Have to agree a bit with this no matter how much Conan was disappointment and that Funcom feels like a scammer. Trying WAR sure made me miss how fun I had in Conan before learning about its limitations. When combos used only two buttons and you ran around in Tortage with alot of content and fun encounters I saw my future with AoC. But I learned as most have and will that the core design and fraudelent company will make it unfixable.
In WAR I just didnt have any feelings of fun. It ran smooth, felt optimized, even balanced the little I tried, but it was just boring. Ok, if you are a RvR enthusiast then it's probably a very fun game, that's not for me though and rest of game seems to be, been there, done that, years ago. I actually got a bit afraid that WAR might attract alot less people than I thought and that it might actually give Funcom subscribers, but hopefully they know to stay away from the fraud AoC is anyway.

i played warhammer for the last 6+ months during beta and now the open beta. and it was frankly painful to play. generic, bland, rough animations which felt stiff and adbrupt. the 2 sec cooldowns between every single spell no matter which was a bit annoying, using the same spell over and over for the "builder" was meh. the style of art was kind of intersting though kind of low end similar to wow but definitely higher resolution textures.
there are some aspects interesting such as the TOMe of knowledge alot of the aspects to the game felt like been there did that. PQ"s are nice addition but when u finally realize they are more for accrueing rep points for that given area. only bright side is you do actually get some half decent gear when you hit elite. but once again youd have to do that PQ at least 3-5 times depending on how many quests you did for the area which applies to your "rep standing" so this game seems very heavy rep grinder, for gear. all in all had a very bland feel to it, like i been there before somewhere,....hmmmm i wonder......
AOC although wonderful combat system, combined with tight graphics; the underlying issue is the lack of content, lack of features promised at launch (some that should ofbeen there but are out due to failcom's incompetence), bugs, performance issues, OOM's, BSOD's.( i myself didnt have of those thankfully, a few crashes here and there with the occasional shadow bug) but these glaring issues keep AOC from ever truly recovering, and no longer becomes a bastion for anyone who wants to play a MMO.
but, as in any MMO, each have their shining moments. depends on what crap your willing to put up with for $14.99 a month.

This is exactly why I couldnt figure out why the lore was so bad, theres a wealth of literature already out there to draw from.
Even if WAR turns out to be a complete borefest I doubt AoC will get back its subscribers. Simple fact is because AoC crapped right on the faces of their customers with lies and fake promises.

Did you play it at endgame? Do you have any 40 toons in closed/open beta?
AoC is a walking corpse, face it. They keep breaking the game more with every patch, they can't release the damn PvP patch ever since June/July, they silence people instead of communicating, it is simply pathetic.
Well Ive not played WAR so I cant really comment. But if WAR makes AoC look good then it looks like WAR will be another fail.
I did like AoC, but got very bored of the linear PvE the restricted feeling of instances and the utterly utterly boring crafting and harvesting. I went straight back to Vanguard.
The IP for Warhammer is ten times bigger than AoC though, and Warhammer has been around for decades before MMO's and has the potential to reach a wider audience than even WoW does.
So it doesnt really matter how much you dis WAR, or even how Bad war is or might be..it WILL be popular and it will not die and we just better prepare ourselves for that fact.
I'd even say that AoC would probably die years before War ever would.
Im no War fan, but it could be the worst mmo in the world and will still be popular.
You're comparing AoC post-beta with WAR open beta.
And your enjoying a large bowl of irony.

Haha, you're so funny. What a funny little man, just like the little jester on your avatar.
WAR OB is still more solid, more entertaining and more populated than AoC post-beta. But, there are a couple issues with OB that are pretty standard for OBs (You should know that). Some of the issues the OP was addressing were in AoCs OB (later fixed with the "Miracle" patch), but he fails to acknowledge it.
but once again youd have to do that PQ at least 3-5 times depending on how many quests you did for the area which applies to your "rep standing" so this game seems very heavy rep grinder, for gear. all in all had a very bland feel to it, like i been there before somewhere,....hmmmm i wonder......
I seriously doubt you have played 6+ months in beta if you say this. You don't have to do THAT PQ over and over again. There are so many PQ with different story around. Even at Tier 1 your have at least 2 -3 Chapters, each Chapters has 3 -4 PQ in it. Dude, there are so many contents in WAR that you don't even know what to do with.
In AoC I was forced to grind because there is nothing else. In WAR you grind because you like to grind so much.
I will agree that AOC was alot more fun to certain point then War, the combat was better, and the grafix waaayy better. But in the end AOC has failed as it offered nothing to do at end game and today has more bugs and problems then it had at launch.Oh and alot more promises with no resolve. Atleast Mythic has been honest in there release.Unlike AOC
Let me first say AoC has set the benchmark in the MMO genre. Combat and graphics are so far ahead of its competitors, that it will take another 3 years for a another game to compare. AoC was fun from the start and that carried through to level 80. When funcom implement the PvP patch we will we have one hell of a game. After playing WAR it was pretty bland and generic. Combat is slow and painful at times. Animations seem missing and i was lagging alot in PvP encounters. Graphics are subpar for a game released in this day and age. Mythic, as consumers we deserve more than you can provide. So like numerous others i have cancelled my pre-order of WAR, it was a huge failure in my eyes.
P.S. AoC 4 life

Before this turns into a flamefest...
I'll agree with you in one point, AoC had great graphics. But unfortunately because of the great graphics they made the world instanced, which completely ruined the feeling of it for me.
On the other hand, I will disagree with you about AoC combat. It was horrible. They tried to mix a action fighter combat control scheme with an rpg attack queue and it was horrific. Even basic attacks became tedious and boring. I really hope future MMO's do not mimic AoC's combat.
Well the world isn't instance per se, if too many people log into a zone a copy is created to prevent that zone from overloading. This isn't new, EQ2 started doing that in 2004 though I don't know if they were the first.
Combat in AoC will be boring *IF* you just use basic attacks. However, Funcom has said repeatedly that combat is designed with the idea of using the combos. Use them and mobs drop easily, rely solely on basic attacks and you will actually lose some fights. The entire combat aspect of the game is made with the assumption that you will be comboing as much as possible. I actually hope more MMO's mimic this combat system as it is far better than the auto-attack spam special attack hotkey we have in most games now.
I remember playing AoC with my guild back in July thinking that the PvP patch was coming any day now. If you had told me then that come September that patch would still be MIA, I never would have believed it. Then they send out Erling to say that he didn't think the PvP system was a major issue to him at least? The game was being touted as a PvP game, what could be more important?
WAR is also touted as a PvP game (even if its more RvR). The difference is that the WAR PvP system is in the game and working before launch. They have keep sieges that work better then what AoC has 4 months after launch. The AoC keep battles are buggy and scheduled. That's immersion for you Funcom style. Let's make an appointment to PvP! Hell, not only that, but let's make it only available during European prime time where most Americans would be at work,
Regardless of how you feel towards AoC and WAR, the difference between the 2 games and their approach to customer communication is severe. If you are trying to tell people that AoC has more to offer other then graphics, you are not being intellectually honest. Stop being appologists for these people. This is why a company can squueze a turd into a CD case, sell it, and make money. I am big believer in accountability, and when everyone decides to stop paying for potential, we will see less crap peddled to us.
You're comparing AoC post-beta with WAR open beta. I was in AoCs open beta and I'm currently in WARs open beta. The difference is night and day with WAR OB being ten times more stable. AoC OB was so Laggy with constant C2Ds for a Majority of players (Guess you forget that part eh?). In fact AoCs OB was so bad the release client patch was considered a "Miracle".

OK first of all, about combat, hmm, I hope you're not serious or it's sad.
Now about graphics, you probably have lived in a shelter for the last 2 years because AoC's graphics are really not that great, even for a MMO.
And 3 years? wow. just shows you have no clue: there will be MMOs using UnrealEngine 3 released in 2009...
The best thing is that most people on these forums only know about the overhyped commercial MMOs. So, it's always the same pattern:
new commercial MMO => people are excited hype => people are more excited, fanbois appear over hype => big-time fanbois with blindfolds appear closed-beta => rumors start to develop. Most people, and especially fanbois, don't believe them and consider the ones who write about them to be trolls open beta => rumors are confirmed, lots of threads about it short time after release => hype doesn't work anymore, people finally accept the truth (except some like the OP apparently) and put all their hopes in the next MMO... and it all starts again.
Everyone should be able to waste their time as they want to, but still... Try opening your eyes people.
Well the world isn't instance per se, if too many people log into a zone a copy is created to prevent that zone from overloading. This isn't new, EQ2 started doing that in 2004 though I don't know if they were the first.
Actually Anarchy Online was the first MMO to utilize instancing, though their dungeons were still public. A new shard would only form if the dungeon exceeded certain number of players.
