in the scenarious that I have played nobody ever talked to anyone else,
it was strange but I then understood
there is no reason to chat, no reason to get to know anyone
join a faceless PQ, grind away, nothing to lose, no danger, boooooring
join a faceless "open group", grind away, nothing to lose, no danger, boooring
join a scenariou and run around ... nothing to lose, no danger, booooring

If players don' talk during PQ's (some cases), Scenerios (all cases) they loose. Agreed, WAR needs a but more Risk for the reward - maybe something that needs to be tweaked.
I think the EGO is not to far to find but its not in the game.....
Get in a guild. Make your own.
We had a guild night last night and went killing Lair mobs for their rewards. We only got one and got romped by the other... but damn did I have a blast hanging out with those dudes. Haven't had that since DAoC... (inculding WoW... buncha solo hungry kids screaming for their toys that can't share)
Don't need WAR or any other particular MMO to have fun with friends though, could do it in Hello Kitty Online even, that's not an asset of the game if you need to guild to get it
Guilds give you a place. PQs will be done and over once you leave and those people don't really matter. The guild is another entity that levels also. It gives meaning to the teamwork and some pride. Can you level your guild in Hello Kitty? I think not...
Seriously, join a guild, get the sand outa your vagina and make some friends. Its as easy as typing on the keyboard.
Edit - and seriously wtf is your logic on that last statement. Yeah you don't need a MMO to hang with friends but you're not playing an MMO at that point huh? So now that we're realizing we're going to be playing an MMO, it'd be nice to have some friends around huh? Use some logic before you post ffs.
Let me guess, you also didn't try talking either and are complainign about other people not talking. Maybe they just started and don't know what the heck they are doing? You don't bother to chat when you're tryign to figure things out on your own.
WAR isn't a solo game despite you being able to solo quests. Those who think they will solo and be successful in this game will be miserable.
Guilds have already formed and alliances should be set up soon where communities form. In WAR as in DAOC, you don't talk to a faceless crowd. You talk to people individually and as a group at the guild level and as a crowd at the alliance level. When this happens, relationships are formed. WoW never had these relationship mechanisms. It was a faceless person talking to noone in particular. Or a faceless person talking at someone rather than to someone.
To be part of the community, you, the player are responsible for creating it and participating in it. It's a new game, don't expect people to have insta communities and such.
Most likely everyone is using voice. At least in my Guild everyone is in ventrilo. The scenarios and RvR are fast paced and descicions have to be made very quick. It would be impossible with chat. Join a guild with voice and you will have real fun.
The PvP/RvR is highly competitive in WAR, especially in higher Tiers and without voice there is no chance you can compete.
If you are talking about PQ's, there is no need for chat. The Objectives are visible for everyone and there is not much to coordinate. If everyone plays his class correctly there is no problem. Of cause you get the odd PQ group where the healer thinks he is a DPS. The way PQs are set up is that healers are encouraged to heal as it gives them more points, tanks get points for tanking, etc. It is different to other games, there is no need for extensive chatting.
I talk to people whenever I join a group or scenario, when I talk in a pq group i will get some people talking but not nearly all and I havent had anyone respond in a scenario.... >.<
Oh and I think it was the first post after OP that said "they will loose" or something, I just want to say it is lose not loose. Please understand the meaning of these words. I'm in no way trying to be an ass just saying if you understand what they mean you realise that if you are fighting someone and they win you dont loose....
And if it was just an error in typing I am sorry but there are still people who need to learn you can't loose anything, you lose, loose doesn't even come close to meaning the same thing.
actually you have it backwards. This is how people start. Not how they end up. PQ and especially RvR warbands actually encourge socialisation.
Um, if you're getting smashed in the face by a huge hammer or have fireballs being fired at you, would you be able to stop and speak to the guy next to you who's enduring the same thing?
I THINK NOT!
Geesh, you need to be more realistic sometimes, gawsh.
Well look at it this way.
MMO players usually have a group they play with. Anyone that pre-ordered probably has friends that also pre-ordered. Those groups generally have access to a ventrillo/teamspeak server.
That is how my group works. We all pre-ordered and we talk on vent. Why would would we take time to type out stuff when we can just talk on vent. Now that the game has released and there are people who aren't guilded or part of a gaming group you will start to see more people talking and asking questions.
I do have to agree with this somewhat. I've noticed from beta to now just the start of the game that people have started to begin to talk. I played open beta to rank 20 and heard one person say good luck in a senerio, and I played a lot of senerios because I generally like that part of game, but now it's starting to get a little better. I would just say to give it time. As said before me, when in the middle of a battle it is really hard to stop to type even a few words. Plus people are new and they just want to play and try things out for now. And open partys are not faceless. Those are the times I get to know people even more than the rest because you can stay and do multiple quests together and in between there is time to cool down and talk.
I hate when i pleh mmos with voice chat and old people make me listen to them tell me what to do
There was chatting going on where I was depending on where I was.
PLUS the game went live today. People are just grinding and exploring and playing. I don't want to talk
Old Skool Ultima Online Junky
Bring back the OLD UO so I can play again
the chat box is rubbish plain and simple. Having to write /scenariotell is rediculious in a pvp situation and only when you enter the scenario you might see the small dialog to note that you can use /sc but often i have had people ask me if there is a faster way than /scenariotell.
The right-click for tell to person didnt seem to work and the right-click options for tells didnt have the option for scenario or world/zone chat. Even now i dont know how to talk in zone chat although i would like to offer and ask advice or generally chat, maybe its a noob thing thats fair even but how many other peolple you think are having the same trouble? and i have played mmos for years now.
As for the response if people do know how to chat or use chat: well in all instanced pvp situations in any game i have played them ....AV,Wgs,AB etc in ~Wow not many people communitcated because people generally knew what needed to be done, same with AoC.
I kind of like the fact not many people talk after my experience in AoC and the community constantly telling others to go back to wow or to 'get lost noob' i dont want a repeat of that so as they say....silence is golden.
Well..I never chat much in any MMO, but it doesn't mean I don't communicate. My partner in crime usually sit besides me and we just talk face to face while we play. I only chat when needed. For me MMO's have more or less replaced boardgames and I see it as a social activity which I share with my partner, children and close friends.
Most people still need to get used to the "us" mentality instead othe "me" one that's used in most MMO's. After a while those people will start to realize that there's a lot of benefits when interacting with the others, teamwork mentality needs to be forged (pun intended).
Try no communication in the end game at least you have the option in the early levels to be a part of something in most other games is out of reach till cap level.
Its in the flawed design. WAR is supposed to be ego heaven. You never need to talk, and there are no social hubs. Its a theme park. A very good theme park, but nothing more.
People don't ask questions to get answers - they ask questions to show how smart they are. - Dogbert

Dunno mate, I think thats a bit harsh. I talk to people all the time in game when I'm in a pick up group or a PQ. you just have to be the first to say something. I think what we have here is a group of people who havent played an MMO before. There will be fans of the table top game who are just now dipping their toe into the MMO sea for the first time. I know when I played EQ1 for the first time I was a bit shy and didnt speak to anyone at first but once the ice is broken everything is fine. People are thinking that everyone who is playing this game is as cynical and jaded as we are, not so there are plenty of MMO virgins on this game. Plus when we get to end game and are taking cities communication will be a must, I just wish they had put a comms system in place for voice chat and then everyone is on the same page.
Woot!? They don't talk on your server? I guess its the over exiting that makes is stum... But on my server they talk like hell in scenerios and pq.. even chat with shout expression.. gotta talk to win pvp.. else its just a chicken game!

Lack of chat is my biggest gripe with this game. I kow chat will get much better as the levels get higher and the stakes get higher.
I've made it a habit to say "hi" when I join a new group. Just that one word will wake up a team. Keep in mind that people will ninja their way into your team. There are no obvious indicators to tell you someone joined the group.
Later on leader characters will start barking orders and trying to organize people, and the chat will light up. But right now no one is an expert (or thinks they are) so no one is feeling confidant to talk in scenerios.
lol... ur post seems way to stupid to even comment..
Mabey you should look to yourself, mabey then you can figure why you dont get any social attention in the game ?
Thow away that negative thing you have going, and enjoy
Maybe breaking 'Radio Silence' means Court Martial?
My view on the whole none talking issue is because, not many ppl know each other, not many ppl know much about the game, and plus there isn't a world type chat as i'm aware of so you can only talk to the ppl in your zone, some might not even really speak english!
Communications come in time, people settle down in to the game, people then help others, new people ask questions, and guilds are formed and there you have it a community is born!
type /sc then hit your space bar. You are primed anr ready to chat away inn scenario all day long.
Fungerer som det skal
