hmmmmm dont over hype a game that has enough hype already. remember AoC?
AOC was the same..
look what happend.

Yeah, but unlike AoC, WAR doesn't SUCK. The game was built for distance. AoC was built up by nothing but upfront hype vapors.
Nope can't say it. But I can say LOLOLOL!
Comparing these two game is assinine. At launch, the general public had NO IDEA what lay in store for them after tortage. nda was still up, beta was capped at level 13...etc. Aoc still had people snowballed at launch.
War is not hiding behind nda's etc. We know what we are buying.
Your comparison fails miserably.
I'll put it in simpler terms for you:
AoC is like one of those lame frontloaded movies like "Dukes of Hazzard" that just fizzles out
while WAR is like the movie "The Dark Knight." It'll just keep on trucking until it makes it to the big time.
Force unleashed is only 3rd? That is surprising.
I for one, bought both

when AOC first came it it was haild by the masses. after people reached level 40 it was then that people strated to hate it and see the flaws
so you never know.

ok here is why people go 'can you say AoC' and such.
They burned us. They burned us hard. They are still buring us, and making a horrid name for MMORPG's. So it is completely understandable that people get iffy about new releases and such.
Me and my woman have high hopes for WAR, but while she is one of the ones that wants to rush and get it, i want to wait a bit to see what issues arrise from the thousands of people slamming the login server/s, and trying to make their toons move when there are 200 other squig hearders/white lions standing in the same spot.
some of you are like hey wait head start fixes that, no it dont...most teens that will play this game cant pre-order do to having to have a CC in most cases. so stores are going to get slammed too. now i'm just rambling lol.
I can say it sure. But um Warhammer had an open beta with most of the NDA removed and it twas decently bug free and not lacking in any features who's cuts had not been announced months before.
Or in other words "Can u say rentention?"
Because was and is AoC downfall. It just won't be the case that everyone likes WAR. But the people who do buy it will stay for the most part.
AoC retention <25%. WAR retentnion probably something like 70%.
Which means WAR will have 500k subs IMO. It also means that it will likely achieve the critical mass necessary to become a "hit" and will see the kind of growth other MMOs and investors do not understand why they don't get.
Its simple once you get enough subs the sheep follow the herd. A small herd becomes a big herd. But you need to get to the cirtical mass to be considered a herd.
AoC could have done this they had the sales but messed up in retention. WAR will not mess up the retention. I do not expect everyone to like WAR, but those willing to play it for a bit won't see much reason to leave. And the more you play it the better it gets not the worse. Not that at level 40 is pure ectasy or something, but people will stay. Those people who go through the first few level and dismiss well they will be that 30%.
Well yo uhae two options, considering that your concerns are valid and well founded.
A) wait for a bit, maybe a month and see how things settle into.
Go in realizing you may need to re-roll to another server or toon or something. In this case probably go in with the idea of being very experiemtnal in your gampelay.
The first one will save you 15 bucks. You can say that it also saves you time and effort. But is that true? Only if you do something really productive in the mean. If instead you are like me and would just be playing another MMO that you have problems with anyway (for me its DDO, good combat lots of other bad stuff) it comes out in WAR's favor.
So do whatever you like. I have done what you are saying before. Its not a bad idea. But it may not actually help you in any real way. Unless you just can't stop yourself from being frustrated. And that is generally a matter of expectations and "what ifs".
I for one, bought both
I plan on buying both as well. But still its a console game and its star wars and very hyped. I have seen commericails on major TV.
Its not that War is number 1 its that Maro kart is also beating it. WAR is wild card I have no idea how to quantify that. But I figured Force Unleashed to be beating mario kart.
I think this is a testament to the Wii really. Note to all you people stuck on all sorts of nerdy minutae in MMORPGs. Inclusive Fun > Everything else. I would actually consider buying my 70 year old parents a Wii. I don't think they have ever played a video game in their life.
And all the industry insiders thought the Wii would be second bannana. Ha.

asshat.
By the time of WOTLK release WAR will alreayd have whatever head of steam it is going to get.
Its release won't be much of an issue. Sure it would be better if there wasn't one. It could pull away the commited but bored.
But by the time of the release of WOTLK, WAR will either be standing on its own two feet or its retention will fail and we start to know.
It will be easy to see. If it stays at number 1 then in order to not stand on it own two feet it will need to have a "rats fleeing a sinking ship" effect like AoC had.
Anyone buying WAR right now will either stay with WAR or play both WAR and WOTLK unless they simply do not like WAR. Only people dissatisified with WAR will leave. WOTLK will not lure anyone who actually buys WAR away.
There will be almost no one who says "Man, WAR is a really nice game, but I am going to play WOTLK". Anyone buying it this early will either play only WAR or will play both if they like WAR.
It won't be until 6 months or so that you will see a WAR or WoW type thing going on. Once things settle down and people feel comfortable about how things go and have some idea about stuff and might be looking to save time or money.
It won't be until after the holidays that a significant number of people even bother deciding between the two.
This is all based on WAR sales not on WAR making a significant dent in WoW's population. If WAR sells 1 million in the next two months. That does not mean that WOTLK won't sell well as well. It simply means that WAR will most likely be well established.
Once WAR is well established then the real competition will begin.

WAR is well ahead of AOC at this point in both their life times, however very few people have any clue about the end game of WAR either. T4 NDA is still up buddy boy. We don't have much of a clue how its going to play outsid of what we've been told by Mythic staff.
What we do know right now is that the queues are horrendous, so any Mythic fanboy(not you) that's mocked Blizzard in the past might have to eat some crow right now. But I'm sure its OK when it happens to a game they like, right?

fatgamer you don't have a woman because you're fat and no one likes you..stop trying to feel superior on the internet you coward.
Did you know(tm)?
That WAR will not be the only game released? In fact, two other BIG games (that it is currently trouncing atm) are being released close to and on the same date as WAR. In fact, one of those games (Spore), was supposed to easily dominate WAR in initial sales.
The more you know(tm)
I agree to most of what u saying. But the quoted comment was really lol for me. Are u really expecting to SEE competition WAR vs WoW? he he one of the mythic people said that WAR cannot even come close to WoW's success!
But again GL and i hope to play also a-bit from some friend preorder account before i decide to get it or not!
There will always be competition. The question is whether its a neglibile amount for WoW. I have no idea in that regard.
But either way it won't be neglible for WAR.
Keep in mind that WoW has a playerbase of about 4-5 million in the occident. At least hafl their subs are in the orient. Further this playerbase has not grown by huge leaps and bound that is also caused by the orient. It has grown well but for the occident it is not the huge juggernaut some people like to claim. It has seen about 50% growth over like 2 years.
If WAR hits 1 million occidental subs in say 6 months then they are a significant competitor to WoW in the occident. Cetainly WoW would still be top dog, but WAR would be something had to keep a serious eye on.
Waht will happen in the orient I have no idea.
Given the sales numbers of AoC. And given that it looks like WAR will repeat those numbers. I actually think that some sort of decent amount of competition with WoW in the occident is possible. Assuming good retention numbers.
I would go so far as to say that WAR would give WoW a serious run in Europe if it weren't for GOA. If GOA continues in a similar vein to what it has so far, well it will hurt WAR in what is possibly its best market for competing against WoW.
The question will be retention. I will be surprised if retnetion is bad. Quite surprised. Whether it will be stellar I have no idea. But I doubt it will be bad.
I really don't care if WAR competes with WoW or not. It really does not matter no matter what anyone says. If it gets 500k subs the game will be fine and as far as other companies making games and getting money etc. It doesn't matter really, that will depend on break developers more than anything else. And I am not talking about Darkfall.
Just going by the numbers. If WAR gets 700k boxes sold in 2 months and then continues to about 1.2 million in 6months and they have like 60-70% retention then, in the occident, then they will be a significant competitor. Obviously 5 million is better than 1 million but anyone who says 20% market share is insignificant is either supid or aspinning BS.
So unless Tier 3 and Tier 4 are really bad, which according to a number of elder testers it is fairly consistent with what was in Open Beta, I doubt you will see the deflation of AoC. And IMO opinion since AoC STILL sold 100k more boxes when all its crap was well known I feel fairly confident there is enough hunger out there to say that WAR will sell similar to AoC but with less deflation.
So 1.2 mill boxes sold in 6 months seem easily possible. Of course the market is fickle and maybe people won't like WAR who knows.
But anyone looking at AoC sales and not thinking a game can compete with WoW in a significant way I think is fooling themselves. And you can't blame it all on hype. Yeah funcom lied about a lot of things and hyped up a bunch of stuff.
Hype is always based on something that actually exists, it never creates anything only enhances what already exists.
If WAR stays at #1 for say the next month I think it will show that no matter how much Funcom based their sales on BS, there is still a large potential for competition with WoW in the market.
Afterall it is rather hard to say that WAR's sales would be based on the same kind of hype that AoC may have been. I mean Mark Jacobs is like 180 degrees from Gaute and Ellingsen.

Uh the queues are purposely low and will be doubled within a day ...
Can you hyper ventilate more?
