    Sounds like typical SWG.

I'm really surprised that George Lucas has allowed such a poor shadow of his incredible universe to exist.

Makes one wonder if he has ever seen it.

    Nuke SWG and start over.

Shooting oneself in the face would be a good upgrade.

I agree with the OP on the failings of a decent representation of a galactic war in SWG and how there seems to be a crippling lack of PvP in SWG. What we have beaten into the ground numerous times is what king of players really like SWG for it's sandbox qualities verses other MMO's.

I have been playing Team Fortress 2 alot lately. There is a system in this first person shooter that enables new equipment. For those who haven't played TF2 yet, it is called achievements. It's a comical and creative way of describing you killed x number of opponents in certain conditions. Earn enough of them you unlock a weapon.

Lately, the Heavy weapons guy achievement unlocks were something of a joke, so even this system is flawed to some extent the same way the Valve Developers seem to have misunderstood what their forum troll fans requested as much as SOE Developers and their subscribing fans have had something lost in translation in years past.

Now, an odd thought, if you really want to promote SWG as a PVP paradise and somehow increase the number of subscribers of the game which is sound business sense, then maybe SOE should take a look at TF2's combat model for a moment. It's rock-paper-scissors balance. Each combat class can trump the other in a variety of ways. Rank, it would seem, would be useless in combat, as the goal in TF2 is simply to take objectives from the other team.  The reward system should be easy for casual players. Make it combat points and a special store they can spend their points in, it's no different from WOW.

Adapting the TF2 combat model to SWG would be a change. But is change in SWG really wanted by it's subscribers?

The problem with SWG PvP is that it barely exists. I went back after the free month thing and ended up canceling my 3 accounts before the first paid month was up. I canceled because I was falling a sleep at my keyboard because the game is sooooooo boring. You spend 20 mintues getting buffed then an hour by the time to get to restuss and see some one to kill....then thats it .....night over.

They NEED to fix the gcw if they ever hope to increase their sub numbers....plain and simple.

I think that SWG had some of the BEST PvP in any game pre-cu.  The ability to gain skills in multiple trees to make your character how ever you wanted was great.  You could dable in the ranged trees and be a super skilled marksman or you could dable in melee and have super stacked defenses.  But to address the current state of the game I could car eless if it goes under.  I want the pre-cu back.

    Greetings,

Hopefully they will nuke SWG and have a KOTOR era MMO, then revisit GCW era when Sony is overthrown by the few remaining True Jedi.

    Here is to hoping.

I love how people say the NGE is over run with carebears as if PreCu wasn't or something.  It just didn't seem like it at the time because the game actually had a population to support PvP but let's not forget that the TEF system was removed prior to the Combat Upgrade because of all of the carebear whiners.

Actually, it was SOE trying to keep the game marketable in East Asian countries.  Japan and other countries passed regulation against "Forced PVP" to protect the public.  They had cases of attacks and death related to in game conflicts that boiled out of control.  This is really why the TEF went away.  SWG was ment to be a global giant for MMOs and had to yield to a universal format.  The CU didn't make things better and was viewed an insult in its unfinished and buggy state.

Then EA closed the Japanese severs as the CU pop in Asia started to crash.

It was a carebear movement from other games, in a sense.

If someone is so weak that they take their own lives over a game, I call evolutionary perogative and say that it is great that those genes were removed (as well as the walking psycho case).

Non-consensual PvP is the ONLY PvP, otherwise people only fight "when in the mood" or when they ahve maximum advantage.
