I don't understand what the fuss is about, there seems nothing wrong with the graphics to me.
The Warhammer 3D models might not be the most technically complex around today, but to me at least they seem to have been done with such style & flourish that they look superb.
I would much rather see something done extremely well at a medium level of complexity & with gorgeous attention to detail, than fairly badly at a higher level & with unimaginative usage of textures because the developers had somehow missed the point & thought that 'Highest Polygons = Highest Quality'.
Well that's my opinion anyway & I still remember when people thrilled at the graphics in 'Pong'.
If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?
I dont get it what all the complaining is about. Maybe its coz i've been in closed beta a while already. I used to think the graphics were crap also but before open beta they updated them lots with features enabled etc. Also i assume more settings will be in for live. I think the video settings are still minimal since they still are running alot of software in the background for testing so they dont want to much lag.
I think the graphics look great now. However if you dont set your graphic driver options on in the driver control panel itll probably not look so nice. I noticed before turning on the options the chars etc look really blocky since there's no AA in the game. Now I have anti alliancing, anisotrophic, etc all turned on and the game looks really really good. I own a nvidia 280 but any card should look the same i think as long as its a reasonably good card.
Maybe it depends on what zone you start ? For instance i thought the starter elf lands looked a bit dull, prob the dwarfs also look a bit dull at first ? Empire i like and the scenario also looks really pretty.
Anyway i think the grahics look great and they sure as hell look way way better then wow and then im not talking about artistic value but about pure graphics.
Why is it so hard for games to be able to scale from a crappy system to a high end system. I upgrade my video card every 6 months to a year and while I love WoW it has always made me feel like a waste having such a high end system not being taken advantage of. While I agree gameplay is the most important I would have to say immersion is part of gameplay.
Keith
Because graphics aren't some magical signal that comes shooting out of your video card. Graphics are built by artists. Artists build at a particular range for it to run on many computers or only certain types. You can't force graphics to look better than the highest resolution they were created at. Its like trying to scale a crappy dvd to Blu ray quality..its not possible.
WAR's graphics are better than WoW and older games and even some newer games its not top end which is a good thing for MMOs it means its more stable and runs on more machines so that there is the 'massive' part of an MMO...games like Age of Conan and EQ2 took out massive made it "massive instance zone" which sucks ass. Not to mention the games suck up all your processor so there's little left to handle gameplay elements.
What can't graphics whores who demand high end graphics over gamplay realize this? Its destroying games ... if I wanted a tech demo of graphics I'd make one myself. I want a game. I could care less if there's 10 million poly's or 200 polys as long as its fun.
Yeah the graphics look a bit dated, but better than WOW. Hopefully they'll bring 'em up a notch for those who have the graphics power to do so.
Your making baby jesus cry with your lack of actual computer knowledge. You may know consumer hardware but you and others like yo have a long way to go when it comes to software knowledge.
Developers have a choice to make..do they want all the processing power (yes graphics do take up processor speed as well as your video card!) to go to graphics? Or do they want to balance it with the game play or mostly game play. WAR succeeds in having a good balance. I think if they leaned any further in either direction it would make the game crappy.
The character models and animation are terrible. I'm not complaining about the polygon count..I'm saying they look downright lousy. They could have done a much much better job than what they've put out.
Ah the graphics i see in beta are they the final cut because DAMN they need work. Looks like EQ graphics to me personally before they did the new Luclin models. I can see how this game might be fun loaded up beta last night and had a little go at it. Is it just me or does this seem like the same MMO you've already been playing also. I hope theres something special about this one because unless the RvR is fun as hell for me i dont see me playing this game past two or three months. my graphics settings are EVERYTHING AT MAX btw.
Go play everquest and then come back and play war and tell me then they look the same. War graphics are good, in a game with big pvp battles the graphics are great..do you want another age of conan with awesome graphics but no one can play the sieges because of lag?
I think you are stretching the truth here a bit with the whole EQ remark the graphics imo are fine not the best but there is no way they could have made them as next gen because once you hit the RVR area's and are having a mass RVR battle then this would be Chaos, the graphics are much better than WoW but IMO not as nice as LoTRO i am personally enjoying them to be honest captures that Authentic WAR feeling for me especially the Greenskins.
Plus you need to realise that this game is direct Competition for WoW so you need to cater for the masses like WoW and you are not gonna do this with super graphics.
lol, there are newer games coming out that have better graphics quality. Aion for example, however it's a whole different style. Everquest does beat out warhammers and so does world of warcraft. The graphics on warhammer just look choppy around the character outlines....
I really hope the graphics improve come retail.
if you honestly think that original EQ graphics are better than warhammers then no they will never be good enough for you. I think you are maybe the .01% of the population that can look at screenshots of the two games and say EQ is better though. Same with WoW, there is no way that WoW has better graphics.
Screen shots prove NOTHING. You totally didn't understand what I was saying. At this point, the way the graphics look IN BETA , looks like Warhammers graphics aren't up to par with many games out there. However, if this is really the graphics set on medium, and at launch they will be able to be upped to full quality, I may change my opinion but right now they are not great. Why they would make the graphics worse then what they are in retail, then it's stupid. Why wouldn't they show the real graphics in beta, so stupid. Just a good way to lose customers, guess when people start saying in retail "wow the graphics are amazing now, 180 turn around!", then people will start ordering their games again that they cancelled, lol. If graphics are changed in retail, I'll be pretty happy. I don't need alot to please me. I use to play asheron's call, I've played runescape (which sucks), I've played games like silkroad...which are more cartoony than Warhammer.
Warhammer is a good game, don't get me wrong. I enjoy it. But there is something about it right now, that doesn't totally appeal to me. The graphics are pretty good, but right now aren't nearly as good as everquest. However like I said, retail comes and we can change them, I'll change my tune. But no one knows that that's exactly the case.
Graphics don't make the game. I enjoy it, but if the graphics are an eye sore "which in some areas on this game, they are at the moment", then It can really turn me off from a game. Granted, I'll play a game like flyff which I never have, for the gameplay if it was good. I think I'm just overall not satisfied at this point because I have a good graphics card and I've seen it run games like EQ, Wow, Lineage 2, and others with crystal clear graphics. Warhammers looks a bit choppy. Lakes look choppy near the bank and don't look real enough, some npcs and beasts look like their outlines haven't been done right because they look choppy and u can see white on them...
Graphics don't make the game which is WHY I'm going to continue playing and make this my main game now. I still can complain because I think graphics are what turned me to this game (cinematic trailers, pvp videos on youtube, and screenshots that looked alot better then what I'm seeing). Now that I love the gameplay and the graphics aren't bad, I'll stay.
If graphics would be an isue WoW would already be dead for years. This is not an issue at all.
then whats the point in playing this instead of WoW which is already established?
The RvR among other things, get over it man, graphics do not make a game...
Ok you trade RvR for Raiding so what. Still nothing special about this game.
If you don't have anything more intelligent/constructive to say, then it's probably not a good idea to continue posting garbage in this forum. You aren't getting anywhere by throwing around unfounded opinions that are not only misguided, but also ridiculously idiotic. Tell me this: Are you getting anything accomplished by claiming, first, that EQ graphics are superior to the engine found in WAR, and then by making idiotic generalizations like the one found above? No, you aren't. Go do something more productive with your time, rather than provoke inane argumentation over opinionated statements that have absolutely no support whatsoever - other than your own determination to prove how stupid you are. /endrant

You have been proved wrong so let it go. Now you are making a fool out of yourself. Next time open your eyes and have a look at the screens posted in this topic. Are graphics as good as Conan? NO; are they better than WOW? Of course yes. I would rather find a balanced ground when it comes to graphics. Game play is what i care about and WAR go it plenty.
Wow looks better. Not everyone thinks a higher number polygons makes better game graphics. Lighting, color, contrast, hue and artwork actually mean something too.
Ok you trade RvR for Raiding so what. Still nothing special about this game.
Who ever said there was something special about it?
It doesn't have to be special to be fun, which is exactly what people enjoy about it (it's fun). Another contributing factor is that, there hasn't been a decent game released dedicated to PVP in a long time. AOC was touted as such, yet failed horribly. Where they failed Mythic succeeded, there's little more to it than that.

I agree Graphics could be better ... and they very well may enable more graphics options for retail, OR even a little bit a time b4 launch.
But they gameplay seems interesting so far anyway ...
But .. the reason they havent now ( if they are going to) you have to remember this is BETA ..
Those that got in on the open Beta are here for testing purposes .. mostly server stressing at this stage in the game and to report any bugs theyve missed B4 launch..
You want amazing graphics and huge RvR battles at the same time? Guess what, it's not going to happen for a very very very long time so get over it. For what warhammer is trying to accomplish, the graphics are perfect. And honestly, who gives a flying f*** what the game looks like so long as its fun. You eyecandy whores don't have a clue.
The art is very consistent with the setting, which is what I'm interested in. Azeroth has always been bright and colorful, Warhammer never really has. You can paint your guys to be colorful, or just get something like my witch hunter's Fabulous Boots (blazing red to contrast with all my brown-and-white, and thigh-high), or paint yourself different. Big, scary golden armor is something I'm seeing more on Chosen, and Black Orcs are really working their colorful magic, too. The game has MUCH more color than something as artistically, emotionally dead as Age of Conan, which was high-tech and remarkably low-soul. This game has a lot of neat artwork to it, it has a lot of very solid visual choices, and it isn't nearly as dead as something like EQ, whose art direction was completely scattered and not remotely mindful of a sense of visual unification. Everything here looks like it belongs here.
If you're interested in a Massively Multiplayer Online Game because you think it'll look good, you've sort of missed the point of the genre.
Warhammer Online, much like the World of Warcraft which every MMORPG seeks to imitate these days, is a game built to be played on a large number of people's computers. Consequently, the graphics are diminished to the point where a greater number of players can play it.
That said, they did the best job they could in their confines. Warhammer Online doesn't look bad. It just doesn't look like Crysis - and that's understandable considering how few people can actually play Crysis at a great frame rate.
Im not stretching ****. They use pastel color base on these models to give you a illusion of some immersion in graphics but they are EQ models.
Whatever you say, buddy. At least try to act moderately informed about the topic.
Holy crap, that brings back memories. Amazing how good those kitties still look.
I'll admit it, when I first logged onto OB and saw the graphics I was a little disappointed. Didn't seem like it had the looks of what I expect from a newer MMO. Fortunately I got over it quickly as I played Public Quests, Scenarios and ran quests all in the first few levels. Really when I am in RvR I'm not taking time to look around and take in the scenery. I'm looking for targets and taking care of other players on my team.
I don't have to level to 40 to participate and, as a result, there are lots of people participating and lots of things to do. I'd agree with others that have posted that gameplay is more important than graphics especially in RvR.
I really wonder how trolls like the OP get away with posting this trash to start arguements, when i can't even call people a idiot without getting banned for 2 weeks.
Seriously though, stop trolling, you literally make me sick with how obvious you are.

I can see this thread still has a chance to turn into a screenie parade (), so here's one from me:
then whats the point in playing this instead of WoW which is already established?
When I finally got in I was underwhelmed by the graphics.
I am hopeing that they add more options for better grapics by launch, but I am a realist so what we see is prob. what we get :-)
Just a note ... the graphics grow on you as you play ..... or is it just the gameplay that wins you over I dunno

I like the graphics, but it's mostly because they can still look nice on my pathetic 256 card.
Poor AoC on the lowest settings runs worse and looks worse than WAR on highest frames.
They should keep the graphics as they are for people with low-end computers and add additional features for the high-end people to enable.
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed.
You have been playing with your ball of catnip again Goldknyght?
