Fence sitting poll

I was thinking about the people who are going to play Wow and the EQ2ers, and the intersection of both those sets. (Math Geek) I am probably going to buy both and play both. How about you guys?

    WoW only for me.

And you do know this poll is oging to be largely one-sided in WoW's favor because you're posting it in this forum, right? :P

I seriously doubt that WoW and EQ2 will be coming out at the same time (even the same day for that matter). Both Blizzard and SOE says they're coming out in 2004 but the whole November 15th date was set by a store, not the companies themselves.

In any case, I'm sticking with WoW and will be solely buying that game. I've been let down WAY too many times by SOE to even think about wasting my money on buying any of their products from here on out.

Perhaps EQ2 were being made by a different company, I'd be willing to atleast try it out but from SOE, don't expect very much in terms of quality.

Yep, I'm thinking one of them will sneak out earlier than the other. To steal some thunder if nothing else.

I only have enough money for one and my computer can only run one. WoW for me.

If my computer could run both, and I could afford both, I would most definately buy both. But since I can't, WoW is the game for me.

I voted for buying EQ2 only. When playing EQ1 I played off and on, so that might happen with EQ2 and I might pick up WoW at a later date, that is unless EQ2 really hooks me. I do want to try out WoW but just that EQ2 has my attention more now, especially after I put in my pre-order.

I would like to try both, but definately WoW first.  Should of had a poll option for one now, one later

  • AnnekynnAnnekynn Member Posts: 1,437

WoW first, DnL second, and EQ2 maybe later.

Chose WoW only, mainly because I will only have time for one and WoW caught my eye the most.  Besides all my friends are on WoW and that made the decision real easy!  I couldn't imagine trying to play both games, work, be married, and try to have a life.  Bah, that is hard enough with one mmorpg!

I been hearing from some of my friends who got into the beta test of EQ2 that it sux compared to WoW, they get 60 fps with WoW and 10 with EQ2 even on medium settings.

From the screenshots the graphics just dont appeal to me at all.

Missing one, buying WoW definetly. Will wait a few months to see if EQ2 lives up to it's promising fetures. Been burned by SOE before don't want to get burned again. If it turns out okay will play both...not sure yet though...WoW is a must though. :)

I'll bet EQ2 comes out before WoW, simply because SOE has the reputation of putting a product out that is real real horrible (SWG at release, you get the picture).  Blizzard > SOE when it comes to gaming.

BTW, WoW only.  After watching some friends play EQ and reading about it, there's no way I'm going to even try the second one.

I will be buying WoW only. Maybe one day down the road I will pick EQ2 up and try it out. But, to start off it will just be one game and WoW is my choice. I don't want to have to split up my free time between 2 games, I would rather only focus on one.image

SWG was the love child of that Star Wars nazi and SOE. Give SOE the benefit of the doubt on that one... How many games has Lucas touched that have turned to crap? I don't actually care how many, but it's a lot (some good ones too, although I wasn't big on them--KOTOR).

EQ1 was Verant. SOE was just some money as far as I know. You have SOE to thank for the expansions after Velious, that's all. Love it or hate it.

Then there is Planetside. Never played it, so I can't comment.

So really, I don't have much SOE experience to be honest. All I know is they have an immense pool of resources to pull from. Network code, graphics assets, intellectual property (lore, etc), and MONEY. Sure they are interested in bottom line, just like Blizzard. But to make the bottom line fat, the game has to be fun. That's the bottom line... This time, unlike SWG, there is no monkey on their back. That's the biggest thing.

EDIT: One more great thing about the next generations of MMOGs that are imminent: No longer are folks just buying up any MMOG that comes out just because thousands of people are in it, they are waiting until they can try them... being more picky. The devs know this now. And it's only to our benefit.

I am mainly going with WoW. I'd like to go try EQ2, but I don't have $250-$500 bucks to just throw around and buy a new video card for my comp when I only bought it 1yr ago (not a piece of junk either). WoW is going to my choice upon release.

99% of my MMORPG entertainment will come from playing WoW.

The other 1% will be from laughing at all the "Why I'm leaving EQ2"/"SOE just blew their last chance"/"EQ2=Laaaaaaaaaaaaaag" posts on this forum.

I give WoW 2-3 months tops for most of you here. It will shine bright and burn out quickly, I guarantee it. That's the type of game it is. Bookmark this post and come back then and tell me I was wrong.

Then you will be all looking for something to do. Wish and DnL won't be out yet. Matrix Online will still be in beta probably... So what MMORPG will you come to play?

    That's right...

    It's interesting how perceptions differ...

WoW will have content added on a monthly basis and with PvP battlegrounds to face off against your peers and with two nations at war, I can't see myself tiring of it for the foreseeable future.

Have you played WoW yet BTW? I'm genuinely interested to know.

Yes, I have, otherwise I wouldn't have made that claim.

So would you care to elucidate on your point that "that's just the type of game WoW is" given the fact that WoW will have content added on a monthly basis and have PvP battlegrounds and a full RvR system?

You didn't really go into any detail, and I'm eager to learn what will make EQ2 such a rivetting experience when the only reason there'll be to level up is to level up even more.

Hey man, it's just my opinion. Backing it up would be pointless to you. Most of my sentiments are mirrored in other posts around here about WoW anyway. I enjoyed playing it when I did, but like I said, it felt immediately like a game that would be short-lived.

Just check back here in 4 months and tell me if you are still enjoying it.

Oh now I understand. It's just a hunch.

Personally I like to base my opinions and expectations on solid facts, like the fact that WoW will have monthly content added as well as PvP and RvR, whereas EQ2 will have no incentive to level up other than to fight bigger monsters.

Each to their own, and yes - we'll see who's playing what in four months ::::28::

Thx for all the responses. I was going to buy EQ2 only but then I saw some of these posts here and i realize that WOW will have lots to offer. I then changed my stance to deciding buying both. Then i thought aboud SWG, and I was hoping that SOE had cleaned up their act, but we don't know what EQ2 will be like at realease the the weeks following. So I changed my mind again image I am going to buy WOW play it for 3-4 months and then revisit the EQ2 decision. I want to know how it will turn out. Will it be another SWG disaster (my opinion) If so i will stay with WOW if not i may buy the thing.

    Thx for all your input.

I wouldn't be so quick to say that. Sure EQ2 doesn't have PvP but exploring seems like it will be a main part of the game. Unlocking new areas, finding out just why the world is the way it is, why things are the way they are. In the first game, things were just there. With WoW we know why the world is in the state it is already due to Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne and the lore inbetween. In order to find out thee things and more in EQ2, one needs to level up. Socializing, raiding,,and finding out who knows what else will all be reasons to level up but its been said on doesn't need nor should fly through things cause you'd miss a lot of the game. EQ has always been strange in its goal, it really never had a clear cut one to be honest, but tthen again I think that is its charm, just like how Ultima Online doesn't really have a endgame goal. You make your own goal in these games. I think once things are found in EQ2(should take some time) and the expansiosn start coming out people will end up making their own goals. Its good though that WoW has a clear defined one and I hope the story advances as well. Will be interesting to see what landmasses the add, maybe portals to other worlds. :)

Will WoW be short lived I don't know to be honest. I hope it won't be. But I can understand how people might think that or feel that way. I haven't played it, I wasn't able to get into the beta :(, so I really can't make that claim or say that it will be long lived. Just the same for EQ2 but I do feel it will be great and I think WoW will be great, each in just different way since they are clearly trying to do different things and not simply be copies of each other.
