See, there you go again, over estimating people......
Well ya should of asked for a Trial Key everyone has been handing out like candy. Cause they gives you all the released content free and then you get to keep it when you subscribe. But honestly who only tries one shop to get hold of something. Seriously shop around. What shop did you try to get EQ2 Rise of Kunark from and I take it you were asking for Rise of Kunark and not any of the other release packages.
I was asking for EverQuest II but SOE can't send a copy of EverQuest II to the store because SOE doesn't have any.
SOE = epic fail.
Okay, in all seriousness.
Let's take this slowly, not so much for you, since you decided not to play, but for others who are reading and are interested.
"Everquest 2", the original box, is most likely hard to find. Even in a city the size of San Francisco. That is simply because the last expansion (Rise of Kunark) included not just that expansion, but also the original game and every single expansion since the original publication.
So, when you went into your local Gamestop, or wherever, and asked for "Everquest 2" it is very possible that the underpaid and under-motivated clerk simply typed in the name and saw that SOE is no longer sending out the original boxed set.
And a good thing too, for if you had been able to buy that (what? three to four year old) product when you asked, you would have simply gotten the bare minimum game.
No expansions. No upgrades.
Had that happened, it is possible we then would be sitting here reading the complaints of a 27 year old man concerning Sony's "epic fail" in selling him a product that did not include everything that the latest release of the same product contained.
As others have pointed out - San Francisco is a big city. You might have been better served to go to another Gamestop, or another store completely, and ask for the same thing.
To that end, a scant moment's look on the internet would have given you all of the above information, included venues where the hard copy of the game (Kunark) can be ordered (Amazon) and why it is in the best interest of the customer that Sony no longer sells that older, non-updated product.
Let's be honest. Since it appears that you were able to take the time to write a post and complain here on MMORPG.com, but were unable to do the simple search to find what product was available, it is obvious that you (along with several here) have some kind of axe to grind with the company.
So be it. Lord knows that they've screwed over many a customer (see: Star Wars Galaxies) and deserve much of the disdain directed to them.
That said, in this regard, you have no valid complaint. Yes, there was a failure here, but at least in this case, it was not from Sony.

In the future, I will either be much more subtle or simply more direct, when I decide to take a moment to challenge the kind of silly misinformation that is rife on this site (which, for what it is worth, is not the fault of the site, to be sure).
Good luck to you, Jefferson. I hope you find a game (uh, literally) in San Francisco that you can enjoy and can play for years to come.
Thanks, maybe if Bethesda makes that The Elder Scrolls MMO but as it is now no one of the current MMOs are really worth my time.

If none of the current MMO's are worth your time...then why were you trying to buy one? I saw a copy of EQII at Target over the weekend, saw one last night when I was looking at games at Best buy. Heck I even saw copies of Vanguard...
Maybe next time you shouldnt try to order games from 7-11.
The game can be bought in any number of stores or it can be purchased through digital download direct from SOE on the EQ2 webpage. The person who said they contacted SOE and started all this either did it as a joke or for some personal reason, perhaps he doesn't like SOE or something but he certainly never contacted anyone.
The original package, on DVD with Antonia Bayle and Lucan D'Lere on the outside, may be hard to find (and overpriced if you do find it). Then there is EverQuest II Classic - just the original game on a stack of CDs and no manual to speak of; but what do you expect for $5? Those can be found at quite a few GameStop stores. All of the BestBuy stores in my area (that I've been in) have 2-3 copies of EQ2 Rise of Kunark. Circuit City, not so good - they have a very few original boxes (at the original price). WalMart might have some EQ2 RoK.
With the chance that you got a old trial account you could check it and see if you got the full game with latest expansions and all. Then you only need to subscribe.

Now go sit in the penalty box and feel ashamed.

It was a mistake trying to buy a SOE game.
Ok, now I have said it.
Move on now, please.
So you started all this mess as an anti-Sony rant?
/sigh
The contents of this post do not necessarily reflect the views of MMORPG.com and its management.
No, Sony is great, they made my TV.
Eight years and still counting.
There is digital download available. People have given you link to purchase it in physical form if that's your thing.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
How is it that posters like these never get any action taken against them yet someone with a legitimate beef gets a two week ban?
Oh and places you can currently walk in and get EQII Rise of Kunark which is an all in one pack.
EB Games, Gamestop, Best Buy, Walmart, PlanetX, Kmart.
Places you can download EQII Runes of Kunark. Direct2drive, Stationstore, Gogamer.
