i feel sorry for the people who cancelled their pre oreder claiming the game was too easy. ALL MMOs ARE EASY IN THE BEGINING! I only died like once or twice in WOW reaching level 9, same with LOTRO. TIER ONE is a starting zone, i am still getting help/tutorial prompts in tier 2. the game gets alot harder. you are going to get your ass handed to you when you get to higher level content/combat. people who dont have the patience to get to higher more difficult levels need to stick to console games and stay off this board. The game is just as easy/hard as any mmo out on the market.

Personally, I feel it's been taking longer than normal to level during the first levels compared to other games. I know in WoW, you are level 5 after doing a few quests and killing some mobs; usually within the first half hour or so. That's one thing in particular I noticed when playing WAR.
yeah it takes about twice as long, which is about right. 40 levels in WAR, 70 levels in WOW. I dont want to be level 40 in one week so it's a good thing.
It also has twenty fewer levels than WoW, and useful, meaningful skills at basically every level rather than Rank 2, Rank 3, Rank 4, and Rank 5 of whatever you happen to get interspersed throughout the 60, like WoW. A new, real skill every level, plus Renown Ranks being usable to focus your character more where you want it to be. The leveling is slightly slower, but if you're RvRing, you're leveling both Renown and standard ranks at once, and each gives you something meaningful, be it new tiers of available gear or new skills that are really useful for something.
Confess! is fucking interesting as Hell; I love parrying and then stealing a Black Orc's big choppa for five seconds on end and stabbing him all up while he's punching me. Most of the skills in this game have actual mechanics attached, and really cool design decisions made; you don't get Fireball and Pyroblast, which just does more damage with a longer cast time; you get Fireball and Fissure, and Fissure does some interesting new shit instead of just being another damaging spell, like adding a Hex which can then be taken advantage of by other abilities. It inspires the creation of different paths of opportunity and usage for different situations and it makes combat much more interesting... and gives you something to think about.
Go ahead. Spam fireballs on a Brightwizard. I'll see you at the nearest chapter area, buying off your death penalty.
As for being 40 in a week... you can grind up to stuff pretty fast. The folks who WANT to powerlevel are going to DO it.
The thing about the 40 levels is they're bolstered by 80 Renown ranks, which have a separate skill tree and an advancement system all on their own. Throughout your 40 levels, you will eventually gain 25 Mastery points to put into your skill trees. Each tree has 15 points, which means you can grab one and two-thirds.
When you're Renown Rank 80, you'll have gained four more, which means you can -almost- max two trees, only missing out on the big Morale ability at the very top.
Or you can dabble in a second.
There are a lot of options, and most of them are quite viable, especially with how the (not obvious) skill trains you have to figure out interact with one another; often, one spell will be bolstered by a skill from another discipline, which means you have to decide where to put your emphasis. I really like the Absolution skill; direct damage, that's great. Unfortunately, maxing that skill will leave Razor Strike, which is on another path, underpowered. So I balance them out, or I decide to use Torment instead, which has whole -new- mechanics.
It's all quite interesting to design junkies. >_>;
I have to say that I think it takes much, much longer to level 1-10 in WAR than EQ2, WoW, LotRO, or DAoC.
In addition there is a LOT more to do 1-10 than in all those games combined.
* Getting the full rewards for the first two Public Quests.
* Getting all the Influence rewards.
* Doing the Scenarios, getting Renown rewards.
* Farming Kills, filling out Tome Discoveries.
And that's if you don't go to the other Race's on your side's starting areas.
Of course, you could just skip all the content and PL.
But, then why bother playing at all.
Quite frankly, those that want a REALLY slow leveling game should just go play EVE. That is a fine game, and it will take years to get to max 'Level' (Ya, I know EVE has no Levels, but you all know what I mean).
Good Hunting
First off I agree with your post, but I'm just correcting a little bit of misinformation. It takes 15 points to max out the passive benefits of the tree, but you can invest a total of about 22 points per tree. When the bar reaches an ability on the mastery, that does not mean the ability is trained. You have to spend an additional point to learn the ability/tactic when it becomes available for training on the mastery path.
My problem wasn't leveling speed but everything is too easy I could just run into groups of mobs even at level 31 and solo everything and never fear death.... no real group PVE content too and public quests are just mass solo content.
lol at hardcore players... you make me laugh so much, "Game is to Easy", this is not 1990's where MMO's were all about leveling, now we actually have an End Game content, in this case would be RvR, what is the most awesome thing of this? is that the difficulty depends on the community.
Go level RR and see how easy that is rofl.
The PVE in WAR wasn't meant to be breathtaking or hard. The game's focus is PVP so if you figured PVE is easy, you now know why. Getting to renown 80, hell even 15 takes quite a long time.
hmm if i recall War is supposed to be about the end game...they put 40 levels so it would be such a huge grind to get to the really fun sieges etc...dungeons what have you
Uhh... what?
I think you mean that it "would not" be such a huge grind Auzy.
Taking along time to lvl builds community and brings player friendships closer. just wish WAR would make it 35+ to rvr so the game lasting relationships had time to build
Ever since L2, I hate grinding lvls.
So War is fine with me
Its really sad that after so many years in development they could barely get 40 levels worth of content in. AOC has 80 levels so already a big strike against WAR.
lol
more levels obviously = more content.... Wow people are so smart nowadays.
I hope everyone understands that there are 40 pve levels and 80 pvp levels, for a total of 120 levels to achieve. Plus your guild also levels up, so lots of development fun.

do guild lvls = TOA ML'S?
It's gonna take a bit of time to hit 40 Rank. But it'll probably take double the time or more to hit 80 RR. It's gonna take a while to cap your guy.
Guild levels from 1 to 40 based on the contribution and activities of its members. I dont know how the calculation works but its neat regardless
Actually in WAR there are 120 levels, 40 pve and 80 pvp. So AoC can EAD.
Devs can and will add levels when the time is right.
ZOMG wow only has 60 levels?! ...oh nvm. soon it will be 80. Get the point?
Damnit....ERLING please go back to work and fix your PIECE OF SH*$ game! I am sick of you trolling these boards and trying to convince people that your flawed, on its way to the graveyard of MMOS, failure of a game is worth a damn. It's not.
EQ2 has 80 levels. It's twice that of WAR, there just isn't any comparison.
DAoC has 50 levels but on the normal servers there are Master Levels (ToA) and/or Champion Levels. DAoC also has Realm Ranks which means that leveling in DAoC is MUCH MUCH longer than in WAR or even WoW. There just isn't any comparison at all, and that is quite a bold attempt at a comparison to make if you have played that game (I can understand the ignorance if you haven't).
EQ1 will soon have a max level of 85 with the Seeds of Destruction Expansion.
WoW has 70 levels, not 60. That's 30 levels more than WAR. The faction/gear grinding puts it on par with EverQuest and DAoC in terms of grind, and lots of people complain about the grind in WoW. The only people who don't complain about it are the people who only PvE and hardly ever raid or PvP.
Same goes for DAoC. Without grinding those MLs and RR ranks, you are pretty useless in RvR in that game.
Lineage II has 80 levels, and it can take the average game over a year to reach the level cap
What you listed is nothing interesting, and exists in all games.
Getting full rewards from the first two PQs, Influence rewards, Doing the Scenarios, and farming kills is akin to what is done in pretty much every other MMO. It is just Mythic's way to try to disguise the grind.
It is no different than killing the same raid mobs over and over again to get drops off of it to gear toons out.
It is not different than running the same instances over and over again to get the gear drops in them.
It is not difference than camping the same named mob over and over again to get the drops off of it.
It is not different than faming a certain area in the game to get all of your spells to fill out you spellbook (players from EQ know all about this).
Yes, I know it's astounding, but PvP can get pretty boring in a linear game. That is why so many people like FFA PvP games. Freedom is power.
The Talent/Feat system has been around since DAoC and later in EverQuest in the form of Alternate Advancement abilities (except those were less limited in that you could max them all out).
BG's have been there since DAoC.
Public Quests really aren't such a huge innovation, just a rehash of old ideas, but people just love to think they are some huge innovation (Lol).
People will skip content and PL because PvP games aren't there for replay value. No matter how much you try to make the PvE interesting, it always comes down to the fact that you aren't a factor if you're level 10. Look at pretty much every MMORPG out today with multiple expansions and you can see that most content that is released for a game after the first 1-2 years of its life is over is aimed primarily (not solely) at the higher levels. Only the passive changes and additions trickle down to the lower levels.
PvP games have and almost always will be based on the level of you toon, as long as there is a leveling system in these types of games.
Leveling speed depends on alot of factors, but hardcore players usually have 6+ hours a day 6+ days a week to play their choice game and their leveling speed usually blows the socks off of the average casual.
WAR will be successful because it is new. Age of Conan sucked and it was still relatively successful launch (monetarily speaking). But, I do wonder if this game has enough in it to hold the attention span of a large majority of the players that will play it past the 4-5 month mark. Only time will tell, and being wrong is not a bad thing, in regards to that!
i used to be "hardcore". Played 8hrs a day, 7days a week.
Now I'm a dad, home-owner......can you say 10hours/week, if I'm lucky.
