I dont think Shiva will keep you for much longer than two months if you have issues with it as it is.  The new POS - Missions - "dungeons" - ships - items - agents - corp management upgrades - alliance protocols etc.. will only keep you interested until youve checked them out, then it will be back to the same old same old.

Personaly I am still lacking in so many areas  of the game that i still have content from pre-castor to check out.  Still cant properly kill NPC or have a level 3 agent.  So im good to go for months and months even without Shiva.

Also if you think the game is buggy now, then just wait till shiva hits.  Youll really hate it then.  Personaly I see very few bugs in my playing, although i hear of them through the corp.

Aside from bugs the new game play will ( A ) take alot of gettting used to and ( B ) will have alot elements that will have to be nerfed / tweaked to get balance right.

Word of advice, all of you should lower your expectations of Shiva, it is not going to be the wonder cure, it will have alot of negative issues, and will upset you to no end.  I would suggest rather to be highly aprehensive, and if it does upset you, you wont be displeased you will have been  right in your assumption. IF on the other hand it works out great then you will be pleasantly suprised. Either way you win.  Setting it up as the be all and end all will only leave you feeling hollow and empty when it doesnt live up to your conceived perceptions of what it should be.

Personaly, I cant wait.  Learning Anchoring 5 atm, even though it does nothing atm, and i have no idea if it will be needed or not. image

Eve is primarily about two things: community and teamwork. The biggest problem most people seem to have is finding things to do. I suggest hitting the talk channels and discussing your plans with the people on Help or Recruitment channels.

One of the best things one can do is seek out an established corporation, if one needs ideas on what to do. Most are hiring (though some only on an invitation-only basis) and even if you end up just mining because you lack skills to do other things effectively, at least  you will be mining towards a goal, and have the resources of the corporation to draw upon for skills, equipment, and advice.

There is a world of difference between the starter corporations and player-owned corporations. Most who are in the starter corporations for a long time are particularly creative and have carved out a niche for themselves as independents. But it is a rare individual who has the patience/time/energy to maintain this for long periods of time.

Make sure that if you decide to join a corp it is one with specific goals (And not just "have a good time"). There are many that seem to drift, doing today what they did yesterday just because "that's what we do." If you couldn't find things to do on your own, that situation will not help you, just cause you do drift aimlessly until you lose interest.

Goal setting is very important, just be aware that flexibility is key, especially pre-Shiva. We know a lot of what's going to come out, a lot of the changes have been posted. But how they will impact the game is unknown, and a lot of the details on implementation are also at this point guesswork unless you work for CCP. So keep in mind that your goals will change, even before you can attain them sometimes.

Speaking of Shiva, be prepared for masssive realignment of the political system. This means, there's gonna be upheaval, and we don't know how it's gonna work out. The game is extremely dynamic; right now huge sections of space are claimed by alliances of corps who work together (and against other alliances) to claim lucrative unaligned space. These were not planned for by the devs, and have greatly changed and enhanced the flavor of the game. However, Shiva will address them for the first time, with alliance controls and formal organizations to give them true meaning in terms of being officially acknowledged by the existing Empires. This, plus the ability for most corps to be able to deploy and protect mini-stations in what is now largely alliance-controlled space is going to lead to a lot of upheaval.

So, even if you like the game, be prepared for changes. Not all changes will be good for you, and every change you will hear complaining about (just like always). Those best able to stay flexible and work together will, as always in Eve, prosper and even come to dominate if those currently in power find themselves too attatched to the status quo.

I hope that the above will help you as you consider whether to set up an Eve account, and give you a good idea of what to expect if you make the leap to the world of Eve.image

    First of all....Yes

EVE is a fantastic game,if, as many have said, you take the time to get into it. Finding a good player corp and some people to play and advance with is crucial. I didn't join a player corp for a minth after i started playing and wish i had done it sooner now. It doesnt even mean you have to join one of the super-corps out there (MM for example). Find some people you seem to get on with in chat, and play the game with them...the best way to learn in EVE is to listen to players that have been there and done it!

I can see why people could get bored with EVE, and i myself took a month off in August (put some long training skills on) and then came back really wanting to play again. There is no easy or hard way to play EVE, you just have to play it, and see what happens. When you are new, you dont understand 0.0 space, or what a Fleeting Progressive Warp Scrambler is....but that's one of the best bits of EVE...you find out! Not because CCP tell you, but because you interact with other players and learn as you go.

EVE is the first MMORPG is really played for any length of time (nearly  8 months now) and it would take a major fault to appear in the game to make me quit. This is not only because the game  has so many positives going for it, but because i have invested a lot of time developing my character. In respect to that last comment, every player in EVE is unique...you are the only one that looks like you (ok there may some similar looking people, but not identical), the skills you have will be a unique combination to you, and the people you meet and play the game with will be a unique set of people to you....it's not just about the people in your corp...all 50,000 (not sure that's the exact figure) players on EVE are there to be talked to, played with and in some cases if they happen to be in CA or MoO, killer on sight! image

ok that was just supposed to be me saying 'Yes' to the question...but it's that good, i had to say all that image

Yes, this game is strongly pvp, it is based on player conflict. And for those who do not enjoy that kind of thing, you will be restricted as to where you can go in safety.

But then, I ask why one has a Megathron when one does not like pvp. A Dominix is cheaper, tanks nicely and its abilty to control more drones makes it at least as good for mining and missions as the Megathron. Merely being in a Megathron, to my mind, makes one a legitimate threat, and target for other players. Most players given a choice will target the Megathron first because of its ability to deal out tremendous damage at extremely close range.

I like the PvP thing....alot, but what got me is the scifi setting, I couldn't get into the game that much, at least its not fantasy

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

I found that when I played EvE I'd find myself doing stuff like cleaning the house and washing up while I waited to travel places. In the end I thought why am I paying for this. I can clean my house for free.

I didnt like that it could take you all day to equip a ship.

I did like the trade system.

I didnt like zoning every 20sec.

I'm not really a big fan of PvP

EvE would have made a great play by mail game as I found I only logged in to see if I had trained a skill, sold some stuff or made some stuff.

On the whole i found it slow dull and empty. kinda like space I guess.
