If the dvd version gives better graphics than a new beta client download+patched up then my frustration will return with a vengeance! I bought the dvd's, tried to install and the bloody thing kept giving errors, simply refusing to install even the first disc. So I was forced to download the beta and patch it up.
An earlier post in this thread also mentioned clearing the cache as a resolution. You may want to give that a whirl to improve your Beta client. G/L
Cache could be important. Something else I noticed is that before in Scenarios or in RvR with a good bit of people on screen I would start to stutter, or lose a couple frames and since I installed this I have not had it happen at all. It seems like better graphics but at the same time more stable.
It could just be that I installed while they had the 4 hour+ downtime though. Hard to say really.
Deleted the cache, no difference. The graphics are nice, but not as sharp as the screenshots posted earlier, good enough though. Just still annoyed they shipped those stupid dvd's a lot of dvd-drives can't even read without getting errors. (european version btw).
Hmm maybe someone will make an .iso of the dvd's and upload them at some point. Keep an eye on torrentz.com. It isn't pirating because you would have to buy a key anyway. If someone else doesn't do it maybe I will sometime. I know a lot of friends in Europe are having us buy them the package and send the key over. I bet .iso's will be floating around soon.
I'm going to install the full install soon. I will be taking screenshots of the game on low settings before and after, and documenting my FPS in exact situations for a fair comparison.
You know what else I noticed? Lighting is so much nicer now. I mean, the ocean, I went to Norden's Watch and instead of the usual deep blues, I saw the sunlight reflecting off it beautifully. The textures were less blurred, the light off plate was very specular. The guards standing in the night in robes even, had moonlight glinting off the leather of their spauldrons. It is an overall improvement all around. Also, yes, not one hiccup in RVR tonight or Scenarios, its more stable than ever. I've only crashed once in 6 hours.
Oh and those who havnt done so yet, right click your system tray icon for your Nvidia controller and open the control panel, add War to your list of programs for it, and put Anti-Aliasing at 8xs and Anti-scopic Filtering at 16x. Save the changes and load up the best Warhammer of your life!
exactly my settings..it looks wonderfull., only complain are the ctd `'s in altdorf...(capitol)exept this, the game is 100% stable, without any prob, never saw that at release..and i played near all of that sort.
I wish I would have done more comparisons from before to after. It might just be that because it looks smoother I notice how much more immersive the environments are, but it just feels a lot better.
I'm installing to my secondary HD now. I'll leave the beta client installed and take screen shots from both clients to see if there is any difference on the visuals.
Anyone else planning to try this and also having plenty of HD space, alternate between the clients and post your results.
For ME, no difference. I made sure the settings were the same. Loaded the same character and tried to match the zoom and camera angle. I took screen shots and loaded each pair into Paint Shop Pro, one as a layer on top of the other so I could toggle between them. No visual difference.
I looked at the game folders. Almost everything was the same size. The only difference with the Retail install was the inclusion of the opening theatrical cinematic and associated video file.
Now, first, I had been using the beta client downloaded for the Preview Weekend and used through Open Beta. It's possible that for some people with older clients, the asset files may not be identical.
Second, it's possible that some settings some where are not optimal in a beta install and doing the retail install could result in better visuals.
However, no, there are not any DVD only super high res textures like we saw with LotRO.
On the plus side for me, the fresh install on an underused, defragmented secondary internal HD does seem to lave lessened the hitching when the game loads new textures slightly. It also loads up a little quicker.
My beta folder is 9.46 GB, which includes the cache folder and a few screen shots. If yours is a lot smaller, your earlier beta client could possibly be "less complete" in some way.
It's no illusion. The textures are far far sharper than anything ive seen of the game thus far. Crisp, percise and detailed. I amped up my AA and AF as always and that with whatever they did to textures, is making this game more appealing by the instant..
Oh and another thing I did differently this time around, on my lcd monitor, there is a section in settings that says, MagicColor. I set it to Intelligent, which is a balanced blend and makes the gamma highly improved, maybe thats where the gamma changes came from for me. For instance, even those screen shots I posted are more vibrant with that setting on my monitor.

Great info!!!!!! thanks a bunch!!
I too got the pre-order physical game, but never loaded it and used my beta files.

Simple fix. As stated earlier. Just delete the cache folder from the Warhammer beta folder.
