    You just need a break.

It's likely you'll come back and remember why you played the game for 4 years in the first place.

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

I know how ya feel, now any mmo that I pick up, im like bored with it in a month. So now the 360 keeps me busy during my free time

post like this are so funny to me.  "After playing for 4 years", i never played a game for 4 months before i got bored with it. if you played the game for 4 years it must have been one hell of a game. maybe it's time to move on.

  • synnsynn Member UncommonPosts: 563

i played wow for just under 3 years before i finally quit for good. The game itself is fine but it required too much time raiding or gear farming to be a contender in pvp. I had high hopes that they would give pvpers the same love they showed to its raiders since there is a good number of pvpers in the game. sadly they took 4 years to implement real pvp and looking at the videos it still looks kind of silly. oh well to each his/her own. If this type of pvp floats your oat then by all means continue playing the game.

For those that have tried WAR...give it till T2 where keep sieges come into play and check out the BGs from the different areas. I enjoyed T1 scenarios and T2 scenarios is alot better plus being able to hop in and find a group for keep sieges is awesome. The game still needs to squash some of the bugs but overall I think its on par or better then most games when they were initially launched.

Plus some of the stuff that War is adding, Blizzard is offsetting a bit with changes of their own in the expansion which makes it an even tougher switch.  Achievements are Blizzard's answer to the ToK, etc.
There's nothing wrong with War, but I still don't think it's better than WoW.  Now if you are bored with WoW especially the PvP side, then War might be a great for you, but if you are enjoying WoW, I see no particular reason to switch at the moment.

This is the ultimate conclusion I've come to, as well.  Admittedly, I only played into tier 2.  I finished the first chapter of a couple of the two race stories (don't know what to call them), but I ran all around doing quests, PQs and scenarios everywhere that I could on my shaman.  I didn't play QUITE so far with my archmage.  I do like those two classes the most of the 5 I played.  The Disciple of Khaine was pretty cool too.  (Can you tell I like healer and hybrid healer classes?)

I loved, loved, loved the Tome of Knowledge and all of it's unlocks and lore and titles.  I think the Tome and public quests were my favorite thing, BUT.....everything else you said, I also felt true, for me.

As I've repeatedly said, Warhammer, for ME, just lacks some whimsical sense of wonder and for some reason, it just lacks immersiveness to me.  Someone in some other post said it was like CS, and when I read that....it explained pretty well how the game FELT to me....like Counterstrike wrapped in an MMO wrapper.  I felt like I was simply playing a game, with other people who were playing a game for the sole purpose of fighting each other.  Not much chat going on....it just felt "meh."  Now, for people who are just generally pretty sick of the MMO genre.....they might like that.  For me, I felt like all of the light, fun, funny, joyous sense of wonderment had been sucked out of my favorite genre. :(

Fifty dollars to try it.  Money wasted?  I don't know.  I wish I had waited for a free trial.   The game definitely isn't BAD, it's good, it's just, for ME....not great.

I'm not sure if I'll dabble around with it a bit more this month, but I won't be subscribing.  I have plenty of other games to play that are still pretty enjoyable to me.

Wow, for me, has been a lot of fun but it could have been so much more, with all the resources at their disposal, blizzard has dropped the ball. I guess when you are working wow’s replacement, you don’t care what happens to wow, as you hope they will all jump ship.
Lich king will be the last major X-pac for wow, so I won’t tell people they should not play, as many still love the game, but me, I guess I just wanted that little bit more, and it never came.

I see you in a month or less in wow ofc...sometimes you need to go play other games to realise wow is not perfect..but its still the most fun and polished game ever made...

    Obvious troll is obvious.

    1.  You spent too much time raiding for pvp gear?   Good luck trying to pvp in nearly ANY pve gear.   PVP gear from BG's and Arena is far superiour for pvping than anything you can get from even the highest raid.  Some classes 'may' be able to use 1 or 2 pieces of pve gear to pvp with, but for the most part you get all the best pvp gear by pvping.

    2. PVP in Wraith looks silly?   Lake Wintergrasp has everything that Warhammer does as far as seiging.  But it has the following things that Warhammer does not    1.  Moveable seige weapons - In wow, you actually control the seige, not run up and press buttons on the ground to activate stuff.  2.  Flying combat, both bombers and jet fighters.   3. destructable walls and buildings that respond to your attacks.    Warhammer was an improvement to TBC pvp mechanisms, but Wraith pvp totally blows away Warhammer pvp.

    3.  Warhammer BG's.   Once again.. warhammer copies the bad part of WOW.   Most of the War Scenarios are like WSG and AB played on a much smaller map.   Wraiths new Normandy bg is amazing and the whole capture mechanism is more complicated than even warhammers open world seiging.

If you are comparing Warhammer to WOW that way it was back before BC, then you can say Warhammer is  a step forward.  But if you are deciding today to play a game, WOW simply has way more interesting pvp options.

yeah and it only took a couple years to implement this gear. When arena first came out the best arena teams were decked out in high lvl raid gear and they had to grind for the points to purchase the arena stuff. Things may have changed and maybe they made it easy to get pvp gear now though.

yep, silly imo. I seen the videos and it looks like a dumbed down version of battlefield. The destructable walls is an old idea and was used in daoc and shadowbane.

    3.  Warhammer BG's.   Once again.. warhammer copies the bad part of WOW.   Most of the War Scenarios are like WSG and AB played on a much smaller map.   Wraiths new Normandy bg is amazing and the whole capture mechanism is more complicated than even warhammers open world seiging.

wtf are you talking about? WAR has about 20+ scenarios and the mechanics. Most of them are not like WSG and AB. they use points system but its not all about capturing flags or holding the resources. If you played past T1 you might know this though.

If you are comparing Warhammer to WOW that way it was back before BC, then you can say Warhammer is  a step forward.  But if you are deciding today to play a game, WOW simply has way more interesting pvp options.

Umm..where did i compare WAR to WoW? reading is fundamental!!! I wrote that part about WAR because on this thread I noticed someone talkign about T1 WAR stuff.

heres something for you to flame me about that pertains to wow/blizzard...

    -alot of recycled content

-borrowed ideas because blizz lacks the imagination to come up with stuff on their own.

-unable to decide how to implement pvp so they throw out a few different systems and scrapped one all together

-thinks only deep pocket developers can be a contender

-class balance is focused primarily on raids

    - to many addons that make this a "MMORPG for Dummies" type of thing. Heck some guilds make ceratin raid addons mandatory =/

-blizz doesn't care about gold buyers considering that big stint with a well known EU gold that admits to purchasing gold to fund their hardcore raid style.

-game has become a huge grind...reputation, raid gear, farming gear, pvp gear etc...

-4 years to come out with actual pvp content

-4 years to come out with only 1 hero class which anyone can make as long as they have a character that meets the lvl requirement.

-3 years for a guild bank

    ..should I continue?

I also cancelled my wow account, i had high hopes for war but i will wait few weeks buying it to see if it turns into a AOC.

right now i am installing Civilization IV ...... nothing in the market worth playing right now

Now that is impossible... You can't turn rehashed content into a novel gaming system.

I agree i am also planning on leaving WoW i would have much rather they stuck with the game from 1.12 days and not released TBC because after that the game just seems to get dull. I would rather do 40 man raids with a lesser chance of getting gear then do a 10-25 man and get my gear faster. They changed the PvP which really made me want to quit. So in terms of WotLK i have decided recently to not even bother trying it to see if i like it because i am just tired of Blizzard and them messing up a game that use to be great and enjoyable.

I was going to wait til WoTLK but not enough new things there to really interest me.

One new class,  no new races or anything else really to interest me. meh.

Tonight I cancelled my two subscriptions just like the OP.

This was no easy task, no other game really impressed me like Warcraft until recently.

I was inspired by Warhammer. They got PVP right, they got all the rewards. All the little things they give you, from custom titles to trophies and unlocks. You could run around just trying to get more tome entries.

I see so much potential in Warhammer, and personally if you say "not immersive", I have to ask, have you walked around Altdorf?

now log into see Stormwind and compare.

Stormwind, I used to think was so amazing compared to some of the hubs from DAOC or Everquest.

Every little nook and cranny of Altdorf is filled with something. You got these people in wooden stocks being busted by Witch Hunters and all this neat 14th century era stuff

Get to the inevitable city and just watch some hapless victim pleading for their life, and walk around there right before bed time. Tell me you don't dream crazy dreams.

WoTLK, too little, too late. The devs were just too stingy/putting too many eggs in one basket with this death knight thing. I can play a Chosen or a Marauder in Warhammer and feel like a real baddass right off the bat. I can go do open RVR without waiting for end content through a grind. I can experience PvP almost all the time without the constant ganking and griefing as I work my way up. All the fun, less of the hassle.

Servers too full? They open up more and copy my character over there so I can play there or stay where I am.

    WoW, I'll miss you.

why would the give anything away free when they can keep selling crap in game and thru trading cards? wow makes money all the way around because ppl are stupid enough to keep buying into it and playing a gear based peice of crap in crappy gear.

I agree with the civ 4 comment, lich king and the ensurance of never getting decent gear to be competitive has killed my desire to play a mmo ever again.

why bother with a graphics update the main sucess of wow was the fact that it can run on the crappiest of systems even a generic 32mb graphics card can run the game. thats whats makes it so easy to play and so sucessful. appealing to the masses.

war's graphics are abit better but not too high and it can still run on lower performance machines. its all business. get the biggest share of the market as possible.

No offense taken, but I am giving it a proper chance.  I've been playing the open beta for the last 2 days.  I've only got 2 characters to around level 7, but still I think I have a pretty good handle on the game.  I'm sure that there's still a lot of content to get to, but I don't really think it will be significantly different from what I've been doing so far other than maybe the RvR stuff.  I've only scratched the surface on professions, I'd like to venture into that some.  I also need to see Tier 2 RvR which everyone seems to be saying I need to get to.  I'm getting there.

I've been in the same state for the last 4 years.  When someone comes out with something better, I'll be first in line to purchase it.  Until then I'll stick with what I know works.  I've tried City of Heroes/Villians,  LoTRO, Tabula Rasa, Guild Wars and now War.  All of them have been different from WoW, but none of them have been better than WoW.  I want better before I switch, not just different.

    { Mod Delete }

Actually I've been playing the beta for 5 days straight and I'm probably going to buy the game.  Yeah, that's right I'm probably going to purchase Warhammer.

Now that doesn't mean I'm giving up on WoW.  I'm going to be buying the expansion, but this will be a nice diversion until WoTLK is released.  Of all the post WoW MMO's I've played, this one is the best.

Sorry to reply to my own post, but I've changed my mind about purchasing War again.  Seeing as how WoTLK is now scheduled to release Nov 13 and the player test realm has been opened up to try some of the new stuff being implemented, I think I'll wait for the expansion.  I have enjoyed some of my time in the War open beta, but I've also found some things annoying and troublesome.  I still think it will do at least as well as LoTRO has done, but don't think it will do much better.  It's the best of the MMO's that have been released since WoW, but as long as WoW keeps upgrading themselves to match what the competition is doing, I don't see any change in the near future in the MMO fantasy genre.  Something special is going to have to come along to changes things and I still haven't seen it.

Well I changed my mind again, I know I keep going back and forth.  What can I say?  On Saturday when I couldn't get into the game, I decided to go purchase it.  Haven't been playing as much as I'd like to, but I'm still progressing.  I've now got a level 14 Shadow Warrior and have played in the both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 scenario's.  I'm having a hard time getting into the RvR because I don't know anyone in the game.  None of the people that I played WoW with have come to War with me.  I did get into a fairly large guild so I'm trying to find some people to get into the RvR with.

Nothing has really changed in my opinion about the game.  It has some nice features and a few new ideas that could have been implemented better in my opinion.  The PQ's are great, but could have better if they would have made the rewards better and made the influence either harder to come by or more required for the PQ's.  I find myself bypassing some PQ's because I already have all the influence I need for a chapter.  And while PQ's are great when there are people around, they are frustrating when you alone.  You can usually do the first part of a PQ by yourself, but once it gets to stage 2, you're gonna need a group, but if no one is around to help, because it's timed, it's gonna reset back to stage 1.  The influence rewards are pretty worthless except for the very last one and even that one is only mildly worth it.  The rewards you get for completing the 3rd stage of a PQ and being lucky enough to get a bag are also similarly underwhelming.  There were times I skipped taking anything and just chose to take the silver reward, that's pretty lame.

The Tome of Knowledge is a nice idea, but it doesn't seem to be working as advertised.  I haven't seen a single quest that was partially completed when I accepted it despite the fact that I go around killing at least one of just about everything I see just to see if later I'll already have got a start on a quest.

The game still needs a lot of polish.  Granted that I'm comparing it to a game that has had 4 years to polish itself, but unfortunately that's the reality that Warhammer is dealing with.  It's not competing with WoW at launch, it's competing with WoW now and in the future (WoTLK).  At this point, I don't see it winning over many WoW players.

nothing in a EA game will work as advertised, if you plan on playing ea's force fed crap, then throw everything you read out the window and expect the worst.
