Serious Trouble with WAR

ok having finally got past the dodgy character thing.... and finally being able to log in.....

I play the game for 5 minutes as chaos chosen, then decided I want to see what the Ork start up was like.... so logged out, countdown, to 5 seconds and then it all locks up....

Ok no worries re-boot system, and start again... 1 st time out I couldnt even see the server I had started the previous character, but proceed to create new character, as a black orc, 'loading interface screen' is as far as it gets... ok re-boot retry again....

and it just gets one screen further the very one before you start playing, have tried many things, but still no luck, just goes to 'not responding' and can't even close it unless I shutdown / restart the whole PC.....

Anyone have a solution to the latest problem? Please I just want to play the damn game

seriously considering just sending it back right now..... but have been looking forward to this game for so long........

It's simple it's your machine thats the issue if so many can log in a use it fine and you can't then it's your machine thats problem, check it's not a graphics issue

Well it certainly isn't the games fault so that leaves your system or something about your system that is unique. I have run it on 4 systems ranging from an AMD 3200+ with a X800 Pro and Windows XP up to my main machine that is a Core 2 Quad system with a GTX280 and Vista 64 bit. All of the machines have run it for hours without any hangups hiccups or problems of any kind. This seems to be a rock solid game.

Hmm... It could be launch-day hiccups of some sort. My suggestion is to submit a ticket via their website. It's not "one-way" like it was in beta, so you will get a response now as to what it might be and so forth.

Could be that their servers are just getting completely hammered and it's messing with the client.

@The person saying "it's obviously your system" - that is a very naive and ignorant comment to make. It very well could be an oddball/obscure issue with WAR and the OP's hardware/software config. Things like this *do* happen, and happen often with any kind of software. The more  systems/configurations it's exposed to, the more potential glitches might pop up. So to say "It's just his system" is to completely ignore an issue that may well need a fix.

Since the last major patch before the CE Head Start, I've been seeing an issue of the client hanging up when attempting to exit the game. The issue gets progressively worse, it seems, the more I've zoned in the game (Scenario instances, death, travel to different zones), which leads me to believe that it's caused by a memory leak. To avoid it, I have to make sure I log out of the game instead of quitting directly to the desktop.

This is a perfect example of how Mythic does a disservice to their customers by not having their own support forums. Instead of getting an answer from Mythic themselves, you get morons who like to chant, "Mine's working fine, it's your crap machine!"  The client is poorly optimized. Does your machine play other recent games properly? Do you meet the system requirements? If you can answer "Yes" to both of these, the problem is with Mythic, not with your machine, no matter what the self-appointed "experts" say.

Can only advice to update all your drivers. Soundcard, Videocard especially have Mythic adviced people to update to latest.

I run the game perfect and have since Beta - Never crashed once during loading or exiting. I run a pretty standard computer with no extreme hardware or old hardware.

I definitely log out and exit the game from there.

Do check all of your Drivers as they can definitly be a problem.  When I did the preview weekend i had some outdated drivers . I download all the new drivers for my system that solved my problems.

But yes it can hang if you exit the game.

CSRs can answer questions through the link on Mythic's page easier than they could on a forum while sorting through the hate and babble.

I would sudgest trying a new instalation. Completely uninstall it, and reinstall it. I have a couple friends that have had probalem with WAR so far, mind u not the ones you are experiencing. However, there is no harm in trying and it may have good results.

i havent had a single problem yet.

Only annoying issue for me is the Que to join, but that i can live with.

Make sure the server you are on is not down for maintenance. They are taking some down today to clone because they are full of players.

Some more information may help others help you with the problem.

1.) Are you having any problems with any other applications, games, graphics, music, etc?

2.) What specs do you have?  Processor? Memory?  (including available slots and stick) Video Card?  Sound?  Motherboard?

3.) What applications boot up with your system?  MSCONFIG start-ups?

4.) Have you contacted the game-maker about the problem?  What was their response?

5.) Have you searched online at the game website and online searched for others who have similar problems?

Something to try is running Advanced WindowCare 2 (I've been using it monthly for 2 years).  It's free, cleans up a lot, and identifes the parts in your PC www.download.com/Advanced-WindowsCare-Personal/3000-2086_4-10407614.html

"Slow down, freeze, crash, and security threats are over. Advanced WindowsCare Personal is a comprehensive PC care utility that takes a one-click approach to help protect, repair, and optimize your computer. It provides an all-in-one and super convenient solution for PC maintenance and protection. All work will be done with 1 click and 1 minute. This fantastic program is available free of charge."

When you've tried EVERYTHING, then I think it'd be fair to point at the game.

OK just found something interesting, either it is the problem or is caused by the problem (iif that makes sense lol)

During this freeze up at the last screen before you actually get to play, I decided to go back to task manager and see whats happening, and, I noticed something interesting in the Task tray...

'Limited Connectivity' was shown along with a yellow backgrounded triangle with a '!' in it, this only ever happens when I try to play WAR, and also only way to reverse it is to restart PC, I did have this problem with EVE online for a while until they cut out a certain route to the servers or something like that, will now also check the ping... ANyone have the server IP?

Also have checked all and I mean every single devices drivers, all up to date, so its not that..... I guess the mystery of finding out just why the game wont work continues...

I have sent a similar message to the through the support form on the WAR website, hopefully something / somebody will enable me to play this game

Turn off that shit windows firewall if its running.

  • G_RavenorG_Ravenor Member Posts: 108

    Firewall turnt off, no effect....

Also from the warhammeralliance FAQ I have updated further drivers whihc I would of thought would have no bearing thus far, but no luck, for those interested the drivers were sound and the network adapter...

Another point if I have two network adapters, should I disable on of them? ie the one not being used?

Still no word from the support team, anyone have that tech number for the UK / Europe??

I have noticed some issues with the whole l.ogging in and out although im just talking about OB as i am on holiday so havent got to play the game since launch but at OB i noticed that if i done a'quick' logout to windows then the next time i log in i would get errors that i still have a character logged in....reboot...same...went to work and cam back it was ok. Also i have noticed that it doesnt show where your charcters are nor goes dirrectly to your current server choice but often showed a blank server choice screen with blanked out buttons at the bottom....after stairing at that for a good few mininutes i randomly clicked on of the blacked out buttons, as you do, (the right one which is often 'cancel' or no) and then i got the real server menu up.

  • G_RavenorG_Ravenor Member Posts: 108

ok is there anyway I can check it is the lack of ram causing the problem without paying out for it?

would the windows mem boost that you can do via usb mem sticks help? I am all for buyig the extra ram but it has never caused me any problems before and I want to be pretty certain that the lack of RAM is the problem before going out and buying it, costing just short of £100

I have a problem where memory doesn't seem to be clearing. Obviously being a new release, there will be many memory leaks.

My problem however isn't with logging in. I closed down my machine after a 4 hour stint and went for food. When I came back I decided to play a different game (planetside). About 5 minutes in I get this war, drum beat music. Not thinking much of it other than, OMG Sony have done an update of some type :). About half hour into playing I then start hearing voice overs, after listening for a while I remember hearing this voice over from an npc in the starting area for dark elves in WAR.

Was kinda freaky considering I'd closed the machine down for over an hour between each game.

ok looking good, checked the site for requirements and yes I do need more ram, going the whole hog for 4GB (internet deal making it cheaper than 2 GB from local store...)... Used cruicials system of scanning your PC to ensure I purchased the correct type....will keep you posted

But just a point, I did have the game working at one point i.e the beginning, is my problem purhaps a combination of low RAM and a likely memory leak in-game?

  • G_RavenorG_Ravenor Member Posts: 108

OK got it working, either something they did in downtime today or my system readyboost is having the desired affect, however performance is slightly poor so will still be getting the RAM upgrade, now I just need to firgure out exactly what class etc to go for
