Good day folks,
I'm curious what you have all seen as far as classes go for the "powerful" and the "weak" classes?
I've played 4 classes indepth (to at least level 10, which is where the majority of peoples playing time has been). I'll rank them in PvP and PvE abilities. Strictly group ONLY. No Solo (although the WP can solo very well, as can the Chosen)
1.Chosen - Strong PvP class, as well as PvE, able to take a beating as well as beat. I've had no issues playing this class. I normally hate being the tank, but with the chosen, it's a ball. Destruction has an advantage here in my eyes, as I hate dwarves and elves.. Where is my human tank at??
2. Warrior Priest - Awesome PvE class. Able to take a beating, and deal out some licks. I've seen the WP even for damage/healing in most scenarios (dealing 10k damage and 10K healing). I like playing hybrid classes, and the WP is easily the best I've played.
3. Bright Wizard - Great PvP class, Good PvE class. These are awesome in the Scenarios.. just as long as you have a healer. You WILL be the first target (above healers) because you go down quick. A REAL glass cannon (more like paper cannon). In PvE it's not such an issue. The monsters go down quick enough, so there isn't an issue.. beware of taking on more than one add..
4. Squig herder - Sadly, this is the weakest class I've played. Damage charts are TERRIBLE in scenarios. I feel very squishy (often the first target above healers in scenarios). The squigs are fun, and it's nice to send on of those on a healer while I run away from the DPS.. but overall, I struggle with this class. The knockback is a lot of fun though! (talk about being an asshole! nothing says I"m a dick like sending someone 300 feet into the air.. to fall to their doom). In PvE, I fair a little better. Still very squishy, my melee damage is laughable. Only a ranged fighter. the squig is good for holding aggro, but beware of adds as the squig will go down fast (as will the herder) I'll probably stick with this for a while longer to see if I'll enjoy it (I've always enjoyed ranged classes..)
What classes have you played, and how do you feel they stack up. Also, what classes do you have the most trouble with?

I've really only tried 1 class fully in PvP and PvE. Black Orc
Black Orc - Similar to your experience with Chosen. Very strong in PvE. Probably the best tanking class in any game I've played since master defender jedi in SWG. Mobs can beat on me all day long without making a dent in my hit points. I have a blast in PvP with my orc as well. Doesn't seem to do as much damage as chosen but I'm always the last one standing. Most Chosen like to go with big 2h weapons while orcs wield the shield and a 1h. I'm a big fan of the shield myself. The only class that is a challenge 1vs1 is warrior priest. I fought a WP 1vs1 in RvR for about 10 min until a zealot came along to help. Probably would have gone on at least another 10 min with WP coming out on top because he could keep healing and I'm too low for my silencing ability.
I feel ya on the WP thing..
When I played one, there wasn't any class I was afraid of. I would run up and start attacking. The ability to heal, and dealing a decent amount of damage was good (note: decent not "alot"). And vice versa with the chosen..
Run up.. start beat9ing on people..

Squigs get alot better, especially with mastery lines. As far as me i ve played Marauder, which is a dps maniac. Against a tank not good 1 vs 1, as it should be but anything else i ve met i rip them apart. The key to playing one IMO is switching mutations. WP 1 vs 1 i charge, silence, switch to dps go all out, before switching to silence mutation ability, i have an ability that will make any spell(healing or damage) enemy casts they take damage. So as he s healing he s getting damaged, and boom silince again Then back to damage mutation and finish them off.
I've played the high elf White Lion class, When doing scenarios you wont notice how great their damage is until level 8-11. I can gaurantee you will reach about 20k+ damage most of the time, I average 25k damage total on scenarios, whether I go out and do a suicidal attack or have a healer to back me up I usually end up killing 2 people before I die. When specializing your mastery abilities you should focus on mastery of the huntsmen because your pet is a huge part of your damage.
Only one class as well, a Disciple of Khaine.
I find him to be a great hybrid class, in fact something I have been looking for in most MMO's. He is does quite well in both arena's but essientially "squishy" at times as well. Head to Head with heroes, I drop like a fly, but I am able to take on multiple targets without worry. Overall a good, strong class, but requires some thought and skill (dare I say planning) when you toggles your skills.
Good PvE
Great PvP
Yeah,
When playing my squig herder, I run away from the white lions. They are a melee character, and I'm a ranged, since I only have on slow every 12 seconds (or 10?) and the run in shoot does 41 damage (plus bow + ballistic skill) where was the plink does 71 damage (plus bow plus balistic skill).. so it's either stand there and try to get a few shots off, or run away and run and shoot.. or just run away (I usually just run away, I haven't gotten the slow/run and shoot down yet)

I've heard the herder gets much better as you level and start allocating your points. You get some good abilites to be able to shoot on the run.
Any high level Witchunters out there? I am curious how they do in higher levels. I have a level 15 one and hes a lot of fun to play. I love the executions and I have consistently killed Marauders 3 levels higher than me in one on one fights.
Interesting input and I agree with everything you said, having played all those classes, too.
The other classes I've played are:
Maurader - Great DPS class that does well in both solo and PvP. In PvP, just make sure you have good healers on your side because the Maurader is a bit on the squishy side, but it's expected because of the DPS it can dish out. Very fun melee class, though, and I love my morphing arm o' destruction.
Swordmaster - I don't like the look of the elves (all elves look female from the back and look like David Bowie in the face... even though I like David Bowie, but that's not the point). However, this class is actually a hoot to play and does some damn good DPS using a two-handed sword. I've actually had my highest kill counts in scenarios with this class. He may look like a pansy, but he hits like a defensive lineman. Get two of these and a good healer in a group and watch the carnage.
Shadow Warrior - I couldn't get into this class. I'm usually a fan of hybrid classes, but there is something that just doesn't sit well with me with this class. I see a ton of this class running around, so obviously I'm in the minority, but for me it seems that neither the ranged DPS or the melee DPS is very good. I'm guessing there are things that can make one or the other stand out in the upper levels, but I didn't have the patience or desire to find out. I like to be good at one or the other off the bat, not mediocre at both.
Magus - I was disappointed in this class. Having played a Bright Wizard, I thought the Magus would be a good counter, but it's not from what I've seen. It's still a "paper" cannon, but it doesn't seem to have anywhere near the DPS of the Bright Wizard. Maybe it's more of a DOT class at higher levels, I don't know, but I felt powerful as a Bright Wizard on the get-go, but not with the Magus. The Magus has been the biggest disappointment for me so far. If a class doesn't grab me in the first couple of levels, then I feel there might be something wrong with that class (this is assuming it's a class I'm interested in, anyway).
Black Orc - This is my main and favorite class. I just have a soft spot for orcs. I actually think that Chosen are better DPS tanks, especially with their auras, but the brutality of the orc just fits my play style to a tee. Plus I think the Black Orc actually is a better pure tank when using a board and sword over the Chosen, but that could just be a bias on my part because of my fondness of the big, green goofballs.
So far my favorite classes in order have been:
Black Orc
Chosen
Maurader
Bright Wizard
Swordmaster
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
Ya Magus is an Engineers counterpart. It won t do the dps of a bright wiz, but wait till keep takes and a bunch of them defending, especially at 20+. They ll become your bane of existance:)
My first toon was a squiggy (squigglygiggly) and it was my intention , for once in my MMO life, to stick with 1 charcter. It didn't happen, I felt he was fun but way to squishy, and reading some forums confirmed my concerns.
PvE was starting to get dicey, more than 1 could be very tricky. The spiked squig is bugged, squigs are bugged and tend to vanish only to come back later. Run 'n' shoot was not so hot, and the armoured squig you get inside had little use, from my experience with it so far. I will return to him later at some point.
I have tried a Sorcerer, which is pretty good fun and quite powerful, but again very squishy ( as they should be ). SW's range is long and it's annoying getting peppered with damned arrows!
At lower lvls, the classes I have played seem to have a bit of a tough time out dps'ing the healing classes, maybe I just suck .
I disagree with your statement that you played 4 classes indepth to at least level 10... Playing to level 10 is not considered in depth. You may have gotten a taste, but by far not in depth. Get up to 20 or even 30 and you can call it in depth.
Squigs are.. ok. In RvR they are tough to take down and do good damage, and the herder doesn't have to be close to have it attack the healer or engineer (what I play currently).
I played a herder in beta and yeah, pets were bugged and they were squishy... very squishy.. but shot on the run is very very useful.
I really don't care that you think I played 4 classes indept to level ten. I didn't say I played them to level 40. I'm sorry you disagree with my statement. Like I said. Most people have played 1-10. This is my experience if they are looking to try another class.
Thanks for the added input on the black orc.
I was really into the maurder reading about it. I love the changing of the arm. I played the DoK, and they are a lot of fun. Probably on par with the WP, I didn't put that in my original post because I didn't play it to at least level 10.
The Sorcerer is the counter to the BW, and they hit HARD (at least in the Tier 2 scenario.. 700+ a shot it seems). I liked the Magus when I played it (to level 6 or so) but I got bored, same with the engineer.
I tried the witch hunter. Seemed fun, and the typical Melee DPS type class.
I'm not a fan of the pure healing classes. While Im all for healing, they are a pain to level (I guess You have to just stick to scenarios..) It seems the shaman is better than the archmage though..

A paper cannon that's always on fire.
I've tried one class and I am still playing that class.
Archmage- The Archmage as you well know, is the Healer for the High Elves, but also doubles as the Mage. If you are a low level Healer in your PvP bracket, you're going to die alot, because you compete with Bright Wizards as the person first targeted and killed. However, if you are a higher level Archmage for your bracket, the enemy usually seals their doom by attacking you first. The Archmage is a compitent Healer and can keep himself healed untill the tank and dps comes to bail you out. However, you can take no more than 1-2 adds before you drop like a rock. As I said, you double as a DPS Mage and can dish out some nice Direct Damage, DoT, and Debuffs. I also have one group wide buff at level 10 and the ability to resurrect. I usually place near the top for Damage and Healing in my scenarios, and I don't die much either. I don't ever get solo kills, since my damage isn't fast enough to kill before their friends come and help and I don't usually top the charts for Death Blows either, probably because I am healing more. It is important to point out that an Archmage is most useful healing in scenarios, because when you are healing the right target, you both will come out alive and can take on many more people. Just keep your distance or the enemy will come for your head quickly. If you are just DPSing or Healing very little, you might be able to take on 1 person before the tank and you die. I learned this through experience, so take it for what it's worth.
In PvE, I am almost Godly, because I rarely die, much less get below 75% health. My damage is uber enough to drop enemies quickly, without taking much damage, which is good, since my Action Points are pretty much spent after doing so. However, my Action Points regain fast enough that I have a full bar before I target the next enemy.

Wow... well thanks for that.
It is like playing City of Heroes or any other game out there... You play till level 5, or even 10, you aren't going to be able to say x class or y build is weak or strong until you raise it up at least halfway.
To say in depth,,, well, from what it looks like is that you played those classes in a RvR setting till around level 10. Then gave a yeah or nay on em.
You didn't even raise your abilities yet and you are going to condemn classes?
Funny.

to respond to the archmage..
I've always been a fan of mages (hence the name!), however, I had a hell of a time getting into the archmage (I think that it's mostly due to the elf thing.. the dudes look like chicks, and the chicks are hot!)
I may have to give it another try (as I do like healing. Much more challanging than being a tank).
However, the WP is more my playstyle after being able to be in the thick of combat (although they are definitly not a team healer..)

Warrior Priest to level 16 - Really liking this class so far. Survivability in Tier 2 scenarios goes down a little, but is still good. Damage output is a little weak for my tastes, but still decent.
At level 16 I came upon a level 14 zealot 1v1 and could not come close to killing him, although he barely scratched me too. At 2 levels above him, I should have been able to do more damage than I did with a 27dps weapon. On the plus side of that encounter, a marauder came to help him out and also couldn't do much damage to me, although I was a few levels higher than him too. When the level 19 chosen headed my way too, I figured I better leave that party. I bet I could have killed the level 19 chosen 1v1 given enough time though. It just would have taken a while.
Shadow Warrior to level 10 - I set my key bindings up so I could kite really well and I was psyched when in the elf T1 scenarios I could get like 50-60 kills with high damage output and usually only die 2-4 times (levels 7-9). I'd usually die to witch elves who would appear behind me, but even then I could get away sometimes by getting just far enough away and snaring them (didn't have the aoe snare at the time).
The big letdown came when I went over to the Empire scenario. I got about 1/3 of the kills and died 33% more. I realized it was because there were very few if any tanks in the elf scenarios and the Empire scenarios were full of them. And also the healers were either more competent or they had more time because it took longer to kill the tanks (strongly suspect the 2nd choice).
I absolutely love the knockback morale ability. It's so much fun hitting people that have full health with 1 shot and knocking them over a cliff and they die. So disappointing when they just barely don't go over the cliff though. So technically there can be 1-shot kills in WAR on occasion.
Ironbreaker to level 9 - Despite being a dwarf, I really like this class for it's survivability and pretty good damage output. The shield knockdown is fun. I don't think I could use a 2handed weapon because I'd miss that knockdown too much. Kind of weird that a lot of the best damage abilities are DOTs.
I haven't tested it much, but I can't seem to block people from moving via collision detection with this class. Is this some kind of weird Mythic humor thing because they figure that people can just jump over dwarves, a bug, or my imagination? Whatever it is, I want a human tank.
IMHO...Squiq herder is the hardest class to play you have to be pretty good to play it...because as a Witch Hunter most of the time I pwn squiq herder...BUT sometime I find someone who knows how to play the squiq herder and he gives me HELL OF A JOB...I tell you

I also love the knockback. Really cool ability (got a little pissed when I got knocked back into the water and couldn't move and had to /stuck)
I don't really like the Dark elf/high elf pairing. It takes 15 minutes because of how the scenario machanic works.. I've never seen it less than that (as anyone seen anyone else hit 500 on this map?)

I play on Averhiem, and usually one of us gets to 500 before the time runs out. But there are times we spend the entire 15min fighting and only getting up to 200 max.

all the time, takes more tactics to win then the other two T1 Scenarios imo. with even just 2 to 3 people working together with the right tactics you can take the flag on the other side and build up points to end the map well before 15 min timer is up.

What side? Im on the same server but im order. Swordmaster.]
And the Dark Elf/High Elf T1 scenario is a joke. I hate it. If Order (my side) isnt loosing, then its just a boring 15 minute camp fest.
T2 scenario is way more fun.
the elves scenario is much more fine tactics than brutal mayhem. Just killing enemies is not gonna make you win.
In this scenario you have to remember the goal is getting the flag and it just take a guy 5 seconds to cap a flag, so beware that.
Also in my server it is rare to get to 500, but since I realized how the thing went, I have been vpersonally getting quite a few flags leading the counts up.
On another topic, of course there are more tanks in the empire scenario on the destruction side! Dark elf do NOT have a tank
Ironbreaker and Collision detection: It works exactly like every other dude. I have been able to block people from advancing just putting me small self in front of them. Of course smashing me shield on their teeth works even better than just standing there...
It is amazing what a tank and an healer can do, especially when you reach level 10. Tank get the guard ability, has taunt, the healer has detaunt... so if they concentrate on the healer, they are doing 25% damage to the healer and 25% to the tank... and they will never be able to kill either.
I find the Ironbreaker to be the best tank I have tried so far (got Swordmaster to 11, black orc to 6 and chosen to just 2), get grudge to 100 and then you start doing some incredible damage. As many people still have not learned to NOT bash on the healers, I get grudge to 100 really fast when I place my oath friend on a random healer (or my wife if we are playing together) and then wammo! suddenly this little dwarf is doing some super dps.
As for Warrior Priests, I do not lke the fact all their heals are HOTs. Yes, one of them has a very tiny insta part, but it even take time to cast! this compared to, say, runepriest that has a HOT and an insta heal, both taking no time to cast.
There is a real problem with lacking tanks in the tier 1 Empire pairing. Often I would find myself alone in middle of the enemy cause my realm mate decided to all stay back, even the witch hunters and the warrior priest... so Destruction get the Fortress while every Order player is on the bridge doing exactly what I dunno. And then I usually die or am forced to retreat.
