I really wanted to like this game. I also gave it a good chance played a few months. However there is nothing they can do that will ever get me back in AoC. A big factor in this is that I have played WAR and it is fantastic. Funcom had their chance and a patient customer but they waited to long and the competition, namely Mythic, has put out a great product with good customer respect and service. The window of opportunity is small nowadays in the mmo world. There is so much more competiton and bigger budgets. A game has to be pretty tight at launch to keep customers. The days of mmo fans waiting for a game to workout the bugs are over. For me the sunset on AoC and will never rise again.

I can understand your pessimism with regards to AoC but believe me if things improve it could rival WoW after all what other game has 50 servers?  They have all the infrastructure there and they are very prudent in terms of their investment like hiring Asian graphic artists shows they know how to get the most bang for their buck the only thing they lacked was putting all that talent to use when they need to which is why they need a competent game designer!  So in that respect I think Funcom has a bright future after all they wouldnt leverage their entire company to support 4 other mmo projects if they did not think they could support it!

Actually you are completely wrong Funcom has a lot of money still and now has over 320 employees and because of this they have a large pool of resources to draw from and even can pull from The Secret World for brief periods of time to get AoC back to 700,000 subscribers again and once they hit profit and turn the corner the stock will go up from 8 to 20+ very fast which isnt the highest but would mean people will still have made money from its initial offering and considering the state of the world economy that ain't bad!

Judging by your name and posts I'm just going to assume you like to cause a ruckus.

You're an anti-troll (the worst kind of troll). Off and away with you, back to the bridge.

LMAO. These guys lied there socks off.  Fans said no they didnt.. then Funcom comes clean and admits the truth HAHA. The game is great but you cant just lie to people over and over then act like nothing happen.. then say SOMEDAY the game will be done .. COME BACK. You can still sky rocket to lvl 80.. but 45-80 the quests get really thin. Servers are DEAD! Like people asking .. why is it dead on Fri night or ALL DAY Sat? So Protus (YES he works for FUNCOM) says.. its Fri night and people want to get out.. so Sat... well they worked all week and want to get out and do stuff. So Monday night .. well people worked all day and want to relax.. LMAO Pro had an excuse for EVERYDAY.. leaving no one to play. The game will never be what it should have been.

Graphics wise and the fighting I love AoC -WAR. But with WAR you get HUGH maps.. tons and tons of quests. You can to to the DWARF, ELF, HUMAN sides to do quests if you like. And RVR .. is just AWESOME.

For ME from beta till now. War KEEP their word and did NOT lie about anything. And is it a SMOOTH launch or what.

  • ZebladeZeblade Member UncommonPosts: 931

Oh I had to add.. just because the STOCK goes up .. you do know that Funcom is NOT.. NOT just AoC yes? AoC can DIE and Funcom stock will still go up and down.  Its like saying SONY stock is going up because of SWG!.. I think they have more than just AoC lol..

They have admitted the truth you see let me tell you about something I noticed.  ERLING ELLINGSON was somewhat dishonest before but we know now that GAUTE was released before DRAGONCON and all of a sudden in the new HYBORIAN INSIDER that Erling was much more truthful which means the management took a new direction and that communication resulted in what is now a very successful PVP PATCH and thus we are starting to see the interconnected synergistic forces of FUNCOM come together very soon into release which bodes extremely well for the future.

After playing WAR, there's no way I'd ever go back to AoC, no matter what changes they made. WAR is a masterpiece.

I just wish I could get my money back for the damn AoC collector's edition I bought. What the fuck was I thinking? Anyone want it.. cheap? Comes with a level 55 Conqueror.

I can understand you wanting to play WAR WAR does not look like a bad game although it depends on the type of gaming style you like if you like combat a bit more fast paced and twitch oriented you really cant beat AoC and not to mention fatalities add a random dynamic not only in terms of visuals but strategy and these are things which maybe WAR has or maybe it does not but the main consideration is what will WAR hold at later levels who knows maybe AoC will look more polished in hindsight.

Good thing you said "maybe". Before I played WAR I might give you the benefit of the doubt. After playing WAR I can say it will never happen. You say "WAR does not look like a bad game depends on the type of game style you like". Play style has nothing to do with it. WAR is simply a much, much better game. Now I am not saying WAR is for you or everyone for that matter. However WAR is in a different class then AoC.

This is not meant as sarcasm or an insult but I am curious. Have you played WAR yet? If you have not do yourself a favor and give it a try. In my scientific analysis of the games I would say there is a 90% chance you will play WAR and never think about AoC again. Remember I used science to get that figure. You know math and stuff like that.  I even used a ruler with some numbers on it.

I am not trying to sell WAR in this thread. I bring up WAR since in my earlier post I mentioned WAR as the final thing to make me totally forget AoC. I saw enough unrealized possibilities with AoC but like I say earlier, you just can not expect people to wait in the current market for a game to mature. If AoC delivered I never would have even tried WAR.

Actually math is not science because math lies within the domain of logical operations (epistemological category of logic) whereas science only incorporates logic to structure empirical evidence so in that sense you couldnt have used both to come to that conclusion.  Perhaps also you are using some subjective common sense perspectives to attach something you enjoy to something you think others must enjoy if we share a similar background.  So I appreciate the connection my friend in terms of experience but even the shared same experience through a different physical (and ultimately metaphysical) lens of sorts will result in different conclusions.

Math is not science dang nice if you had told me before I did my indepth study it cost me about $6.39 No I was not using a subjective common sense perspective. I told you I had a ruler with numbers and some other stuff. One of the things was shiny and had a a little blinking light on it. Also outside of the TV show "Matlock" I never liked anything accept WAR. You do use some pretty cool words though, I like reading them, they kind of sing.

Seriously though all fun aside Funcom had a shot and dropped the ball big time on AoC. It will probably survive. It may even be profitable. However I think the infastructure you comment on will be used to propel another game to the top. AoC was a learning experience for them. Let's hope they actually learn from this. Something SOE never learned from SWG. AoC had enough possibilities to make me want to see what they may do in the future. To late for AoC for me and I think I am not alone in this feeling.

You only need to admit the truth after you've been caught lying.   The MMORPG community needs to stop listening to Developers that treats them like garbage.   Those kind of Developers do exist.   But it's the ones that spew out unproven hype that still get most of the attention

I couldnt believe that SOE stuck with that game killing patch... I seriously expected that they would have to admit they screwed up and roll back... but that never happened.  The interview of Erling Ellison (whats with all these funcom guys with GG EE and so on for intials anyway?) makes me wanna puke. Its like well GAUTE left and heres this new Game Director BUT lets let Erling talk to a reporter spew the same nonesense they have been spewing all along and ruin Gautes farewell party! Really doesnt sound like anything new, theyve been claiming all along they listen to players, when they let funcom fanbois be moderators and delete and move posts and systematically banned those that voiced dissent.

You know, I casually joked in another thread how interesting it is that your account started on the same day Gaute was thrown out. But after reading this in particular, I gotta ask: Gaute, is that you?

Umm... Funcom stock is PLUNGING. It will take a long long time to even make it start going back up, it hasn't even leveled out yet. And their publisher took multimillion dollar dip too.

The PvP patch is a joke. They can't even do player sieges with FPS over 10, and thats capped at 20 some people.

AoC was never on top, and it never will be. This is what companies get for lying and stealing from customers.

Ummm have you seen the state of the stockmarket in general?Like in the past few days? There is not 1 stock that is unaffected in the world.

I mean really saying it is plunging is not news every stock is plunging. The market is in a down cycle ALL OVER THE WORLD.

My prediction:In 1 year after launch AoC is game of the year.Stock goes to a new all time high for FC and the servers will be full of WoW and WAR players.

    Flame on.

    What is your physical limit?

Same weak ass "It's the economy!!" argument.

Funny how the rest of the economy didn't drop like a rock when Funcoms' Q2 report came out. Yet Funcoms' did. And has continued to fall rapidly since then.

That this game was ever "on top" is highly debatable, did it outsell most mmos at release? Sure but no one can deny it just as quickly alienated most of those people, so let's say they are putting themselves in a position to make a run for the top (whatever that actually is supposed to be) they have to do many things still Gaute leaving seems to be a step in the right direction but what they need to do is figure out what this game is supposed to be there seems to be no direction as far as focus, is it pve pvp? Can this game be optimized well enough to allow more people to play "comfortably" it takes alot of power to run this game and it is just for graphics and to this point they have not shown themselves to have a handle on this technology which is the same basically as they've used on AO.

I've said it before I am hopeful that this game can turn into something decent for those who play it, but I will never play this game again, what they set out to do even if they pulled it off right wouldn't have interested me much but keep in mind they are nowhere near out of the woods even for those willing to give it another shot.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Agreed. Essentially, Funcom would have to have an entire business strategy revamp in order to salvage AoC. It's been too long. If this happened at release, or in beta; there may be a chance. But it's just been too long to catch the public by surprise (in reference to AoC making a comeback).

Only problem with this statement though is that these guys have had a history of problems with a technology that they made (I think) and have used for years. They can pull from wherever they want but chances are most people who have been with this company aren't going to be able to do any better than they have up to this point so unless they do Phluux said and actually hire some people who can get a handle on the game it won't make as big a difference as you think.

I finally figured it out. This is some sort of anti-fanboi performance art. Well done, sir. Well done.
