Playing WAR made me appreciate how great AoC. Thanks Mythic

Let me first say AoC has set the benchmark in the MMO genre. Combat and graphics are so far ahead of its competitors, that it will take another 3 years for a another game to compare. AoC was fun from the start and  that carried through to level 80.

When funcom implement the PvP patch we will we have one hell of a game.

After playing WAR it was pretty bland and generic. Combat is slow and  painful at times. Animations seem missing and i was lagging alot in PvP encounters. Graphics are subpar for a game released in this day and age. Mythic, as consumers we deserve more than you can provide. So like numerous others i have cancelled my pre-order of WAR, it was a huge failure in my eyes.

P.S. AoC 4 life

Any game can have lagg. Hopefully is some because they have a debugger running, AoC lagged hard to during beta. See that you have the latest graphics driver also. Lagg usually gets better after the first weeks when they patch up the game but some games never get rid of it.

Graphics however is another thing, that usually stay the same way for a long time.

This is most odd, as the graphics are quite blah. All I can assume is a debugger was running as the graphical lag was beyond weird. Especially when AoC runs quite well. Stuttery movement, locked into fighting positions, glitchy animations.

Also, latency delays were quite apparent. I can blame this on their stress test like environment. All servers were packed up, so this could explain that problem.

But, this did not help the slowness of combat. I played last night and it took me almost 5 minutes to fight a level 3 wolf, and then died anyways. THAT IS SLOW.

I also went back to AoC. It is ok to pass the time. It is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but WAR is like 2004 all over again..WoW....those were the days.

    I will take AoC anytime

Before this turns into a flamefest...

I'll agree with you in one point, AoC had great graphics. But unfortunately because of the great graphics they made the world instanced, which completely ruined the feeling of it for me.

On the other hand, I will disagree with you about AoC combat. It was horrible. They tried to mix a action fighter combat control scheme with an rpg attack queue and it was horrific. Even basic attacks became tedious and boring. I really hope future MMO's do not mimic AoC's combat.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

1.First off i was thrown into RvR at lvl 3 when i went to my races war camp. This is possible by lvl scaling so that you have more suvivability(sp?). But keep your lvls abilities.

2..When i intered the area thier was already a full scale battle of about 50 order and 80 destruction. We were a little bit more organized and took the lead for the zone at the beggining. But as the hour dragged on the destructions numbers made the differance and we got bum rushed. Ended up with about 5 seperate battles all accross the field.

    3. No crashing or lag on a full server.

    4. you can turn your rvr pvp status on at anypoint in the game outside the zone.

    5. Art direction > RL (exp: looking the same as everyone else)

From my experiance with conan, In my new rig at that. Was pretty cool the first 25 lvls...in tortage.

    BLAH****

The Open Beta client only has low-res textures, you should wait for the final client to see how the graphics really look like.

How do you find combat slow? Combat is just as fast as, if not faster than, AoC. I'm constantly rushing around throwing off skills, rushing from target to target that I think is in my best interest to kill, hoping my morale bar fills up enough to use my powerful skill I have at the moment before I die, or before they do.

Also I don't know about you, but there is really very little lag at all in WAR. The only times I lagged a bit was when I shot and the bullets would hit but would take a second to do damage. Other than that, it's been great. The game is much less buggy before launch than AoC is almost 4 months after.

So how far did you play into it anyway? I'd be surprised if you even made it as far as the world RvR, instead of just scenarios.

I also don't understand your thoughts on graphics. The graphics are amazing. AoC has really good graphics, but it brought down so many other aspects of the game to get them in there. WAR has slightly reduced graphics so it can have the ton of stuff going on all at once in each zone.  As opposed to having a small zone with not too much going on, but looking fantastic.

Anyway, I probably shouldn't have even wasted my time, since you not liking the game won't exactly have your mind changed. Well, whatever.

    Good luck with AoC!

EDIT: Zhalla, you're kidding me! These are low-res graphics in WAR? I thought they were at the highest, and I was already impressed.

You're comparing AoC post-beta with WAR open beta.

I was in AoCs open beta and I'm currently in WARs open beta. The difference is night and day with WAR OB being ten times more stable. AoC OB was so Laggy with constant C2Ds for a Majority of players (Guess you forget that part eh?). In fact AoCs OB was so bad the release client patch was considered a "Miracle".

The best graphics and sound aren't worth anything if your gameplay is ass, and the software is being supported and managed by idiots.  AoC has set a new benchmark is in how horrid customer service and patch implimentation can go before people will stop paying to be kicked in the balls.

Do you honestly think that patch will work when it goes live?   Look at their history.   Everytime they patch the game, there are stealth nerfs, invisible players, memory leaks, or some other major disaster that comes along with it.  They have proven time and time again that they are incapable of patching their own game, let alone being honest to their customers.

Funcom puts out letters from Gaute that act like the game is sunshine and lollipops while the server populations are fleeing from the game.  Mark Jacobs so far has been honest about the problems that have popped up so far, and they have been effective about targeting and eliminating them.  Compare that to AoC where Yahkmar was unkillable for month, then they banned people for zoning into his cave without warning.

If you like paying for 6 months of subscriptions to get what was promised on the box on day 1, then more power to you.

Look I dont care if conan himself can reach out of the screen and choke me . If i get around people and the game starts lagging to hell then it is all worthless. Hince thier dumb limited pvp area view of whos near you. How good a game looks says nothing and I mean nothing about the quality of the game. I had such high hopes for this game and it just got squashed.

See that is what happens when your lead developer is up on some scandianvian(sp) mt creating a game.

llok if don,t like age of conan fine .

You're a liar. You never played Warhammer and you know it. Anyone with "AoC 4 Life" in every comment they make wouldn't even try Warhammer.

I'm not defending Warhammer by any means, I have no interest in it. But at least I don't lie and say that I played it.

*EDIT: Oh yea about the pvp patch, it's coming out at the end of June, early July 2008. At least that's what the "Letter From the Game Director" USED to say before they edited it. But please, keep on paying for something that is "coming soon."

I don't have these problems.  I have always been able to kill things in a timely manner.  Even players.  And i am playing a tank (swordmaster).

If it takes you 5 minutes to kill a wolf something is seriously wrong.  I can't think of any non normal creature that it took me more than 30 seconds to kill.  The only thing taking minutes has been heroic bosses when we only had 4 people on it.  But they have like 100 times the hp.

Ive played both betas(have a lvl 80 guardian in AoC) and the difference in the 2 is uncomparable.  Yes AoC has some great graphics but thats where it ends for AoC.  Everything else about it sucked like nothing ive ever played before.  Warhammer is such a better mmo all the way around its not funny. Do I think there are some things about WH that are similar to WOW?  Yes I do but it is in no way a clone.   AoC has been out for over 4 months now and its STILL garbage.  WH is in beta and its more complete with less bugs and crashes than AoC.

I know everyone has their own opinion but to say that AoC was better in their beta than warhammer is utter nonsense.  Mark these words...in 4 months from release..warhammer will have at least double the customers AoC has.

Just a couple more monthly payments and payment of an expansion and you'll get the pvp patch, right? Then you can buy another expansion for sieges. Then another for DX10. I'm pretty sure that's how business will be working for FC further on the line until people stop falling for this crap.
