Better think up a few more in more of the fantasy genre...I hear the name filter was implemented in one of the recent patches. I dont think "Scarface" or J-Monster" will make it.
If you havent heard about the naming policy its here:
For open beta, I plan to try a character that I'm not already planning for release. In the stress test, I decided that two of the characters I had needed to be recreated when release got here...so there's no real point in making them for the open beta. That would mean I'd go through the starting areas for those characters about 3 times.
I'm really really choosy when it comes to naming my characters. I take a long time to choose something that suits the character's race and class and fits well within the game world. So far, of the two I plan on release, I have one -maybe- decided.
For the open beta, I'll probably just do what I did for the stress test - name any characters I make some variation on "moukin" (ie: moukyn, moukinn, mokyn, etc)
Im thinking of using anime characters name, well only couple of them or few...
but would this be going against the name law here?
Real World References
This category includes both clear and masked names which:
Are references to very well known people, characters, places, or things Examples: "Britneyspears", "Austinpowers", "Mcdonald's", "Georgewashington", "Newyork"
If a player is found to have such a name, he/she will:
Be informed that the name is improper and be prompted to select a new name

You and a gazillion other people. For the love of god make up something instead of using an anime name. Sorry, just me coming from Ragnarok Online where every other (at the very least)character name is from an anime series.

I think its my free choice of watever I want to do.
He's just suggesting a little more creativity in choosing a name. I tend to agree with him. Anime names just don't suit the Warcraft universe.
Out of curiosity, what anime are you wanting to pick your name from? You don't have to say what name specifically.
Even if the GMs don't recognize the reference, it's quite possible that many players could. If it slips past the GMs that doesn't mean that it will slip past the other players.
There's also the part of the naming policy that includes trademarked names or copyrighted names. I would assume that a lot of character names from movies and anime would fit this category.
Like I said, it's not just a matter of whether it's familiar to them. If it's familiar to other players as an anime reference, it probably won't be accepted.
Every MMO i've played, there has always been a character that exists with that.
Anyways, on the stress test i suprisingly (I expected it to be taken) got the name Azeroth. My hopes of getting it in open beta or at release are low, so I will probably go with Rathma as a plan B.

It's unlikely that they would let anyone keep such a well known reference to the Warcraft games themselves. That would be like me trying to name myself Illidan or Kalimdor or something. Just not gonna fly.

(plz dont take this the wrong way, Im just trying to show my oppions. )

Here them means the GM's right? being familiar to other players why would it bother them? I mean some ppl might be bothered but its not their business right?
If Blizzard wants this polcy to work why dont they draw a deadline.
from wat I read from a thread or posts some names are rejected and some names arent... would a lot of you get angry if you name gets rejected and your friends dont? even tho they are using a same type of name?
I won't have a problem with any names of mine being rejected because I always create my own names and they fit well within the world.
Blizzard doesn't want players taking names from things like anime because:
- the names themselves don't fit in their world and they're trying to create a world that you immerse yourself in and become a part of
- they are trying to cover their butts when it comes to trademarked names and highly known names so they don't get in trouble
To expand further on the first point: They're trying to make this a world that everyone can enjoy. A lot of players that really want to immerse themselves into the world and become a part of it. This is difficult to do if you're running around and you see a player named BritneySpears or InuYasha. The allowance of names like this has really made some games seem like crap to me. I'm highly unlikely to party with someone named like that.
For those players that aren't all that creative with names, they'll have a random name generator. Is it really going to affect a player's gaming experience if they cant' have the name BritneySpears? Not really. But it affects a lot of players experience if the DO have to see that name running around.
They've created this game, and they want an especially rich and immersive world. If I did somehow create a name that was against the policy or a GM deemed to be inappropriate, I would let them change it and then move on. The game itself is far more important to me than whether or not I can name myself InuYasha-san or whatever.

I usually use Saranth, Ikoo, Brokenlizard or a variation of one I get from the name generator.
Is there a random name generator in WoW?

Not really, the policy seems to be pretty restrictive. One, unknown to me Anime name, was rejected for being too well known: link.
Im sry for saying that, and I did read the policy and the thread.
So are they saying no anime names at all?? or are they saying its ok if its not familiar to them?
Thats wat Im asking.
and If they are saying its ok for unfamiliarity where's the deadline?
Im a bit confused, so...
PS: to tell you the truth using anime names were my small part of joy playing MMO's if any of you can understand.

Ya, makes it hard to know.
They almost certainly wanted it somewhat vague so they can use their own discretion on a case-by-case basis.
I'd use whatever name you like that isn't a clear violation: a rename shouldn't be a character killer if the worst happens.
WHAT???.....
