protected by PvE creatures?
"Tasos included the following answers in today's community Q&A over at the Darkfall forums.
Can you tell us anything about the way crafting materials are gathered?
You can gather crafting materials from killing mobs, and looting and/or skinning them. You can harvest materials from the environment, for example from rocks, trees, bushes etc. You can get the materials faster from organized resource production, like mines and farms, while collecting in nature is slower. You can craft crafting materials used to build complex items when they’re made of building blocks. Finally you can kill players and take theirs.

Evidently there will be multiple ways to collect a resource. The important part of the equation is how feasible it will be for a casual gatherer to compete with farms and mines.

Are solo players able to venture into a clan controlled mine and harvest there if it’s not guarded?

You can harvest in someone else’s mine, however they’ll get a message that you did. So as with everything else in the game, you’re free to do whatever you like, but you’re held accountable for your actions."    forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php
(Other than mobs that wander into an area, I don't think that established mines and such will be guarded by them)
Will it be possible to make unique items? Will it be easier or harder to craft an item rather than recieve it from a drop?
"The crafting system in Darkfall has been designed to be useful first and foremost. It's not very complicated and we haven't tried to reinvent the wheel with it. You can craft any and all items in the game. In Darkfall having good gear is one of the elements needed for maximizing your combat potential. Each item you craft bears your name on it for the life of the item and that has a value in itself. The question I'm replying to is variations of "why is the crafting system sophisticated, intuitive, and fun?" I'm not going to describe it more than we have already, but I'll say again that the value of crafting in Darkfall is that it's so very important in the game, more so than in any other MMO. Enchanting items is more challenging in that you have to discover the recipes, research, there's a process which is challenging and fun for those who enjoy that kind of thing."   www.warcry.com/articles/view/devjournals/darkfalljournals/3070-Darkfall-Dev-Journal-24-Full-Freedom-Gameplay-and-Substance
Will crafting be tied to attributes (i.e. magic skill to enchant items, etc.)?  If so, will crafting be tied to combat skills (i.e. strength to chop wood)? Unknown at the moment. You can expect to see the regular skills however, blacksmithing, enchanting, fishing etc.
Will it be possible to "buy" crafting skills (by just purchasing the materials and quickly grinding it up)?
Well once you actually LEARN it from an npc or tome and such, you could buy all the materials and just go nuts. As long as you have the materials and you're making stuff, you're going to level your crafting skill up.
    What is known about POHs?
Those details are pretty hard to come by, they seem to want to keep the big guns under wraps until the right moment, although they did say that they would explain how construction works in detail later on, probably closer to beta.
"Fan Question: What will the construction system be like? Also, will players be able to create a city in mountains or in underground locations?
Tasos Flambouras: I'm not going to directly answer this question because we intend to show you at some point how the construction system works. Describing it here is not descriptive enough. We've said before that "building anywhere" is relative. In Darkfall you can't build in any location you want, but this provides with unique clan cities built in awesome locations. So your clan city can be built on top of a glacier, have a waterfall hiding its entrance, be built on several levels on the side and in caverns inside a mountain, have secret underwater entrances, on a remote island...that kind of thing. These clan city features are not just about aesthetics, like where you ask about customizations, there is functionality in their layout. Darkfall's clan cities are extremely impressive and no two will be the same. Furthermore their location is strategic as far as geography and proximity to limited resources, making them points of conflict."
Will there be a construction skill? Will houses be purchased or constructed?
I am not absolutely sure if there is a construction skill, but I believe there is. Houses will be constructed, although there may be some sort of option to trade a deed or some such but that's just talking out of my ass.
"Do you need a skill to place buildings (architect)?
No skill, you need appropriate rank in the clan, or be the city mayor to place buildings."  Community Q+A  (keep in mind that's PLACING buildings, not constructing them)
Will house designs be templates, player designed, or player customizable?
Also unknown, although it is thought that houses will be modularly customizable to a certain degree.
Will there be interior POH items (i.e. furniture)? If so, will these items be tied to other crafting skills? And if so, will furniture be tradable?
    Also unknown.
Can houses be destroyed? Can houses be looted? If so, what ways are there to protect your house? What functions will houses serve?
In clan cities, the rate of building destruction is one a day without the use of siege units. That's if you own the city however, I'm sure siege can blow right through them. Walls can be built around a clan city, along with guards towers and battlements to defend against any wouldbe invaders. There was a very strong hint at traps and possibly locks to protect houses and buildings although they haven't spoken about that in a while. Houses serve as a place to drop off your loot, rest and I believe they can be looted.

I just wanted to clarify, killing a lawful person won't get you labeled as a PK. There are alliances between the races in the game; The Orks and Mahrim(wolf creatures), the Mirdain(tree hugging elves) and Dwarves and Humans, and the Alfar(twisted, sadistic race of death ). If you kill anyone lawful within your race's alliance, you take a reputation hit. Anyone outside of your racial alliance, regardless, is open game. If you kill enough of the lawfuls in your race alliance, you become unlawful and subject to attack by anyone.

If anyone has any corrections or clarifications, feel free. Sorry if some parts are a bit jumbled, if a question wasn't answered fully, the explanation was probably the best I could do.
