you act is if any mmo you pick up is supposed to last for 2 or 3 years. 6 months for any game is a long time. imagine playing chess everyday for six months. i am sure you would be bored out of your my after a half of year. for any game to occupy some one (almost everyday) for six months of there life it must be one hell of a game. that's my point.
I played UO for 2 years straight; 8 years on and off. I played Starseige Tribes for 3 years. I've played Counter-Strike for 7 years on and off. I've played Warcraft III (just Warcraft people) for 3 years.
Six months for a multiplayer game is NOT a long time.
"hell i got bored with GTA 4 after one week, because its the same as all the other 3d gta series. doesn't mean its a bad game..."

Yes, it does.
i already covered this, if you can play a game that long, then all to you. but i can't, like i said give me a good half a year off an mmo and im happy. i hate peforming repetative task in the same world constantly. BTW why are you still in the WAR forums, i though you hated this game? also the last time i checked gta4 sold 8.5 million copies, so i believe that totally your opinion, a lot of people love it.
I agree with the OP some people grow up one day and just dont like simple games anymore. Mmo have always been simple they cant be complicated......
I havent played a mmo in over a year and havent played a mmo for longer then a months for 4 years!
haveI grown to old for Games.. I think so. but Im still looking to play them. Why???
Cause i remember having so much fun.
Now iv been off Mmo's for years. As i havent given AoC even a try (I had a feeling it was to good to be true)
Mythic on its part has been the most honest and open gaming company ever on Earth Ill buy there game even if its just to reward them for that alone.
Cheers everyone!!!!!
Your first statement is incorrect. MMO's can be complicated and still be a success. EQ for example before all the Allakhazam walkthroughs and ect... it was complicated. Leveling wasn't complicated but it required work. Crafting in Vanguard(GASP) was complicated and I loved it. Some people prefer some things harder then these easy grinds where max level is only one month away. Some people love huge worlds to explore and the mysteries that may be held.
Everything that has passed through the MMO market since WoW besides Vanguard have all made these super fast level based single player mmos. What made WoW so good imo , was the fact that the areas to explore was just right in size. The leveling was a tad bit too fast but hey the travel times made up for that.
Some people just want to feel like they actually accomplished something, some people want to feel unique and some people prefer these quick hack an slash end game content in a few weeks type games.
I, too, played Shadowbane and lovedit, with the exception of lag and crashing I think the PvP was the best I've ever played.
EQ, like many others, was my first MMORPG, which I played for 4.5 years. I tried some others, including DAoC, but Shadowbane was my next love. As they mushed all the servers together and people jumping ship, I tried WoW. I hated it at first and cancelled. After 6 months, I was bored and tried it again and played for a while. It was okay, simply because of all the RL people I knew playing.
I am hoping WAR is going to have a Shadowbane type of PvP. I still may buy it and see.
Current: GW2 (almost) Played: EQ, DAoC,EQOA,Shadowbane,WoW, WAR, SWTOR, TSW

i never played shadowbane. i never was into PVP, it never gave me game XP, and was alway something optional in games. PVP always seem like a separate mini game that you really didn't have to do. WAR is different however, PVP is thrown at you seamlessy and it is part of the game, and you get XP. this is the first PVP i have ever been into. it's fun as hell. i was level seven in like a 50 vs 50 battle on this coast, it was nuts!
I am veteran mmog player from first days of UO. Played DAOC for five years.Beta testing WAR.If you are looking for an rvr game....WAR is a step back wards from DAOC imo..

you are on MMORPG.com, half the people reviewing "the beta" are veteran everquest players(or have been playing mmos for years). don't fall victim to the negative things said about WAR. it's mainly because these guys are burned out on mmo's period. it has nothing to do with WAR, no matter how good or bad WAR is ,these guys will not say "it's great" because it didn't give them the same feeling as everquest. of course its not great, you have been palying everquest clones for 7 years. like i said you people are ridiculous. WAR is very good, there is nothing the game does bad at current state. chances are it's not gonna give you the same feeling as your first mmo's, since every mmo is a clone from the last, YOU ARE JUST BORED WITH MMO's! there is nothing that can be developed that will give you that "WOW MY FIRST MMO FEELING"

The problem I see is that a game cant cater to everyone. So for example you would like to spend years playing a game (forgive me if I misquote you) and want to spend effort to feel accomplishment.
As a casual gamer - I want that same feeling of accomplishment. Yet I only have a for or five hours a week to play. So being able to jump in , spend half an hour and complete a public quest, or do a quick instance pvp scenario and I am happy - I feel that for my 30 minutes or an hour I accomplished something and didn't waste my limited time traveling, or killing endless critters to get drops.
So as two very different audiences I cant see how a game can possibly cater to both of us, and everyone else with a different play style/liking as well.
So developers need to decide which audience they are after (pve, pvp, casual, lot of time, too much time) and focus.

a casual gamer will take a 10-14 hour ride through mass effect or gears of war and say it's the greatest game ever , lol. but yeah there are definately different crowds and taste. even WOW, the most subscribed to mmo right now, is hated by a lot of mmo players. doesn't mean it's a bad game. it can't be with that many people playing it everyday. i say let the numbers talk. if you can appeal to a huge fan base obviously your game has done something right. perfect example is conan, go to the conan forum, all you see is disappointment, now thats a bad gme that speaks for itself.
WAR wasn't what I thought it was going to be. While not necessarily a bad, I thought WAR was going to be this hate, war, violent, kill, damage, pound it, slice it, stab it, whatever it til it's dead, in your face kinda game. I never got that feeling while playing.
I got a mix between LotRO and a bit of other games. I'm talking from a look/feel of the game perspective.
I didn't feel like I was playing WoW at all. Sorry, a dwarf, elf, human, orc dont' = WoW to me, probably because I'm in my 30's and I know better.
The scenario's were 'okay'. Nothing that I'd call earth-shattering. And really, that's okay to me. I'd rather there not be instanced PvP at all, honestly. If it were all RvR (open-world pvp), then that'd be fine to me.
Maybe in the full-release of the game there will be more accurate sound effects, blood/gore effects, etc.,... But there needs to be something to immerse you into combat. I'm not talking the big open field battles, I'm talking the 1 v 1 battles where you might be fighting a MOB/NPC of some type (or another player, either way)... the combat just didn't feel. uh.... well, it had no feeling or sensation of excitement, to me. I know, it's a video game... but there wasn't anything that really let me know that 'damn, I just layed a lot of DMG on that guy!!!!!' other than a health bar tick.
There were dots and other effects, but nothing that showed me what I was expecting... the sensation of WAR.

it kinda reminded me of LOTRO mixed with WOW. but both games are good IMO, so im not going to complain . they are going to have open RVR servers also at launch. so you can get ganked anywhere and be flagged all the time.
I have to agree with the OP here. I have been playing MMO's since UO and I am a bit burnt out. However, I have other hobbies and lead a very full (busy) life. I have found in the last 2-3 years that while MMO's are still a part of my life, they aren't as large a part of it.
The up side to that is that they stay fresh longer (barring the occasional funcom release). But MMORPG's just haven't changed much since UO, honestly. I still find myself comparing one aspect or another of a game to UO and I have to stop and remind myself to take the game for what it is and not expect it to be something else.
That said, I find nothing disturbing about people speaking their minds about a game. And a lot of people are burning out on MMO's in general. It happens. And we addicts (yes, we are addicts) tend to get cranky when we can't get our mmorpg fix. But that's when you know it's time to change dealers and find a fresh product.
In all fairness though, the evolution of MMORPG's occurs at a very slow pace. I would really like it if it were faster, but at least WAR is a step forwards and not a step backwards like so many other games.
the point of this post is to let people who have not been part of the beta know that the game is far from a flop as described by some in this forum. it may not be the greatest to some, but i really havent seen anyome say "ITS HORRIBLE", because they know that would be a lie. it's either not there taste of mmo's or they just for other reasons dont like it. the naysayers are just expecting some uber mmo to appear out of no where and also mad because conan wasn't that uber mmo as hyped. now WAR gets the bad rep, lol, j/k

My first PQ was on my witch elf. When that dragon showed up I was so excited. I love games that give you epic encounters from the beginning. Mythic apparently doesn't beleive you should have to kill 90 bazillion rabbits before you can have a real fight.
