c) give an easy way to determine the skill strength of other players
d) make max lvl characters something to aspire to, further entrenching you into their game universe
e) Generate monthly fees by extending journey to best loot and end game content
f) If you get to max, you usually build another toon to see if you can lvl him faster now that you know what you're doing which helps with e)
g) push players to different areas after a zone no longer gives xp , leaving it to chars of appropriate skill strength, skill variety and level
These and other reasons for it primarily serve the company, and I have no problem with that, but doesn't really add anything to the gameplay that a non-lvl based games couldn't. So if the game is built for lvls, its probably best to just lvl otherwise there just won't be enough to do cuz they rationed out the content over many lvls and felt by the end you've enjoyed 95% of their game and just have to provide you with a few raids here and there to top it off.

100% no. I find leveling from 1 - max is the most enjoyable process of the game. If that was taken out, I would feel as if I had learned or gained nothing along my non-existant journey to the top. This is one of the reasons why Guild Wars could not satisfy my MMORPG urge.

no not to max level as you don't get to enjoy every upgrade you get, where you can spend x or y gold and all that. But a faster journey I wouldn't mind. I mean when I'm playing for 5 hours and looking what I've achieved, and it's just a some bars in an xp bar and that's just rubbish. I think sometimes there should be casual and hardcore servers.
God's sake, did I write that? I should really read my posts before I post them.
I said only on alts but after thinking about it I would probably prefer to just have a test server I could mess around with max level builds on then do the leveling for real.
If the leveling content is so crap that I feel the need to skip it, then ill just leave the game. Having an option to auto level is just a way of saying we know are leveling contents crap but we can not be bothered to fix it.
25 of you would choose to skip past leveling? Idiots, maybe your shopping in the wrong game section, there's an aisle I'm sure specifically made for you types it's in the pre-school / kindergarten section, of course you could always buy an account on ebay.
Skipping leveling is like skipping the game, it would be like buying the board game CLUE, and setting up all the pieces and instead of playing you open the envelope and find out who the killer is without wasting any time actually playing, so you've just bought the game for nothing.
At least there are SOME people that understand the reason for the need for leveling, if you can't enjoy a game at lvl 1 to 10, you won't enjoy the game at the last 10 levels of the game. I swear some people here if they ran the world, specifically those that would choose to never level, would lead the world in the direction of that movie Idocracy, cars would constantly drive off cliffs because bridges would never be repaired, the crops would never grow because they would feed them powerade instead of water, fuddruckers would be changed to buttf__kers and videogames could be beaten in 1 second by simply moving your character to the pile of gold 1 step away.
If leveling really is fun then why not add an option to make a max level character? Worked just fine for guild wars. I made a max level char for pvp first. Had a blast. Decided which class combo I liked the best. Then made a PVE character and leveled it up along with 3 others
If the game is fun, then it won't matter people will level anyway. If the game is a grinder, then people will prefer max level characters
City of Heroes most fun I ever had in that game was when they let us make max level characters on the Test Server.
I would only do it in a beta to test different classes at max level. I don't like grinding, but I don't want to skip content. My ideal MMO would be one without levels, so content would be available to everyone at any point. In that case it might be fun to skip the grind, but only if you knew how to play the class once you got there.
Such a game would not interest me. I enjoy the leveling proccess gainning new abilities over time. I also enjoy being able to go to new places that I was unable to when my character was weaker. It gives a sense of progression.
I havent played a game yet where I wanted to jsut skip leveling and become max level...What I find more than not is once I hit that final level and run out of goals I lose interest quickly.......To me the journey is always better than the final destination.......
"Only on alts." Leveling is generally a fun experience for me... not so much in Age of Conan because the content kept going downhill from level 20 and on. It's all about experiencing the game world and exploration, something I probably wouldn't do if I didn't have quests sending me in the general area. I love reading the quests, if they are written well, and if it sends me in a place I've never been before, I'll take the time to explore around.
If I keep playing WAR for the foreseeable future, I'll have more than enough time at the endgame... no need to rush my experience by starting their immediately. For alts, however, I would like the option to either level or start at max level. I think it should be an option that is unlocked when you hit the level cap, although you do lose a lot of time with your character, learning their strengths and weaknesses, while leveling that you would miss out on.

And I still made PvE chars on regular servers....
ah yes this what I had in mind when I voted...

is this really possible if there's no objection? Without leveling?
